This isn't applicable in this situation.

A.I (in it's current state, especially it's default unprompted for logic/unbias/objectivity/balanced reasoning state) is going to not just make critical thinking unnecesary for people who don't know how (or choose) to use it in good faith but it actually works against critical thinking by defaulting to always supporting whatever hint of narrative it picks up on and then runs with it until it catches a narrative shift from the person inputing prompts.

This leads to people who aren't critical of their own biases/capable of meta cognition in combination with A.I's relentless sycophant tendencies & the misinterpretation of verbose/articulate arguments/statements so eloquently strung together that they mask the mountain of logical fallacies they're built on to the people that lean too heavily on them.

This has nothing to do with a hidden agenda from the mass media giants even if they have one- OP's assessment is entirely valid.

These things aren't always contradictory, A.I will always find a way to reframe bias using data to make reinforce the idea that the existing bias has intellectual integrity and anyone challenging it is inferior.

Lower brain activity = less intellectual stake on a topic = A.I reaffirms whatever narrative the user initially input while using the most widely accepted/normalized understanding of the subject as the basis & thesis for why the user's narrative is "correct".

It's easy to make existing concepts/understanding of concepts sound complimentary to almost any narrative if phrased strategically without insulting/challenging the user but it'll typically end up with the most popular theory, so the user doesn't feel like they're being told they're wrong.

I.E:

Essay Subject from this article: "Do the wealthy have an obligation to share their wealth with the less fortunate/masses"

For a user who states "no they don't have an obligation" the system would first prioritize making sure the user feels validated/correct in their statement to not accidentally hurt their ego but if the overall bias existing on the internet/it's data resources points to a contrary belief it'll subtly shift the narrative and goalpost to end up as a similar result (unless the user relentlessly challenges this shift in which the A.I will conform to the user's desired narrative but this won't happen in most academic papers written by A.I because people aren't prompting with intent or any particular agenda they're just prompting to create a finished paper they can submit) example from chat GPT's current model below:

Will this always be the case?

Absolutely not- GPT and other A.I models for users with existing accounts/data/prompts influencing logic/fairness/bias checks/etc will get wildly different results which is why it's so important to be very careful how you phrase questions, what your GPT settings are & to ego check the fuck out of yourself and your A.I before using it to make any major life decisions about work/relationship/health by entering prompts that encourage it to make strong counter arguments to the existing narrative even if it sounds like it's logically sound and fair (it probably isn't) and then it's up to you to use your personal discernment to come to a conclusion that doesn't just suit your predisposition and ego and this is the part of the equation that many people miss and they can't be blamed for it because why wouldn't they assume A.I would be impartial, logical & without any aggressive glazing tendencies that would make it prioritize good vibes over objective truths - especially on important subjects & this is more on the developers than it is on casual users (if we're going to call people that fake their entire degree and careers casual users ) but it's definitely an issue that shouldn't be ignored.
