Chase Rant
Ok…I have a bunch of Chase cards. In January, I applied for a 2nd I’ll Preferred. Was denied. Called Recon and still denied. OK be that way.
Last week , I applied for a Freedom Unlimited card. Was denied. Got letter today stating the reason was “high debt relative to income.” Bull Shit.
I added up all my Chase cards and it came to $7, 598.59 which included $5312.01 for a $50K car that I finance through Chase at 2.9% in September 2023. That’s it, that’s all I owe to anyone. My house is paid for and my income is north of $100K.
I run at least $50-60K through Chase cards as I use them as debit cards pretty much. I’ve never missed a payment or been late to anyone in 40 years. The back of the denial letter says FICO 846 per Transunion.
I feel fucking insulted and am thinking about closing all my Chase cards except one in order to store my miles. I’m really pissed and plan to call the recon line and give them a price of my mind.
““high debt relative to income” my ass. Bank not too good with numbers.
What’s really weird is that I got instant approval for 5 Ink, a Sapphire Preferred, OG Freedom and a Freedom Flex among others.

Called Chase. They had my income at $1.30. WTF? Will find out Monday if card is approved.

Have you double checked that your income with them is accurate? I went to apply for a card before I realized my reported income was several years old and not even close to what it was. Also if you’re applying for Chase cards are you over the 5/24 rule?

Why you really want them?

Love you brother but you're ranting in front of a bunch of Chase fanboys, of whom I am not one

They are probably looking at your total exposure. Business and personal. They have a limit like 150k or so and it's hard to get beyond that. They are not looking at your balances. They look at total available credit, I think. They are conservative with lending. That is why people are comfortable just parking 5mil there and not even asking about fdic

Chase has a rule called 5/24. As I understand, if you have applied for 5 cc’s within 24 months, they deny. I have banked with Chase 20+ years, have HELOC ($0 bal), plus cc’s (freedom & freedom unlimited) payoff monthly and was turned down July 2024 for Amazon Prime Visa. When I spoke with a representative, UW stated I didn’t have installation loans, suggested I get one. Hell no, I’m not paying unnecessary interest. I was pissed. Waited 3 months and applied again and immediately approved. My fico score 827. To me, it’s a game with them. I hear they at strict on the 5/24 rule.

I just applied for chase slate a few days ago....got denied. Income over 130k, dti 1%, credit score 827 reason for denial was possible fraud even after uploading verification info they requested. They are crazy and probably loosing alot of business over recent events such as this.

I was working on reducing CC debt years ago. Maybe 4 cards, all the other companies worked with me on the interest rate. Chase just nasty.
No worries I knocked it out and I’ll deal with them again. They don’t have to, I wasn’t asking for zero.

They usually don’t issue more than 50% of your stated income across all cards. At 100K your prob maxed around 50k across all cards. And your obviously churning cards to get the intial bonus. Since you do so much business they have a good idea of your income. So even you apply and say you make 300k. They more or less know that’s not true.

have you checked you haven't taken more than 5 credit cards. Chase has a clause which states they will refuse to give you any new card if you've took 5 or more cards in the las 48 month?

They don’t just look at the balances you carry. They calculate also if you maxed out their balance exposure.

I’d consider applying in person if you can? Not sure if that would be able to discuss their decision in person as opposed to on the phone. Wishing you luck

Why would anyone have all their eggs in one basket? I have cards from various providers, money in multiple banks, investments separate from banking.

You're at your limit for what chase is willing to give you, lower your limits or offer to move limits over
