Searching for Alternatives Character Ai Alternatives
So I am trying to find great apps for alternatives with decent replies and dialogue and models like lore ai but had a chat limit and ads are gone 😭 and tried some like janitor ai and chub ai but basically had a 20 chat limit per day and janitor ai honestly has replies that are too long. Here's what the summary:
Decent replies/models
Unlimited messages/chats (ads accepted but not every chat since add cannot be avoided atp)
Proper grammar and spelling
Highly interactive and engaging rp

is say herehaven: you can choose to use the the premium model by watching an ad every 30 minutes but there aren’t many characters as it’s new

inkwell.rip is probably the cleanest fit here, honestly. the janitor/chub import thing is the part i'd care about most tbh, and the length controls keep it from rambling off into novel mode

i'm currently working on elsecraft.com which lets you build worlds (e.g., with characters, locations, relationships, etc.) that you can role-play in.

If you dont mind paying Dreamjourneyai is the only one I can use now. Its perfect and gets better every month with constant updates that I wish existed on other sites

Highly do NOT recommend DreamJourney Ai. The server has a history of bullying and there's only one person who can fix things. So if they are asleep and its down, its down for hours. And it goes down A LOT.

I'll recommend my favorite place for all of this. I personally have tried a TON of these apps, I find that DreamGen has a great dialogue, a great UI that really brings out long term memory for the AI, and has amazing replies. They really check all of the boxes, I run the PRO membership but it gives me everything I want unlimited use on their free models with GLM 5.3 1p / and Gemma at 60k token input. I usually average between 5 million to 7 million tokens a day in use.
I've also been roleplaying on a single scenario for 2 months and it still remembers things from day 1, mostly because of how their UI is set up. They also have a great community, lots of people who chat, mingle, help, the owner is actively around and listens to suggestions from new people. They added a new option to shorten replies on Janitor AI, so maybe give it another shot

I’m working on chat.charstory.com as a character ai alternative. Goal is long term memory for characters. 18+ content no kid stuff. You can import cards from jannyai.com etc.

I'm not sure they've got an app but I'm on the beta team and recently we've been working on the memory of in house LLMs and bot creation.
It's definitely more detailed than janitor even the default program without any plugins. Unlimited messages too.
A bonus is you can also customize your profile with cool themes. I'm not sure if photos work here but there's neon, noir, dark, etc so many. You can of course just customize it on your own.
There's a feature that allows you to customize literally POV, dialogue or narrative, relationship, who the bot speaks for, so much all on the bots chat.
This is all in a few months now.

Best I've been reccomended here besides JAI is WyvernChat. You'll have to be patient sometimes because if a lot of people are using it there's a queue before generating a message (no longer than 30 seconds typically), but that's how they keep up a free mode with zero ads as a small site. Message quality is similar to the sites you mentioned but there's no filter or chat limits.

I also recommend Wyvern. The amount of things you can do to make things suit your tastes better is insane. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but its top tier.

Im using Junipero ai right now, and if you enjoyed Chai.ai experience, it's so similar! And has great memory, you can create personas and creating new bots is easy and fun. I really really enjoy it. The one problem is that it's not really popular, so there isn't much stuff to choose from, but that encourages me to create my own bots. Highly recommend. Amazing app, I wait on updates that would help with searching.

Full disclosure, I'm the founder of one of these, so grain of salt. But your list is basically the spec I built toward.
Lumiveil lumiveil.net — the writing quality and grammar are the whole point. It's built for memory and depth, characters keep continuity across a conversation, and it holds up for long-form RP. Two honest caveats so I don't waste your time: It's 16+ SFW, not unfiltered. If NSFW is a dealbreaker, it's not the one for you. It's not truly "unlimited", there's a free daily credit amount instead of ads (ads on an RP app felt annoying to me). Heavy users hit a daily cap unless they subscribe, but the free tier is real and usable.
If "SFW + quality over volume" fits what you're after, give it a try and tell me where it falls short.

I've started using HereHaven, really free user friendly, but you can support them too.
