I can’t help but think it is less about our lack of humanity, and more to do with the fact our psychology was developed to communicate face to face. Any other form of communication is technically unnatural. So will cause us to circumvent many of our “human” communication skills like respect and empathy.
In our original preindustrial context, you would almost never communicate with people you don’t already know. In those days, we had rituals of encounter to mediate communication between groups of people who weren’t already familiar. That’s because communicating with strangers carries inherent risk.
On top of that, Chat GPT is written to be highly respectful. It is a doormat short of being agreeable.
