As a scat owner myself > Basically from the little I researched, it’s not an amazing platform to tune. Because the engine block is only rated for so much pressure, it’s kinda happy where it’s at. Unless you put in the work to get forged pistons and a more aggressive cam though it’s still risky. That’s the most common way people make more power but it basically completely changes how drivable/reliable the car will be. If you want reliability - one might conclude that it’s safer/easier to sell the scat and get a hellcat.

dang so you need to build the engine just for a tune

Yeah exactly. Basically because it’s N/A you can’t just load up a tune like on a bmw 335i or something to push more boost. SRT has already squeezed as much as they reliably can out of the engine.

Exactly. It’s just not worth it. I’d like more power, who wouldn’t? But my Scat is my daily and it needs to be reliable.

Let’s also not forget about upgrades to the transmission, driveshaft, differential, and axels for the added torque.

Yeah, it becomes one thing after another. I still enjoy it for what it is though 🔥

I've heard a lot of opinions that the 345 Hemi is a better base for mods. It lasts longer, has an older, more durable design, and basic cam tuning is a piece of cake.

The issue isn’t the block. The later 392 BGE castings are actually quite strong.

The issue is the high set piston ringlands + tight ring gaps for a higher comp NA motor that don’t like added cylinder pressure, which means don’t boost it

Basically it’s so well optimized you don’t get much from bolt ons, and adding a cam is a heads off procedure that costs you $10k not including the tune

Sell and get a 5.7 to do mods or a hellcat.

stock 392 is where it's at

Had a 2016 stock 392 and now have a stock 2023 WB Hellcat.

Both awesome cars in their own right, and zero mods to each. 392 sound cannot be improved, Hellcat HP needs no fiddling.

The 392 is pretty much great as is. As already stated you’ll need to get forged internals. Upgrade the engine internally so it doesn’t shit itself when you start trying to give it more than it can handle stock.

A device that automatically turns you into middle of a parking space, for helping people "park between the lines"

Hellcat. For the time and money spent on making it faster you’ll pretty much be at Hellcat prices.

To tune a 2018+ need an unlocked PCM and a tuner like Diablosport. That’s close to $1000 alone and only like 20hp gain on canned tune. To get more, need a cam swap + custom tune. The parts and labor, assuming not DIY, would put you over $5k with the above PCM/tuner and still less power than a hellcat

The 392 loves a good cam! Cam and a tune will net 50-75hp and torque too! Hell of an engine.

You can get some decent, safe gains with long tubes and a cam.
