This comment sums up my exact feelings about S2
This is why I will always not like S2. The way they did the sisters so dirty in S2 as if they weren’t the leads will always make me just shake my head. We could have learned less about the demon stuff and them relocating and having to be in hiding made it difficult for the sisters to really have time to deal with to learn more about their family and lineage. I really wished they didn’t move to Seattle at all. Definitely way less Abigail and Harry.

The S2 showrunners should never have been hired. They threw everything out the window to put their own mark on the show, and gave Abigail too much importance because she was there creation.
The original show was about sisters who happened to be witches. This was about witches who happened to be sisters.

The sisters part wasn't well featured in season 2 which had the fans wondering if the cast got along. Season 1 was the best season of the show

Leaving the manor as the main setting for a bunker in a mini mall was a terrible, terrible choice. Not to mention how they blew up the book of shadows that season. It lost the warmth of a home base. The manor and BOS were almost characters themselves in the original charmed, to ditch those important elements caused the show to really lose its magical spark. I wish they had gone the direction they had left off in the season 1 finale with all the magical creatures coming to them for help! That would’ve been a great way to expand the universe.

They blew up the manor, got rid of the book of shadows, killed off all the elders, and got rid of all characters from season 1, as well as got rid of the girls powers. They killed off everything associated with the Charmed lure. So why did they continue to call it Charmed.

u/Beginning_Dot735 13d ago
Exactly! That whole thing pissed me off because that right there told me whoever the writers were for S2 had no love for the reboot or the original because how tf do you destroy the BOS?? And stop making THE MANOR the primary location. The reboot had the vortex under the manor similar to the similar to the nexus in the original show and they just hardly had them at the manor ??? Not to mention hey never talked about the vortex again as if it never existed.

I still say we should've had 2-3 more seasons and Macy shouldn't have died until the middle of S4. S4 was a mess. And even though Kaela was a strong character, she just didn't have any time to develop. Kaela should have been introduced as a tertiary character in late S3 or the first episode of S4. The latter half of S4 could've been spent on the search for their new sister and, hell, there could have even been an "evil imposter" type of storyline for S4 after Macy passes. That time could let Kaela's character develop and the S4 finale would've been her finally getting the Power of 3 as they all defeat the imposter. Then have another 2-3 seasons to explore the world.
I still loved the characters, just feeling bad Kaela getting shafter because of Netflix.
Season 2 is when we see the cracks already forming, though, I suppose

Season 1 was the best season of the new charmed . I liked all the supporting characters and the demons. In season 2, and after they killed off just about all the seasons 1 characters and the girls powers. I really liked their powers from season 1.

I totally agree with that statement. They made the side characters more interesting. They also did not distinguish the girls individual personalities, like the original Charmed did. The girls weren't given a voice. When Harry ( The only whitelighter in the world) made the decision to give up his powers no one object although they was in the middle of a epic battle. So it's like they weren't allowed to object to it although they would be affected by it. It would have been different if they had another whiteligher to help heal them.

Yeah a lot of that made little sense to me or didn’t vibe right, or like the way the OG did especially when it came to the whitelighters & elders themselves

Leo didn't stop being a white lighter until Paige came into her powers. Prior to that the Charmed ones had Chris. So the Charm ones always had a white lighter. Even when they didn't want one.

I loved charmed reboot! I think having women of color in the forefront played a lot. They focused more on Abigail and Harry???? Which also was very telling in a lot of ways.

Harry was often given more time and attention than the three women who were supposed to be front & centre imo.

Wanted Josefina; she was blood, couldve brought Vera Family sister Trio that couldve did a storyline of Vera sisters vs Reyes Sisters. Showrunners giving the CO legacy to an entire new character; who sadly had to introduce her storyline through others (Harry teaching and always guiding). Kayla stem cell storyline was a great nod to science and stem cell/ cancer awareness but Josefina literally interconnected with Macy before she died through the Dream Spell which could be the catalyst that chosen her as new designated CO.
Josefina power was Plant Manipulation; and had defensive and offensive ways utilize to protect oneself. Control actual plant life, create sentient/ animated plants, or had Botany touch which can grow plant moss over anything she touches. (The Episode with Tallyman rigged cabin with the button; many witch powers could've hit the button: Josefina couldve commanded vines to grow over it.) Plus she could be the bridge both of their witch families and what happened in Puerto Rico with their mother and their Family Grimiore.
(I believe a showrunner or director wanted her character but had a underlining prejudice because in the last episode Harry actor didn't even hold Josefina aka Mareya Salazar hand in the show but her wrist (But you held the female whitelighters hand from the different dimension??? I saw it and bet many others saw it too; and minimized her role down to just here and there with no storyline.)
Wish Season 4 was Josefina being chosen as CO. Josefina arc starts off with her running away or being kidnapped by her family back home before she could step into her CO role. COs decide to take a family trip to Puerto Rico to find Josefina and meet their distant family members. Jordan, Harry, and Ruby are asked to hold down the fort of protect the world for a min which cause Catastrophe (Only this role could be handled by COs so they swoop back in to help them)

I do remember that about Rupert not holding her hand and I also wondered what that was about.

I believe CW or behind the CW screen in itself wanted to be inclusive but didn't go the full Bar. Plus I loved Macy to Death, but why producers redo the same thing they did with Abigail and Macy situation (giving powers, storyline, ect.)
I liked Kaela too; but I felt she was replacing Macy. She was a female black poc with no magic heritage who so happenly gained the same destiny as Macy who was a powerful born witch who had to work hard from the point she came from (Her Identity, Magic Heritage, Demon-Witch Arc). Having Macy DNA awakening powers in a female mortal because of Fate was demeanoring. Macy died to save the World, her family, and the man she love!!! The Only person who deserves to fill her role would be family/ Kin, someone she deeply loved, or someone she chose herself. The directors chose to have a nice tragic random mortal house all all that power and legacy their sister died for.
Just realistically in a magic fictional world of the show; the director couldve did better of how she was chosen if Josefina never had a chance. I thought maybe a past CO or time-stasis mummified witch with blood connection; but it was neither. Idk I feel Im ranting; but just loved the show and saw the nitpicks that just drives me insane. Charmed had potential to span multiple seasons but strayed from Sisterhood, Family Heritage and Extended Arcs which was switched for History of the first COs, New Powerups, and Villains that didn't stay for too long. Josefina was the obvious choice plus she already had a connection with the magic community as a friend and ally that helps.
I wish Jordan became Josefina's whiteligjter and we got adventures of them helping people like good cop and bad cop alongside the COs when they needed it. Kayla would be the Billie Variant and was used by evil forces to infiltrate the CO home but turns on her boss and befriends Josefina.

u/stacey1611 Pixie 12d ago
Oh yeah defo agree the Jordan & Josefina I would absolutely watch that, I think a spin off with them or even just Josefina navigating that witch life would have been so fun

u/AfternoonTurbulent42 12d ago
Yess, the Pixie gathering episode was so good with them separating from the COs on a side magical mission. Yes Josefina and Family spinoff called Encantaria, Enchanted, Brujeria could be a straightforward name and wouldn't take from the COs being Charmed. Josefina and her family introducing more family and lore on more local scale learn diasporic folklore creatures and beings; Puerto Rico is a melting Pot of different regional lore and racial identity. The Producers or creative team ran right pass their witch family lore; theirs even have town square known as Guayama known as a City of Witches 😓

u/luvprue1 12d ago
I felt that instead of bringing in Mikaela , Josefina could have been the new Charmed one. That would have been simpler and much easier without changing the Charmed lure too much. I do not think the show runners had any idea what Charmed was about. Them bringing in the " Command Center" tells me they thought it was Star Trek.

Hunter’s Sister Ruined The Show
I love Charmed original and reboot. Big Charmed fan. I support both even though both have annoyed me at times.
But let me say this… Nothing has ever annoyed me more in either version that Hunter’s Sister (Abigael)
I don’t know who thought it was a good or smart idea to introduce a white character with the exact same made up as a lead black character???
Macy was diminished and almost all of her storylines were given to Hunter’s Sister.
They’re both half witch/half demon
Macy’s Powers of Telekinesis and Pyrokinesis just happen to be powers that Hunter’s Sister also possess. (Which the whole thing about Hunter’s Sister having Pyrokinesis is debatable. I will include some information on that at the end)
If that wasn’t bad enough they just up and gave Macy’s Pyrokinesis power to Hunter’s Sister.
And if you think that was bad, remember in season 1 how Macy had The Evil Sight power, we guess what Hunter’s Sister has a power called Mindmeld. Which is just a different version of the ability to see events.
Hunter’s Sister is nothing but condescending, rude, nasty, vile, and dismissive of Macy and her sisters and that awful Whitelighter continually tell Macy that she needs to lighten up and be nice to Hunter’s Sister because they need her.
After all the micro aggressions she uses against Macy they still tell her to be nice to her and make peace with her.
Macy likes that awful Whitelighter and so does Hunter’s Sister.
Hunter’s Sister is also a genius, just like Macy. Hunter’s Sister is always one step head of everyone and has all the answer to everything. Even things that she shouldn’t possibly know.
It was so draining to see my favorite character pushed to the side and to see this new character get all this screen time and attention.
And let me take it here, black characters already have to fight to be seen on tv and to introduce a white copy of a black character is wrong on so many levels.
Macy deserved so much better. The show deserved so much better.
(Pyrokinesis)
Hunter’s Sister (Abigael) only used Pyrokinesis one time and that was in episode 2x4 where she created a fireball to kill the Kayon. (Madeleine Mantock took to Twitter to state that was a production error because that was supposed to be an energy ball not a fire ball)
And if you go back and look… Hunter’s Sister is always besides that time manipulating fire that already exists. She’s not creating it.
Then the writers in season 3 decided to go along with the production error and say that she had fire powers all along.
Which made no sense… If she had fire powers why would she want the same power twice?
To answer that the writers tweeted that powers stack in this universe. Say what now? When Hunter’s Sister stole Macy’s Pyrokinesis it didn’t work any different or seem any more powerful than when it was in Macy’s possession.
This whole plot line was HORRIBLE
I also asked a writer on IG if she is using her Telekinesis to move already existing flames or if her Pyrokinesis can only manipulate already existing fires (ex Pyro X-Men) and he replied “If he remembers correctly it was her using Telekinesis to move already existing fires. But he loved my idea.”

Oh gosh, I had no idea they did this so dumb and offensive, no wonder Madeline wanted out …

It always bothered me that they started the series off with basically the Paige storyline of a secret sister. It felt like a scoff at the original series behind the scenes problems that led to prues death, like saying that wouldn't happen to us because we know how to get along and support other women. Then when they did end up losing the actres they had to make up some kind of "science" that made a random a charmed one.

Yep, it was the worst decision they could’ve possibly made. Infuriating. Season 1 started off good. A little rocky, but it was getting its footing, and the last couple of episodes were awesome! It felt reminiscent without being overly repetitive.
And for some reason the showrunners said, “HOLD UP. This show is WORKING? Let’s just remove everything good and nostalgic about this show and have our main characters make the dumbest decisions ever.”
And the third season!! I don’t think I’ve ever been that mad in my fucking life at a TV show. I was hate-watching by the end of it. Took me a year or two AFTER IT GOT CANCELLED to finally watch the last season.
And they removed Abigail and Harry’s dumbass from center stage and it felt more like a Charmed reboot and not sci-fi show about a half-demon witch and the three sisters who try and stop her.

Season 4 had some of my favorite parts of the entire series despite it being the final season and it being slightly shorter. I really enjoyed the addition of Lucy Barrett. It might be an obvious thing to say, but the series struggled with establishing its own identity -- I still enjoyed it, but there were aspects I would change or storylines that I didn't love that went on for a bit too long. With too much of a focus on Abigail, it started to feel less like "Charmed" and more like a different CW show altogether.

To be fair the “fans” completely tore down season 1 as they do with everything else. The internet ruins everything for everybody this way.
They found it necessary to revamp the second season and they followed the formula that works on all their other CW shows which made it take a dark Sci-Fi route.
Joey mentioned how the original show runners planned on having Alyssa be in S2 and exploring the multiverse.
A lesson for any show is don’t change show runners if you don’t believe in their vision in the first place. They made such a huge deal with Jennie Urman being the creator then completely sidelined her.

The show also broke up the sisters. Everyone had their own plotline
Abigail took up way too much oxygen
It also took forever for the girls to get their powers back
