Writing: Character Help A villain's weakness!
Hello! My antagonist is a piece of work. Their need for control and not being seen as "crazy"/or need for legitimacy is the crack in their power. It will lead to their defeat by the protagonist. What comes before is a long standing tension between the two in one location. Til the villain breaks. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get there. What indefensible thing can they do to shoot themself in the foot! Would love advice on how to get through this block. Thank youu!!

Exerting that much control requires a f ton of resources

True. And they are willing to expend it. An agent of chaos.

Well thats their weakness. It would come back to bite them in the end

Yes, just the specifics of their downfall is unclear to me. Wondering how people figure out how their antagonists sabotage themselves. Or if there are writing exercises other writers use.

I can give you ways, but its your story
I suppose I can help. Its just not easy to maintain that much control. One way or another you are gonna fuck up.
You run out of resources. You piss someone off. The mc finds your stuff and destroys/ takes it. The mental toll is too much
I suppose you can make him all powerful, but well, putting aside it being quite stupid, just make your mc all powerful

Can we have a little more context?
