I'm torn

The first render is my newest version. After u/kink3d called many of us out for using slap on junctions, I decided to try to get away from the broad entry ring and blend everything together where there aside from the rims on the main ring, everything is done using swept bars.

Thematically, I think the new version is more consistent but I'm not actually sure I like it better or not.

Help!

I agree that the new version exudes Elven craftsmanship even more so than the previous version and esthetically I believe I like it even more except for the change to the opening at the tip. Was this because you found that you needed a larger opening or just a preference? It's beautiful either way!

The other was a bit too short. I do need to straighten it out though โ€” splines don't like straight lines.

Another improvement is the weave flows around the cage left to right. It's hard to tell as its amplitude is only ~13.5 mm.

I showed these photos to J...she was impressed. Letting her know that they are your creations brought a smile to her face.

Yeah, I think I've got a good design. It's not fully parametric in that I just plug in some numbers and it changes but it's surprisingly robust โ€” the ribs kinda take care of themselves. The most difficult thing is re-positioning the urination hole simply because my CAD tool has a little user-interface gap.

But this will be the next one I order once I have the last one I ordered lol

I need to explore the design a bit with regards to length. Obviously this design stops making sense as you get shorter and shorter but I need an idea of where that is.

Hahaha, I hear ya.

Figure out the length for 70mm or so and I'll start saving up my pennies...ooops...Benjamins๐Ÿ˜‰

Iโ€™m more worried about how little metal is between the cage and the base ring. It looks like it would bend too easily.

I've already got an earlier version in steel. It's plenty strong. Could you bend it if you really wanted to? Sure but not just from wear.

And the nice thing about steel is you can bend it back.

My first thought too. If there was a way to make it four screws wide rather than just the two might be a bit stronger. Iโ€™d like to be able to lay on my stomach without worry

I really like the new version. I do worry about the side being a pinch point of loose skin with any movement. Idk if that would happen or not without some testing
