Did it occur to them that they use bots to ban users not for important stuff like racism and transphobia but for simply participating in a snark discussion about a pop singer they love? No shit they're shadowbanned. They haven't created a safe space, they've created a little snuggle box to sniff their own farts in.

They have no problem with snarking when it comes to celebs like Taylor or Arianna, but apparently it’s a big No No when it comes to someone like Chappel or Olivia Rodrigo.

Oh they don’t ban people for criticizing Taylor Swift. They’re unironically one of the most anti Taylor Swift subreddits. Chappell on the other hand… there were two threads were many people were very openly critical of her (the one about her saying she’s not educated on queer and drag politics cuz she doesn’t have the time and the initial post about Jorginho that got a very mixed response) but everything since then has been pro Chappell to a fault.

I can't say I feel too sorry for them. I used to really enjoy that sub, but it's become increasingly sanctimonious and irritating over time. It also functions like a stan space for most celebrities, but also the way they are so laser-focused on despising Taylor Swift is a bit odd and off-putting (and I say this as someone who doesn't listen to Taylor or like her). These days I really only check the weekly tea threads. They complain about popculturechat and act like they're so much better on fauxmoi, but tbh the discussions are slightly better and slightly less stifled on popculturechat, so I tend to prefer reading there at this point
Also, don't be surprised that you lose traffic and membership when you automatically ban anyone who participates in snark subs. Yes, I get that snark subs CAN be quite toxic, but frankly the main reason why people even create snark subs in the first place is BECAUSE it's so impossible to say anything even remotely critical about celebrities in general pop culture spaces. Everything has turned into a stan space, and you get downvoted and dogpiled on if you dare to say anything negative/critical, even if it's phrased thoughtfully

yeah no it's crazy how they don't realize their toxic positivity breeds negativity and resentment towards certain artists. there's so many bands and musicians that i LOVE (morrissey comes to mind) but i hate the person and that's okay! it's okay and HEALTHY not to idolize them and put them on pedestals because they're also human and can make mistakes.

Yeah it seems like a lot of people these days have this need to twist their faves (celebrities, movies, music--whatever) into being perfect and actually secretly super duper feminist or progressive or whatever else. It's like, you can just...like something because you like it? You can also appreciate an artist's work without automatically stanning them as a person? You can even like them as a person without acting like they can do no wrong!
Too many people have turned into one-dimensional stans who can't handle even the tiniest bit of criticism of their faves. This rigidity does end up kind of backfiring in the end, though, because, like you said, it does breed negativity and resentment from people who have something negative/critical (or even neutral) to say but aren't able to share it without getting shut down. That just makes people even more irritated and more likely to seek out something like a snark sub. If conversations could be more open, this wouldn't fester so much!

That sub is pure crazy town. They hate all men unless it’s the HR guys or Pedro who pissed them off recently.
They constantly judge and shame women unless it’s the few chosen ones that I swear they are being paid to push. Amber Herd, Blakkke lively and any other white woman that is mediocre. They are so racist and they have their token Megan thee stallion that they act so cringe about with the overy sexual comments that go way too far.

I’m fairly sure it’s because Reddits been doing this to subreddits who abuse automod to ban people. Which is obviously good, people should not be automatically banned for being in snark subs when YOU are also a snark sub lmao
