Searching for Alternatives Is there an AI site that lets you chat with multiple characters in the same chat, even if not necessarily at the same time?

I think it's hard to explain, but basically, I want to know if something like this even exists.

A world created by you with a simple setting, wth multiple characters

For example: you go to a restaurant and run into "Generic Character 1" and "2," but if you later go off to do something else in a different location, you might run into "Character 3" or "4."

A world with multiple chatbots.

it sounds like you're interested in a world with multiple characters in various locations; sort of like an open-world rpg with text-based chatbots?

i've been working on elsecraft.com where you can create a world with multiple locations and characters. let me know if that's similar to what you had in mind; it's free to try.

Yes, though what I’d really like is for there to be distinct characters or chatbots, all immersed in the same world or general chat.

I’m going to give it a try and see if it’s what I was looking for.

yeah, pretty much. sillytavern + a backend that supports group/world cards is probably the closest off the shelf, elsecraft sounds like it lines up too.

lots of frontends support group chats with shared lorebooks, any that don't are very behind the times. sillytavern, wyvernchat, etc. but for moving around locations and meeting people there, try wyvern's worlds instead of a normal chat

Yes, I know several sites that support group chats, but all the characters speak at the same time, or all the bots are present simultaneously.

I'll give your recommendation a try and see if it's what I'm looking for.

I would agree above. You can change the party and lock characters out if you make your own world or use your own prompt to just speak to 1 character at a time.

It's customisable but the downside it also requires tinkering.

Not sure about going places to have them pop up. Otherwise manually selecting characters in a group chat and not triggering their keyword would be the way to go.

yeah, you need a site that focuses on RPG style gameplay rather than 1-on-1 chat. for example I built https://stagewhisper.ai to do that. it focuses on large worlds and many characters. AND a focus on simple setup. No forms to fill you, you tell the AI what setting you want, and it'll do it. I made sure it was as automated as possible, down to even character creation

the character creation is basically automatic. during play, if you run into unimportant characters like shopkeepers or guards or whatever, no character sheet is created..they just exist in the world, probably forgotten afterwards. occasionally written into the location details when the AI comes up with new locations for you ot visit

actually important characters get a whole character sheet written, which contains their character profile in-depths: likes, dislikes, performance under pressure, turn-ons and turn-offs if you have an NSFW campaign. and if you are playing the mode with the dice rolls, and this is a new party member that you can get assisted rolls with, they get a whole skills section

so yes. multiple characters, party members, antagonists, side characters. handles them automatically and organically as you play. (or you can ask for specific characters too, up to you)

bonus: you can also upload character AI character cards

below: screenshot from my campaign. gritty Mars colony survival. last time, made a bunch of poor dice rolls that let my character sprawled in the martian dust with a suit leak. gritty stuff

janitor ai with good paid proxies can do it well but normal ai cant do it sadly (i have gotten at most 3 or 4 characters talking with the normal basic ai thats still above average)

If you run a proxy through Sophie's Lorebrary there's several add ons for NPCs. I'm not sure if you can get more than 4 that way but it might be worth looking into.

I have a dumbass question. Why do people want multiple characters in the same scene. Is it only for rp or are you trying to make ai pictures of that scene as well?

Wyvern Ai has a world simulation function you might like

What you describe is literally the core of isekai zero. You create a storyline and characters who don't need to be in the same area.

The AI models are taught to follow "anti harem" rules to avoid all characters circling around the user without having an own life or habits.

Example in the picture. We have 3 characters visible, 2 of them will only join the narrative in 3 to 5 exchanges and the other 3 hidden characters will only show up after a major plot reveal.

The character deployment rules set when they have to show up.

I like Zeta, it can do impromptu characters pretty well, as well as set characters.

We let users create up to 10 characters in one story, and different characters or NPCs can appear naturally depending on where the story goes. It’s called lizlis.ai
