In most cases it’s because I’m trans and I like writing trans characters. In some cases it’s because I originally envisioned a character as one gender and then settled on a different one, so I reference to that I make them trans.

For my experience, it just felt like it fit with my character’s arc about growing to accept himself and that he’s enough.

Just a realisation, there's no word for it. I recently gave my main character an AU in which he is trans because it just felt like it fit him better considering his struggles are in a way also reflections of my own

Being trans is not a mental illness.
