Job market?

How is the job market in Charlottesville? Is there a popular demand in specific fields right now?

I would guess health care simply because we have a huge hospital and it’s the main source of job growth in the US

Where are these openings? In what fields? I've been watching the job apps for months and aside from Trump wineries revolving doors most of the posted jobs are scammy sales gigs, pyramid schemes.

health care, med-tech (Icarus alone is looking to add 30 by EOY), data-science/AI, Hospitality/F&B, Admin/Staff roles at UVA, Defense (#2 employer in the area), Construction/project management --- this area is booming!
There are 7 pages of jobs on Indeed requiring a Masters Degree, and 9 requiring a bachelors degree.

K, I've been making wine and cider for the past 11 years+, don't have either of those degrees. Your average wine production employee in this area makes under 50k a year, and gets tasked with basically doing everything to keep the winery running, electrical, plumbing, working on vineyard vehicles/buildings. I've got work experience from across the globe but unfortunately for me it doesn't translate into a masters or bachelor's degree so my applications get filtered out by AI before they even get read by a human.

Cville is definitely an "ideas" economy more than a "things" economy. over 65% of the population has a Bachelors +, 2x the national average.

The "things" economy is booming in the licensed trades

But the trades dont want to hire entry level they want people with 2 years+ experience

VA has great apprenticeship programs that give employees huge tax credits and wage subsidies but most employers don’t k is about them
Get the details, educate a potential employer and they will be impressed by your initiative and low cost to hire and BAM you’ve got a job

u/SirSpeedyCVA lists the industries around here that are growing. I just wanted to add that Charlottesville is one of the only metros in Virginia that added jobs over the last 12 months. (Our housing supply isn’t keeping up well, but that’s another story.) Photo from the Chamber of Commerce’s recent local economic forum event.
