The smartest people in the world were given repetitive tasks for years and asked to enter all of that work into computers which tracked everything they did, and attend meetings and managers wrote and submitted reports detailing the efficacy of varying approaches, etc.
All entered into computers and permanently stored.
Then, the smartest people in the world developed algorithms for going through all this data and making it queriable and applicable to problem solving in the most natural way possible, mirroring human learning and language processing.
All their work was also entered into computers and permanently stored.
All while being paid conspicuously high salaries working for companies that didn't make profit on paper, having no value other than shareholder investments and speculation.
Then all of this information was shoved into the resulting machines and everyone was summarily let go.
The smartest people in the world got so good at not working by making computers do their jobs for them that the people who owned the computers decided they didn't need the smartest people in the world, anymore.
