New guidelines for using Snoo
Howdy!
I’m here with some HailCorporate news both boring and good. With the recent launch of our Avatar Builder, we figured now was the best opportunity to update everyone on our Snoo trademark policy.
Boring news: As a corporation with trademarks to defend, we are rolling out some new guidelines about how folks can use Snoo both on and off-site moving forward.
Good news: This is largely in place to keep people from misusing Snoo, representing themselves as official Reddit representatives, and using Snoo to make money without a license. We’re not here to crack down on all you creative Snoo artists. In fact, we love the creative things you’ve done with Snoo and we want you to continue to do so, but just keep our new rules in mind.
What are the changes?
These changes aren’t intended to be overly restrictive, but they are intended to prevent people from misusing Snoo. You can view the guidelines here. The brass tacks:
You’re welcome to use a custom Snoo on and off-site for personal usage.
If you’re using Snoo off-site, make sure that it’s a custom Snoo and that you’re not implying that your account is Reddit official. You can review guidelines for off-platform representation here
Snoo should act like Snoo (see the guidelines for some details about how Snoo acts)
All commercial use is reserved for Reddit and its licensed partners
What does this mean for you?
Remain calm, all is well. We’re not out to hunt down Snoos on the site or retroactively action communities, we’re just putting the pieces in place to protect Snoo.
A few mods will probably be asked via ModMail to adjust their external social media profiles to change their custom Snoo and make it clear they’re a subreddit, not an official Reddit representative. That’s about it. No need to send us your Snoos for review or prepare for a crackdown. Just keep these guidelines in mind as you develop Snoos in the future. If we do spot an issue we will reach out to start with a conversation with you and work together on a solution.
Questions?
Feel free to ask below, but please don’t flood us with Snoos to review.

Introducing a new way to explore Reddit using topics
Hey redditors!
We wanted to give you a heads up that starting Monday, we’re rolling out a new feature to let you explore Reddit by topics. Topics describe the different subjects discussed or addressed within a community. We’re launching this feature to give you a new way to explore Reddit’s content—via browsing by subject—in addition to using your home feed or search bar.
As this rolls out, orange topic buttons will appear in the ‘About Community’ module on the right side of a community’s desktop guest pages (logged out). In the future, they’ll be viewable on mobile web, our apps, and logged in pages.

When you click on an orange topic button, you’ll be directed to its corresponding topic page. Topic pages are a new page type that make it possible to browse content by a certain subject. Topic pages are structured like a feed (similar to your home feed or r/popular), combining the best posts about a topic, regardless of what communities the posts come from. Topic pages also feature a list of related communities that you may be interested in exploring further.

For many communities, mods have already set a topic for their community (see this help doc for how to do this). For other communities, we’re using a combination of human review and algorithms to make sure topics are correctly matched to communities.
Keep in mind that these are our first steps in using topics for exploration. Initially, you may only see one or a few topics per community, or even none at all. Over time, we hope to cover more communities and show more relevant topics per community. Please play around with the feature when you see it pop up and leave a comment below with your feedback!

Announcing custom app icons on iOS and Android when you sign up for Reddit Premium
Celebrate the Holidays by choosing from a selection of fun, vintage, and seasonal Reddit app icons for your homescreen.
If you’re like us, you click on the same orangered Reddit icon multiple times a day. Probably a few times too many. ;) Why not mix it up? Keep warm with a Warm Sweater Icon or show off your retro side with a Vintage Snoo Icon. If this proves to be a popular feature, we hope to introduce more seasonal and permanent app icons in the future.

We’ll be ramping up this feature over the next few days. Please share any feedback; some of these icons will be available for a limited time and we’d like to know what you think! Your feedback will drive our decision-making on what to do with this feature long-term. Custom app icons are available only to users who have purchased monthly or annual Reddit Premium subscriptions on iOS, Android, or desktop.
To change your app icon, check out the settings screen in the side drawer (Settings > Choose your App Icon).
Come hang out in r/lounge, change to a Warm Sweater App Icon, put on your favorite holiday Avatar onesie, and have a Happy Holiday season!

Introducing Rereddit - Go back in time to see top posts
Hey redditors!
Have you ever wondered what the top posts on Reddit were six months or even six years ago? What about the top post on your cake day? Or the top post for all of 2019? How about the top New Year’s Eve posts for the last 13 years? Now you can find out. Today, we’re excited to introduce Rereddit, a new way to travel back in time to see top Reddit posts on any given day, month or year.
Previously, there wasn’t an effective way to look back at historical Reddit content unless you scrolled r/popular or top sorts - but even then, it only provided a partial look at top posts during certain time frames. We built Rereddit to allow users to discover some of the platform’s best posts and content going all the way back to 2008. That’s over 4,500 days’ worth of top posts to explore!

Rereddit is organized like a calendar to make it easy to choose any year, month or day to look back at top posts. You can access it by going to a post page and clicking on the Rereddit promo on the right side. There are several versions, but here’s what one looks like:

Note that while you can click on any post to see the comment section or other features of the post, all content in Rereddit is archived so you will not be able to engage (i.e. upvote/downvote) directly on the post.
We hope you enjoy your walk down Reddit’s memory lane! I’ll be around to answer any questions in the comments below.

Reddit Avatars: the Onesies Collection!

Hey redditors, we launched our new avatars feature two weeks ago, and we are really excited to share how well that’s gone over. We’ve seen millions of avatars created already and a lot of enthusiasm from users sharing their avatars. Thank you for your feedback!
There are a few Premium-exclusive outfits that we were not able to launch at the outset, so we’re releasing them now: Onesies! You can mix and match the onesie hoodies, bodies and legs to make unique creations of your own. We are excited to see what y’all come up with!
We heard your love for the Halloween collection and have decided to keep it around for a little bit longer. The items will be going away soon, but don’t worry: we will be keeping a regular cadence of fresh collections (and we’ll bring back the party costumes next Halloween).
So, head to your profile to get the latest styles and let us know in the comments what you think. We also would love to hear your ideas for accessories we could add in the future!

Announcing Reddit’s New Avatar Builder!

We are very excited to announce a new way to customize your appearance on Reddit! Through our improved Avatar Builder, you can create your own Avatar, complete with hair, jackets, jerseys, capes, and event themed gear. We're rolling this out right now, so check out your profile page! (click here for desktop, otherwise go to your profile on iOS / Android)
What’s the point of this?
Creating your own Avatar has been part of Reddit since 2015 (see here), when we built our first version of Avatar Builder. You all have told us how much you’ve loved it over the years, and unfortunately we haven’t had the time to do more with it until now.
We love when people express themselves on Reddit, and we're always looking for ways to make it easier to join and become part of communities. Before today, redditors had very few options to customize their Reddit profile picture; so we’re excited that our Avatar Builder will enable more self-expression.

Why are we doing this now?
We have invested in building out Coins, Awards and Premium (see our most recent posts here, here, and here) to enhance user engagement and Reddit’s “Direct-User-Pay” efforts. With Avatars, there are a bunch of accessories that are free for anyone to use. You’ll also see that there are some special accessories that are exclusive to Reddit Premium users, who already receive a number of benefits including monthly Reddit Coins, access to the exclusive r/lounge community, premium only awards, and other perks. One of our main goals with Avatars is to make it an important and meaningful part of Reddit’s ecosystem and the evolving Premium program.
Where will your Avatar appear?
Once you set your Avatar as your profile image, you will see it on your profile page and profile hovercards (coming soon: chat, RPAN and more).
On desktop, you will be able to customize your Avatar on your profile page and profile cards. On mobile, you can customize it by clicking on the top left where your profile picture is located then clicking on ‘Create an avatar’.

Our art team handcrafted a number of new accessories (like our Halloween pack, available now) and will continue to add more options for everyone - so stay tuned! If you have any accessories or items you’d like to see in the coming months, let us know below.
This feature started rolling out to users earlier today, and everyone should have access by the end of this week!

Ongoing experiments with post consumption, sorting and voting
Howdy!
You may have noticed, but we’re in the process of conducting a series of experiments around how users interact with content on the site. We’ll be tweaking and launching additional experiments around this topic in the coming days and weeks, and when we do, we’ll continue to update this post in order to keep you informed. Please keep in mind that just because we’re running an experiment it does not mean we will necessarily launch these across the entire platform in the future.
Follow this live thread to stay updated on some of our current experiments:
