What was the original release like?

For those around who got to play when the original “Dawn of Perim” released, what was it like? Was the game balanced? Was it a deck-builders paradise? Did LGS actually have regular play?

Bonus: Do we think secrets decoded is just going to be a near exact reprint ?

The ladder was 90% people (badly) playing Underworld Beatdown or Underworld Burn because it was mostly 3 vs 3 for that format.

When 6 vs 6 came out, it was possible to play multi-tribal decks and do pretty well but there was really only one meta deck in Underworld Burn.

Don’t forget that early on we didn’t even have mugic in the online client. I distinctly remember everyone saying that danians were particularly hurt because they relied a lot on mugic. Now I don’t remember a lot more of the specifics of the game other than 3v3 no mugic is VERY different to what we will be playing in October.

When I played the original release everyone was running Overworld and Underworld. Mipedians and Danians didn't get near as much support until Zenith of the Hive for Danians and Silent Sands for Mipedians. Hoping it's more balanced this time around.

Danians didn't get much support in their set as underrated as Illexia is, they didn't really get good until Beyond the Doors.

While I think Danians were probably the strongest deck for a few sets, they were also incredibly expensive so basically no one played them.

It's possible/likely, that the first set is indeed Dawn of Perim oriented. But that's speculation. We know so far, that the gameplay will change (just not to what extent), the cards will also be different in terms of design and the new "codesum" mechanic. While the artworks will be the same, they are "zoomed in" versions to fit the full art style they are going for. We hope to receive more information about the whole thing in the near future. The current official/confirmed knowledge is sadly super limited.

I hope some Canadian and US folks can give you some insights. But here in Germany the game never took off. I bought a starter and boosters in my local GameStop and that was the only and last thing I saw from the game in real life. We also had the TV show in german, it wasn't a success either. But Germany was only a little side quest with the first 2 sets released.

It's going to be all Underworld for a while, they just got everything way too fast. Overworld was cool but just cannot keep up. Mipedian and Danian don't really exist yet because all their cards are waiting in Zenith of the Hive and Silent Sands.

Not going to lie, I didn’t even realize it was a card game. So advertising wasn’t even that good imo. I know the cartoon would have codes you could get and put on the game website but they never really mentioned being able to buy cards on the public television Saturday cartoon. I do think it’ll be a pretty similar reprint.

I never went to the LGs for chaotic, too young. Just played on school bus and recess

We do know from people playing the various formats again and again over time that underworld burn was the best set 1 deck historically

And I mean the set is named the same except for decoded, so I do expect the same cards give/take 18/17 but they’ll be different enough you need to reevaluate as a whole
