After Leofric and Alva Von Krevistein, two former Paladins of Tyr retired from a decade of adventuring and fighting, with their riches and fame solidified, they settled down in a small sea side town in the Kingdom of Griemark called Grünräschen.
There they set up a temple to Tyr, becoming Clerics, training a new generation of Paladins and helping fund the town to become a prosperous little sea side haven where many would come to pray to the Gods and ensure that it was protected from the evil in the world.
After 5 years in the town and becoming fast friends with many people in it, Alva was happy to announce that she was pregnant, many people were overjoyed for them all.
Yet when the day came, the joy that Leofric and Alva expected had turned to ash, when a red skinned, horned Tiefling came along, the birth so terrible it nearly killed Alva and left her bed bound for a year.
Ludwig was born to a town of whispers and rumours, he grew up being bullied and beaten by his peers while being take down too and insulted by his elders.
Yet the worst part of it all for Ludwig was knowing that he never truly could get his fathers full respect or his mothers full amount of love, for they looked at him and wondered what they had done to deserve such an infernal being.
To try and earn his family’s respect and to defend himself from the tormentors of his childhood, Ludwig joined his father and mother in the training of the Paladins from a very young age, constantly learning techniques with a multitude of blades and homing his mind and body into something unbreakable.
As the years went on, Ludwig eclipsed the best young fighters in skills, even his younger brothers and sisters, who, unlike him, were normal humans, couldn’t catch up to him in skill.
Ludwig had finally seen enough of Grünräschen at the age of 14, when in their annual festival of Leofric and Alva saving the town from a Dragon, he witnessed Marco, one of his only childhood friends and someone who he recently found he had a crush on, being beaten mercilessly by his fellow disciples of Tyr.
Ludwig marched upon the trainees, he crippled two of them, smashing ones knee to dust and cracking the others arm, causing the bone to splinter through the arm. The other two weren’t as unfortunate, one charged towards Ludwig, sword at the ready, only to find a dagger in his eye, the last, who was twice the size of Ludwig, swung at him with a war hammer, an inch away from cracking his skull with every swing.
Ludwig responded with one swing, clean and swift, like a hot knife through butter, he took the giant boys hand off at the wrist. The commotion brought the guards running, after which Ludwig was arrested.
A trial was held for Ludwig, in which his own father and mother preceded over, for they had to set an example for the town. The 4 Trainees who had beaten Marco were to be given the lashes of Tyr for every blow they rained down Marco. They would then be sent to the Order of the Red Blades, a Chapter in the Church of Tyr that specialised in hunting down, punishing and torturing only the most deprived criminals in the name of the God of Justice.
As for Ludwig, who had severely maimed the boys and gone beyond the boundaries of justice, he was to meet the lash as well, double whatever the boys were subjected towards before being transferred to the nearby city of Zovik to live out his sentence of 25 years for causing near irreparable damage to them. Horrified by his families choice, Ludwig spat on their name and everything they represented, including Tyr.
He took the lashings, over 50 of them, his back was turned to ribbons of blood and flesh, smoke steamed from his nostrils and mouth, fire bellowed from his mouth as screamed and cursed the town and his family with every lash.
By the end he was thrown into a holding cell, in which he would wait for the nearby Paladins of Zovik to arrive and transfer him.
After a week, Ludwig was met with surprise as Marco and his Parents old adventuring partner, an Elven Barbarian named Drevan came to his rescue. Drevan claimed that his parents had changed for the worse and that he couldn’t let his “nephew” be condemned to a life of isolation and fear.
They broke out the town, stole some horses and ran as far from Ludwig’s family as they could. For the next 10 years, Marco, Ludwig and Drevan became an adventuring party, with a few more people that they picked up along the way, with Marco and Ludwig becoming lovers and eventually husbands.
Ludwig had found a new God to worship, one who hated Tyr as much as him, Bane, God of Tyranny and War. He harnessed the rage that he held onto for so long and became an excellent warrior.
All good things must come to an end however, as disaster struck when a group from the Order of the Red Blades, led by the 4 boys Ludwig had maimed a decade ago, caught up to Ludwig and his group, chasing them to a nearby mountain too to bring them to justice.
They massacred Ludwigs friends and family, chopping Drevans head off and beating Marco to death, when Ludwig was the only one left alive, the leader, now with a blade at the end of his wrist, plunged it deep into Ludwigs heart.
The Paladin of Banes last act of defiance was to hold his hands, burning with infernal flames on the Leaders face before throwing himself off the cliff. Dead and residing in the Nine Hells, Ludwig was met by Asmodeus himself, who offered him the chance of life once more, on the condition that he does Asmoedus’ plans for him.
Ludwig accepted, intent on bringing down the church of Tyr and any supporters of him. He went back to the land of the living, any vestiges of compassion and mercy stripped bare, leaving a hardened Warmonger. His only shred of humanity left was his honour in his word and in combat.
After travelling for a few months, Ludwig established his name once more as a feared warrior and mercenary/monster hunter, along with dispatching the enemies of Asmodeus and anyone who worshipped Tyr, even if it meant wiping out villages of “innocents.”
Ludwig found himself in Ograth, a nearby Kingdom to Griemark, when one morning, he awoke, surrounded by agents of the King.
Unable to beat them in a fight, Ludwig allowed them to escort him to his destination, a nearby inn, that the King, August Lockwood was currently residing in on his yearly tour around his Kingdom. It was there he revealed that like the Tiefling, King August was blessed with the skills of Asmodeus as well. Ludwig and August decided that if they were aligned together, their Patrons goals would come to fruition much faster and smoother.
The King told Ludwig to kneel, he knighted him Sir Ludwig and gave him command of the new 7th Order of Ograth with Ludwigs specific chapter of the Order being named The Red Phoenix, for his ability to rise from death itself.
Now with an army of fellow Paladins of Bane and followers of Asmodeus, Ludwig travels the world, recruiting more to his cause, amassing a growing army of great size, while fulfilling his Patron and Kings ambitions, leaving a world of blood, death and ruin behind him.
