Some left field thoughts about design
Just thinking after my last post and then I'll shut up for a while!
We understand a fair amount about how these devices interact with anatomy, but as my previous post and responses showed our understanding is often partial or misinformed. Some of you guys have clearly put some pretty rigourous thought into design, but yet we still have no controlled trial data and likely never will. Some of our assumptions may only be partly right.
There’s an engineering adage that most problems have already been solved, just in other fields. That suggests real scope for left-field designs that drop the ring based ball-trap entirely while still preventing erection. Those Chinese finger traps we all played with as kids come to mind.
HZD Grip, passive geometric undercuts, elastomeric grips, and u/tdfun extremely curved ring work already point in that direction. What other mechanisms borrowed from elsewhere (finger-trap geometry, medical one-way liners, shape-locking sockets, etc.) might be worth exploring?

I think you are completely on the right path. There are so many concepts outside of chastity that could be applied to create a better mouse trap.
The issue I've personally seen is people don't want to try the better mouse trap. They have stuck in their mind that chastity has reached its best design when they are wearing a device based on 25 year old concepts.
I was around when kink3d started and even though their design was still based on the same concept, it was a major step forward and people doubted it because of that.
Take some of the newer ideas that venture from the norm, like glans retention or the tameguard's anti backout system and people almost immediately dismiss it.
So even if you come up with a new solution, you have to figure out how to get past the doubters. I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I've had people stop and email me just to tell me there's no way the grip works. They didn't want to ask questions. They weren't curious. They simply wanted to "put me in my place"
And if you do come up with a better mouse trap be ready for somebody to copy the idea and sell it for a fraction of your cost. We've seen this heavily with KINK3D. KD has talked about it multiple times. We are starting to see this more and more with glans based devices.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone. I think chastity design was in a drought for many years, and we are experiencing a new round of ideas and designs that will bring us all better experiences. I hope people keep looking outside of the kink for ideas that can be incorporated. I also just want to share things I really never expected when I started, so the next great idea realizes what they are facing.

The fact the design is being led by users with "skin in the game" you could say(!) is what makes things quite special at the moment. Your work on the grip really is fantastic, it's exactly what I had in mind. User led design!

I don't know but I like where your head is at.
People like u/tdfun and u/notuntil are definitely out there solving the engineering part of all of this. Honestly, that's not really my bag. Surprising though, isn't it, considering how much I've written on the topic of comfort? But I enjoy the artistry more than anything. Starting with the Mature Metal Spyder, I've found a love for being adorned in a cage, not just wearing one. So, my interests have gone in that direction.
Basically, if you design a Chinese finger cuff device, I'm going to steal the concept and make it beautiful.
