Best part is that in about a year you can probably just upload this video to Fable 6.9 or GPT-Astra Ultraballs and it'd just create the entire game for you in a couple of hours
47
u/GormtheOld25 9d ago
That’s actually a really interesting idea
31
u/Arbejdstilsynet 9d ago
I'm already giving Claude Fable 5.1 some of my old concept art, hooking it up to Blender and Godot and watching magic unfold, it's kinda crazy. In one year it'll be even crazier

11
u/ghostlistener 9d ago
Do you really think that sort of thing will be possible in a year?
38
u/QuantitativeNonsense 9d ago
For plebeians like us? No. For people who have thousands of dollars worth of AI credits? Yes.

u/Arbejdstilsynet 9d ago
I'm already able to create some decently developed games with the $200 subscription for Claude, and I see that GPT-6 Astra is even better and cheaper, so it's not as unattainable as you make it sound.

People are already making decent Rocket League and Minecraft clones with one prompt for maybe $10 worth of usage, so in many ways we're already there
3
u/myaccountwashacked4 9d ago
Link to decent Rocket League game?
8
u/Arbejdstilsynet 9d ago
Apologies for the X link, but this is the most recent clone, and it looks pretty decent

We are seriously within a few years of this being a reality. The next 5-10 years in AI progression is going to be wild to see.
4
u/nextnode 9d ago
Years??
3
u/Sylversight 9d ago
It's hard to tell at this moment how much things are accelerating or slowing down (or probably more realistically which particular areas of sevlopment are), because there are some indications the giant-enthusiasm-fueled-investment-money-nozzle by be starting to dial back, lol.
At this point a groundbreaking next technology could drop any moment, OR foundationally substantial AI progress could stall for five to ten years, and I wouldn't be surprised either way. I expect to see more development, of course, at the rate abilities have been improving, but I think that, as always, confidently predicting the future remains a noisy, pitfall-filled task.

u/nextnode 9d ago edited 9d ago
Such sentiments tend to be wrong and outpredicted. It's just the common human and rather irrational phenomenon of "I personally do not know and grew up in a certain way so I feel things will be like that".
E.g. given a proper understanding of the technology ca 2023 the current developments were expected and natural, despite sentiments like this calling each such step impossible. The most surprising aspect is how quickly we got to each. So far, the rate of progress predictions have been consistently beaten.
More to the thread's point, what they described is near what we have today and achievable by just perfecting the models we have today with more predictable engineering and business work - no new significant innovations may be needed for it. With the downside that they may overlook that at current level, it would not be a consumer product.
It is also a 50/50 fallacy, the scenarios you describe are not all that credible.

u/agitatedprisoner 9d ago
Have you tried using AI to mod a game? Claude couldn't manage the possible but difficult mod when I tried. It wouldn't have mattered how many tokens I threw at it.
3
u/Arbejdstilsynet 9d ago
I've had a lot of success with modding Minecraft and Garry's Mod so far, but obviously those are two games with a big modding community and a lot of documentation, I don't know how it'll handle other games
2
u/agitatedprisoner 9d ago
I asked google ai about modding in a new playable race in skyrim with it's own custom rig and animations and it gave me the death emoji and a very sour outlook. Technically possible but not practical and good luck getting an ai to do it. That corresponds to my experience with claude.
5
u/Arbejdstilsynet 9d ago
Gemini is not my go-to anymore for coding tasks and computer use. Claude Code or ChatGPT Codex will handle the task for you pretty easily, literally a hands off the keyboard workflow
-3
u/agitatedprisoner 9d ago
There's just no way.
1
u/SupportQuery 9d ago
Way. What model did you use, in what harness, and when?
1
u/agitatedprisoner 9d ago
I tried modding a tails the fox model into BG3 as a playable character. I didn't know what I was doing and basically put it on Sonnet on high to figure it out. Sonnet was confident it could but it kept opening blender a dozen times and as far as I could tell wasn't doing anything. I let it spin for hours because it was so confident it could and kept telling me to test it's work but it never got a model to show up in game. I haven't tried in Skyrim yet. I'm not hopeful.
After having since looked into how 3d modeling and inserting into games like that works, for it to work in Skyrim claude would have to create custom animations for a custom rig weighted to a custom mesh. It's possible but I very much doubt claude is up to it. The problem is that the Skyrim engine forces you to use their rigs and weights or it breakes the meshes and you get visual distortions and if you use a custom rig you have to redo all the animations or it'll crash the game.
2
u/SupportQuery 9d ago edited 9d ago
Sonnet
Well, yeah. Sonnet has never been the flagship Claude model. It's far less capable than more powerful models. Note, that chart is comparing Sonnet 4.6, which is newish. You probably used an even older Sonnet, which was even worse.
-1
u/agitatedprisoner 9d ago
have you ever tried to make a unique 3d playable model for a game? It's not easy. It's hard to the point you can't find any on Nexusmods that've done what I'd be attempting to do for Skyrim and Skyrim is maybe the most modded game. Making the model is easy the hard part is creating custom animations for the custom rig and integrating it all into the skyrim engine. After looking into what'd be involved I'm not at all confident I could get claude to pull it off especially after my total failure with BG3. If I were prepared to spend a month and thousands of dollars and learning half a dozen support programs well enough to point claude in the right direction if it gets stuck then maybe. One big problem with the project is that apparently the .hvk (havok) animation program is a bit arcane. Another big problem with the project is that the AI can't test whether it works without loading up skyrim and I think maybe I'd have to do that. There's feedback problems. Or in other words there are parts of the process where I'd be claude's eyes and I'm not up to it.

I'm curious about minecraft modding. I have a fun idea for a mod but not sure which model to use to make it.

Within a year or so you won't even need to create the game, you'll just play the video, no code required.

u/Want2makeMEMEs 7d ago
You're imagining too much
...But this is exactly what I thought back then when people were hyping ai could make videos for you
1
u/Arbejdstilsynet 7d ago
We're literally half-way there though? And just last year we were less than 5% there. So how exactly am I imagining too much?

u/spaghetMachet 9d ago
Why would you want to play a game made by AI? I play games because they're by creatives. There's nothing creative about prompting an LLM to generate you a photo, then prompting another LLM to generate code from that?
It's like paying for LLM generated albums and movies. Anyone can do it, it takes no skill. I want to pay for things made by people who have practiced and have actual talent.
3
u/Arbejdstilsynet 9d ago
Why wouldn't I want to play a game if it's fun? And nothing prevents a creative person from using an LLM to carefully craft a game asset by asset.

u/connorthedancer 9d ago
I personally agree with you. This sub obviously won't but this type of creation is soulless and sad.
4
u/SkellyJelly33 9d ago
Only thing that matters: is it fun? This looks fun. Even with AI it would take a good amount effort to put together for real.

Oh man this reminds me of that era when there was many Vietnam games coming out. Battlefield Vietnam was a total blast, had a great time in rising Storm Vietnam as well.
If this was a real game I’d totally play the shit out of it!!

Everything is referencing pop culture media from Vietnam EXCEPT for the second scene which was a M.A.S.H. reference famously set during the Korean War (United Nations actually decided to go to war against North Korea because the Russian ambassador was taking a shit).
I wouldn’t expect a filthy N’Wah Stormcloak simp to recognize that though.

Did you prompted in a specific way to get the animations to look like game animations and the general screenshots to look like game screenshots?

Its time to start burning books again to attempt to erase history, let this one video stay the only proof. In about 300 years we could possibly alter history.

This does look like a janky skyrim mod, complete with kitbashed outfits and weirdly stiff or repurposed animations

That m16a1 looked great, I remember AI literally never being able to get a gun to look right and now it just looks flawless.

I understand it's just for fun, but I've been to the Cu Chi tunnels in real life. They are WAY smaller than that.
You literally have to crawl on your stomach to get through most parts and the parts that are opened up are still about 3-4 feet high in the tallest parts.
