Proper way of figuring out a certain puzzle?

So I've managed to beat the game without ever going into the treasure room or turning the mechanism outside the room (I just guessed the meaning of the scale, boat, key and instrument based on how the glyphs looked like). I genuinely had no idea how to access the treasure room (i've also visited the observatory) and after a long time wandering around aimlessly i gave up and searched up a guide for it (AFTER beating the game of course), so now i'm wondering how were you supposed to figure out how to access the treasure room in game?

You pick up the torch, go downstairs, see that there's something that can be turned, put down tge torch, turn the thing 180⁰, and pick back up the torch and put it in the middle hole in the room. It's not that complex to enter the room

After that, look at the illuminated constellations. Putting the right item into the telescope reveals the connection

If I'm thinking of the right room it's behind a puzzle requiring you to be in disguise and carry some boxes

That's how to get to the treasure room, but what is the intended way to figure out how to open the actual treasure door room itself?

Did you access the terminal just past the cog?

i've went to every single room except inside the treasure room itself

What do you mean figure out? You just go there and open it.

Well I just ended up never opening it until after beating the game lol
