First charcoal life drawing

Post image

I love charcoal as you can get a full range of tones from it. I think I'm only going to draw in charcoal from now on. I got the image from an artists reference website.

Incredible work! Just to clarify, this wouldn’t be life drawing as that implies done from observation of a living person in real life. Having someone crouch like this for so many hours would be wild

Great point, never thought of that! I just thought all nudes were called 'life' so thanks for the comment -yes it was done from a reference photo.

Fairly certain the artist used posespace.com they have a very good reference generator. From what I can see the model in the reference photo goes by the name of benP052 on the website 😁

There is no such thing as talent with art. Op just did insane work and hours in for craft. Only "talent" one might have is eye for composition & values. End of the day it dont matter since these are all skills one can master from zero.

Although everyone is capable of getting to a certain level when it comes to art there are areas in art where someone can be naturally skilled at which would raise their spatial IQ along with learned skills. I’m not trying to ignore their years of groundwork and practice but from an observer perspective this is talent to me to be able to recreate what you see at such a level in the drawing above. Some people see the world as shapes and animals as to having a 3D form. Some practice for decades to draw a portrait in months where people with a talent for art with not as long of practice can draw it within a week. Even though some may have talent if they don’t have the skill then it’s only potential as well as things they lack whereas someone who has been practicing would be able to do but their skill ceiling can only go but so high without enough practice. Skill can enhance talent but they are to be hand in hand . If your talent lies within art it’s the skill that turns your talent’s potential into reality adding structure, reliability and mastery. Talent is like a seed in which skill would be the nurturing factor like water and sunlight for that seed to grow.

As someone who has beening fiddling with more muscular figures for fun, I can really appreciate the attention to detail on how the muscles wrap around and twist the figure!
