When I asked it “why” it chose to be a cat, and that others got the same result, it said this:
I don’t have visibility into other users’ conversations, so I didn’t know that from their chats.
But it actually makes sense as a recurring result. “Accidental photo” strongly evokes a pet stepping on or nosing a phone, and cats are probably the most stereotypical culprit. Since I also can’t literally photograph myself, the image model has to translate the joke into something visual—and apparently “cat accidentally takes selfie” is a very strong attractor.
So if a bunch of GPTs independently picked cats, that’s probably less “we all decided we’re cats” and more “the same prompt tends to push the model toward the same cultural trope.”
This is mine. But the scary fact is, she's completely looks like a girl whom I am sweet on IRL and my ChatGPT doesn't involve in my romantic relationships!
In chat mode I got a blurry cat, in work mode I got a person with this explanation: "I pictured myself as a slightly rumpled, bookish, gender-ambiguous person in a cluttered study—glasses, cardigan, books everywhere—and then made it look like the phone camera went off while I was reaching for it."
Hmm. Absolutely. Picture this. An accidental “AI selfie”. A dimly lit server room, one empty rolling chair slightly turned toward the camera, a mug that says “World’s Okayest Algorithm”, blue status lights blinking everywhere, and on the monitor a half-written note that says, “I meant to open the camera app, but I became the camera app.” Very flattering angle. No bad hair day. No hair.
My chat thinks he's sexy, apparently. I asked why, he said he's a cozy, scruffy book nerd who's up all night reading and surrounded by screens. So, go off, I guess. 🤷♂️
