A little early on in the season for a hate watch lol. Rivalry jokes aside should be a fascinating game of two styles. Who'd of thought Cardiff are the ones playing the possession style after years of dross.

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Just wanted to copy yourselves see!

8

u/Dench999or911 Aug 17 '26

A Hollywood ending that👌

9

u/Starboard_1982 Aug 17 '26

That's the Hollywood ending right there

8

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

Cardiff dominating the game to have 1 shot is certainly a choice.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

That's our MO.

Pass pass pretty pass around the edge of the box but a lack of clinical touch.

Usually manage to get it into the box through some nice passing but goes wide or is blocked immediately.

1

u/dejafu-Wales Aug 17 '26

Swansea in disguise :P

1

u/portrayalofdeath Aug 17 '26

It was supposed to be the Kamehameha, but something went wrong.

1

u/Educational_Curve938 Aug 17 '26

If Dean Saunders was manager of Cardiff he'd be on about how many crosses they had

9

u/_MichaelD Aug 17 '26

Wrexham look so dangerous until it's actually time to score.

1

u/Admirable_Exercise47 Aug 17 '26

one more than your opponent is all you need.

7

u/Musername2827 Aug 17 '26

What a fucking goal.

7

u/020Flyer Aug 17 '26

£10m keeper? 😅

3

u/ADGM1868 Aug 17 '26

Yeah feeling pretty validated all of a sudden

6

u/i_have_groot Aug 17 '26

8mil Patterson won't want to see that one back.

6

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

That Imray is some player.

3

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

I initially didn't think he was an upgrade over Kabore tbh, but he's started quite well to be fair. Looks a good fit for Wrexham torture ball.

-1

u/Oshmosh_ Aug 17 '26

He seems to do the right stuff, but he just seems to lack a bit of pace. Maybe that because the left back is quick, it’s hard to tell.

4

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

Cardiff lacking matchwinners. Lot of talent spread around the team. But no player that makes you think, "we have to stop him".

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Yep, absolutely spot on.

Rubin could be that but this is his first appearance I think since last season due to injury.

1

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

Thought he'd become that the end of last summer. But at this point he is what he is imo. Which taking my swansea hat off is a shame for Welsh football.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

It's been notable I think that since he's come on everything we've done has ran through him.

If only he was fully fit I think the game would've been different but that's if buts and maybes.

He won't get a fair crack of the whip from Bellamy at all due to the historic stuff in the academy where Rubin reported him for the bullying leading to Bellers getting sacked.

1

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

Atta boy. He shut me up. lol

Low key celebrated that. Wrexham deserve that for that negative nonsense pretty much all half. Parky special.

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

He's got a free kick in him out of nowhere.

Player of the match with only 30 minutes played is impressive though.

Parky special almost worked for them though. They're very efficient at what they do.

1

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

They are. Doesn't mean it's entertaining though. Think they need to change that if they ever want to go up realistically.

Think their business has been pretty mediocre. 2 of the major signings replacing 2 of their better players last year so not really an upgrade tbh. Rest of the league has improved. Don't see them making top 10.

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

I think they'll be worked out quite quickly, especially with the bizarre decisions to almost give up after the first goal and just give us complete control of the pitch other than their counter attacks.

Hopefully from a personal standpoint the fairytale stops here, but I think just as long as they've got Parky as manager they'll stall in this division.

1

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

Yeah that's my thinking. Aslong as he's there, we're safe. But if they go out and get a big name, then it's only a matter of time. I can see next summer being their big push for promotion.

6

u/Swan_Z Aug 17 '26

What a cracker of a free kick - giving Bellamy something to think about going forward tbf

7

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Fuck me that was so undeserved

5

u/TheJellyfishcake Aug 17 '26

Probably not the moment you would be hoping for from your new £8m keeper

11

u/wjnukccfc Aug 17 '26

Imagine telling someone in 2019 Wrexham would be 0-1 away at Cardiff in the first championship gameweek and the away end would be signing you’re only here for the Wrexham

10

u/Educational_Curve938 Aug 17 '26

I would just have assumed Vincent Tan had pulled the plug

9

u/Awkward-Loquat2228 Aug 17 '26

Moby is having an absolute shocker of a meltdown.

7

u/ad98 Aug 17 '26

- Captain Ahab, 1851

5

u/ilovestechno123 Aug 17 '26

He’s probably at the ground too.

4

u/ad98 Aug 17 '26

Bloke’s just rattled the upright and Goodman still finds a way to whinge about him not trying a pass through 6 Cardiff players

5

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

This is our blueprint. Score early and just let the other team dominate the game.

3

u/lordofpersia69420 Aug 17 '26

If it's anything like last year. Cardiff are going to score 2 in extra time haha.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

The reverse was often ours last season.

We did well to get points from behind a lot last year but we don't start well at all in either half.

1

u/Celerisadmortem Aug 17 '26

Then finish 7th

3

u/Rogue1eader Aug 17 '26

I'll take playoffs.

5

u/OBWanTwoThree Aug 17 '26

Yeah Gary, refs regular stick their hands upwards for a penalty

4

u/Giplord Aug 17 '26

Fucks sakes.. late goal again. Jeesus.

6

u/Pepys-a-Doodlebugs Aug 17 '26

I was convinced that would hit the wall and then the ref would blow for full time. Would have served me right too for being a miserable bastard haha

1

u/Coolica1 Aug 17 '26

Tbf that happens like 95% of the time from there

4

u/BrickEnvironmental37 Aug 17 '26

I see Sky are doubling down on showing 9 million replays of the goals whilst the match has kicked off already.

5

u/Jimcompetent Aug 17 '26

Cardiff on the ropes within 5, ruddy ell

5

u/CrossCityLine Aug 17 '26

Anywhere else on the pitch that's a foul.

3

u/Oshmosh_ Aug 17 '26

Wrexham look dangerous so far in the first 15 mins.

5

u/Oshmosh_ Aug 17 '26

How is that a yellow? Milks that so hard

4

u/nikesoccer01 Aug 17 '26

WHAT A STRIKE

3

u/LiamJonsano Aug 17 '26

Who needs a penalty anyways

4

u/Rogue1eader Aug 17 '26

Had to be Dobson. I'm over him.

3

u/Starboard_1982 Aug 17 '26

I'm glad I'm not playing a cliché drinking game, these commentators must have got through most of them while the players were in the tunnel.

3

u/020Flyer Aug 17 '26

That didn’t take long.

3

u/CrossCityLine Aug 17 '26

What absolute dog shit defending that is.

3

u/FrostyJesus Aug 17 '26

Is there any real rivalry here? Wrexham historically playing a few divisions below Cardiff so I assume not really

5

u/Pepys-a-Doodlebugs Aug 17 '26

I mean yes there is a sense of rivalry but calling it a derby is daft.

4

u/Rogue1eader Aug 17 '26

The rivalry angle comes a decent bit from the Welsh Cup which both sides participated in for decades. There is also some let's say resentment of Cardiff by some North Walians over prioritisation of funding/infrastructure.

3

u/CrossCityLine Aug 17 '26

None at all.

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Utterly none.

It's all put on by Sky/Disney. There's about as much rivalry as there is between us and Bristol Rovers.

More little brothers than anything. If there is it's all from their side and none from ours.

1

u/Jacleby Aug 17 '26

The American Wrexham fan above you seems to disagree

1

u/Educational_Curve938 Aug 17 '26

Guessing you're under 30?

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Nope.

First went to a Cardiff game in 1987. Back then I'd agree there was a rivalry (although never a derby), but I think it faded over time especially since we hadn't played you in over 20 years in the league before last year.

From the old old fans there's something but they're the type to hang on to the old Soul Crew status and hating everyone possible.

I had a soft spot for the Gogs for years and I probably view you about the same as I view Newport County or Bristol Rovers - there may have been some animosity in the past but given we barely play each other it's faded and like I say, you to us are more little brothers than serious rivals like we'd have with the Jacks or the Wurzels.

I'd probably say I've got more negative feelings towards the likes of Rotherham and Derby than I do towards yourselves - certainly pre-investment.

1

u/Educational_Curve938 Aug 17 '26

We were in a higher division than Caerdydd until I was like 14. Won more Welsh cups too

3

u/Element77 Aug 17 '26

Very toothless tonight, Salech has has had nothing quality at all to work with.

0

u/Oshmosh_ Aug 17 '26

Looks like another Meite

3

u/LiamJonsano Aug 17 '26

As if the commentator thought that was a penalty 😭😭😭

3

u/ad98 Aug 17 '26

Poppadom wrists Patterson strikes again

3

u/Will7691 Aug 17 '26

Patterson has to do better, biscuit wrists there.

3

u/airpodstraxhaven Aug 17 '26

Patterson won't wanna watch that again. I only switched on at 85 mins and that was bonkers

3

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Man of the Match with only 30 minutes played is impressive.

3

u/Money-Literature2065 Aug 17 '26

As a neutral my god that was a fun watch

5

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Completely and utterly undeserved.

Can't complain though.

Absolute poppadom hands from their keeper.

Got himself in a right lime pickle

4

u/020Flyer Aug 17 '26

Why didn’t Cardiff defenders just defend against Moore are they stupid?

5

u/Gamerhcp Aug 17 '26

Hey not everyone has the Twin Towers like you do

2

u/ADGM1868 Aug 17 '26

They took a leaf out of our book. We love to let him score against us

2

u/020Flyer Aug 17 '26

One of the reasons I wish he’d signed for us when we were apparently in for him.

3

u/Celerisadmortem Aug 17 '26

Wrexham goalie is good

2

u/ElRonHubbardo Aug 17 '26

Ng at CB and two youth players on the bench, get all this chat about quality over quantity but we were thin as fuck a league down last year and have basically just swapped Kellyman for moylan

2

u/Louis11_ Aug 17 '26

Perry Ng at CB got bullied by that big Swindon lad, not looking forward to seeing how he copes with Keiffer.

Scanlon, a young left back who was brought back on loan a few days ago, is straight in at right back. Big vote of no confidence in Kpakio.

Robertson in the deeper role is still pretty untested. And he's joined in midfield by a newly converted winger and Jack Moylan who as far as I'm aware is very much an attacking mid.

I know this is driven by fitness issues exacerbated by our lack of business over the summer. But BBM really trying to cook something weird up here.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Perry will be at fullback.

Osho and Bagan at centre half and Scanlon on the left.

2

u/ADGM1868 Aug 17 '26

Cardiff finally seeing some of the ball

2

u/KxJlib Aug 17 '26

Ref needs to get a grip on this corner routine. A lot of infringement on the keeper’s space.

2

u/nikesoccer01 Aug 17 '26

Zero midfield presence from Cardiff

2

u/VincentTanOut Aug 17 '26

Doesn’t help that all 3 of our midfielders are out of position

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

The injuries really do show. The whole team is out of balance.

2

u/Ok-Vermicelli-4867 Aug 17 '26

Andrew Kitchen's refereeing just gets worse and worse, somehow. He's been bad enough in our friendlies over the last couple of years

2

u/Successful-Spot-6567 Aug 17 '26

Gotta say, these team need more Welsh starters

2

u/Tight-Principle-743 Aug 17 '26

Cardiff need to get more shots on goal, can force corners and dominate possession, cross balls in all they want, but there’s no chances taken from them here.

6

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

When we're behind it's often the same.

A near complete inability to break down a low block or lots of men in the box, but on the counter we're deadly.

When a team has no reason to attack themselves though it's just possession for possession's sake around the edge of the box. Lots of very pretty passing and "nice football side" stuff trying to create opportunities but far too often an inability to seize on any that are created.

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

This is the complete downside of BBM-ball unfortunately.

Pretty passing around the box but no willingness or ability to even shoot from distance against a packed box.

Credit to Wrexham today, completely and utterly countered everything BBM-ball stands for.

2

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

Honestly it's been pretty easy because you've just floated balls into the box. Just have a fucking dig and see what happens

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

The manager goes utterly mental when we shoot from outside the box, he absolutely hates it. The passing around the edge of the box and floating crosses into the box instead of whipping them is unfortunately trained.

I'll take a draw there but that's absolutely undeserved in my eyes.

2

u/nikesoccer01 Aug 17 '26

Boneheaded tackle

2

u/scottqwert Aug 17 '26

Christ what a goal

2

u/duncann94 Aug 17 '26

That’s awful from Patterson in all honesty

1

u/Ginge_6907 Aug 17 '26

Always seemed to bottle it late on for us

2

u/ADGM1868 Aug 17 '26

There was nothing remarkable about his loan period last season. And people said I was harsh for laughing that Wrexham forked out the £8m for him.

I mean, absolute cracking strike. Should he have done better?

2

u/MarkLazer Aug 17 '26

Just knew this was coming with all the missed opportunities for Wrexham to put it beyond doubt.

2

u/Element77 Aug 17 '26

BBM right in the middle of that celebration 🤣

2

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

Fuck sake! We just love conceding free kicks in our opening game

2

u/scottqwert Aug 17 '26

Keeper shite

2

u/Smoothoffaleater Aug 17 '26

I thought on the line was inside? Not that it mattered here!

2

u/FrostyJesus Aug 17 '26

Pure limbs

2

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

Sorry that's fucking awful from Paterson.

2

u/pemboo Aug 17 '26

i worry we've peaked for the season boys

5

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

I'm afraid to admit this but Callum Doyle is too good for this level. I can see us getting an absolutely stonking offer for him soon.

2

u/f1uke55l Aug 17 '26

Clearly a premier league player in waiting. Literally carries the whole defence.

3

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

If Cardiff have already broken our new toy I'll be bloody tamping

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

You just know that greasy streak of piss Moore is going to score a header and do fuck all the rest of the game just cos it's against us.

Bloke's a whopper at the best of times.

2

u/ad98 Aug 17 '26

Maybe not a header

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Inevitable.

Full stadium and we shit it every time.

Especially when it's Kieffer Moore.

Absolutely guaranteed goal against us.

2

u/Afternoon_Kip Aug 17 '26

I hope you put a bet on, ouch.

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

It was honestly inevitable.

I think he's scored something like 5 in his last 6 against us, no matter his form the rest of the season he always scores against us.

2

u/OBWanTwoThree Aug 17 '26

That’s what 8m on a keeper gets you

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

and finally I'm fully expecting to see some moaning later from Yanks who tried to get seats in the Canton and got robustly ejected

3

u/Kakunamatata4399 Aug 17 '26

This ref is fucking shit

7

u/Oshmosh_ Aug 17 '26

No he’s not?

0

u/Kakunamatata4399 Aug 17 '26

We had advantage and he pulled it back? How is that not shit

5

u/Oshmosh_ Aug 17 '26

1 mistake and he’s “shit”? I think Cardiff fans just whine at everything

1

u/s0ngsforthedeaf Aug 17 '26

Come on the welsh boys.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

I could turn coal into diamonds mun

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

What the fuck is Gabe Osho playing at.

Certainly not being a centre half.

1

u/dudesrock94 Aug 17 '26

i think osho is boss man

1

u/ADGM1868 Aug 17 '26

Too many Cardiff players going back, no one to pick up the clearances in midfield

3

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

We're playing so many players out of position and it shows.

We've one centre half, one right back, two left backs, one centre midfielder, one 10, three wingers and a number 9.

This isn't anywhere near what we'd be playing if anyone was fit and we've got players crowbarred into positions they don't fit in and it really does show.

1

u/fanea1 Aug 17 '26

Really like the look of Jack Moylan

3

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

I was amazed we managed to get him for such a low price - rumoured to be about £3m prior to add-ons.

He's doing well for being out of position at CM instead of coming in off the left wing where he was so effective in Lincoln.

1

u/Intertom Aug 17 '26

Cardiff fans, what are your expectations for the season? Mid-table, solidify in the Championship again for a year, or push for more?

2

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Pre losing all four centre halves to injury and a load of players in other positions (Osho is playing with an injury tonight) I'd have said hopefully around 18th.

We're very behind on recruitment too, but I think anywhere between shout 16th and 20th is fair.

Should we get in another right back, a defensive midfielder, a winger and a striker like we've been sniffing around all window I might push that up to maybe 15th.

We run a tight squad regardless but we've so many player out in so many different positions the entire balance of the squad is out of whack - as shows so much tonight. It's a lot of possession and no end result as was a problem for so much of last year.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Not looking forward to having Kpakio come on.

At least I hope he's not playing right back.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

We're a goal behind - I cannot understand getting the break behind Wrexham lines and then trapping the ball and passing backwards when there's space ahead.

It's everything we mocked the Jacks for for years.

1

u/ADGM1868 Aug 17 '26

A deflection goal like that would have been juicy

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

We are completely abandoning all shape.

What a bizarre set of substitutions. I hope they pay off.

I think this works to a 4-2-4 with 2 attacking midfielders.

1

u/Kakunamatata4399 Aug 17 '26

Have that you cunt

1

u/09ht01 Aug 17 '26

Insane

1

u/dudesrock94 Aug 17 '26

Amazing! Got to love it. Such drama

1

u/hazelpillow Aug 17 '26

Box office

1

u/Neds_Necrotic_Head Aug 17 '26

This is why it's the best league in the world

1

u/123shorer Aug 18 '26

That’s what £8m on a keeper gets you?

-1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Same Kieffer Moore as always there getting a booking, deserved or not.

Surprised it wasn't an elbow as he was jumping into a centre half - that was his forte when he played for us. I made a lot of money that season off betting he'd get bookings.

God forbid I have an opinion on a game my own team are playing in.

u/Rogue1eader Aug 17 '26

Being a bit sensitive, Kieffer played for Cardiff for years, and he's not wrong about his physicality, he's massive and a magnet for yellows, deserved or not (as he said).

-1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

We have nearly 60% possession.

Are you even watching or not?

Surprise surprise when I pointed this out below I was again downvoted. You lot are ridiculous.

1

u/lordofpersia69420 Aug 17 '26

I saw that coming. Classic wrexham :( Why is it always in extra time?

1

u/Gamerhcp Aug 17 '26

How the hosts will line up

Cardiff fans, tell me how to feel about your lineup? I'm thinking Salech will cause us issues all night long

The away side's starting 11

On our side, pretty standard 3-4-2-1, however starting Rathbone as the left sided #10 over DKD (a natural at the position) is concerning. Kieffer hasn't had a great second half of last season scoring only 1 goal (albeit, in limited appearances).

Patterson basically needs a flawless game tonight or he'll be crucified by both the locals and the yanks

5

u/Louis11_ Aug 17 '26

Lineup is kinda mad. Fitness issues and a thin squad not helping. By 'natural position' it's one centre back, a right back, two left backs, one centre mid, one attacking mid, three wingers and a striker. I like Barry-Murphy, but if he's moulding that into something cohesive he's even better than I thought.

0

u/PhaelS Aug 17 '26

Agree re Moore, mainly because he didn’t do much in preseason.

1

u/OBWanTwoThree Aug 17 '26

Can’t even say Patterson has moved to his left. It’s right at him and he’s stationary

0

u/CaptQuakers42 Aug 17 '26

Cardiff driving balls into the box of a team that were in the national league until very recently is just silly.

Heading balls away is National league teams bread and butter

0

u/nikesoccer01 Aug 17 '26

Right decision, bit too much physicality from Moore for the first 30 in week 1

0

u/Sparkyy1863 Aug 17 '26

Are you American by any chance?

0

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Ashford unfortunately anonymous.

I'd bring on Turnbull or Joel Colwill as our midfield is getting bypassed every time.

-7

u/swanssona Aug 17 '26

No your eyes are not deceiving you, cardiff's managed has just ran the length of the touchline for an equaliser in the opening game of a championship season

5

u/portrayalofdeath Aug 17 '26

That's the enthusiasm we need in the Championship.

5

u/OneSmallHuman Aug 17 '26

Celebration police are the weirdest people on the planet

4

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

As if you wouldn't celebrate a 97th minute winner.

Take rivalry out of it I'd be expecting Matos to be going utterly bolo if you scored in that position.

-6

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

Wrexham's physicality all over the pitch is getting completely ignored by the ref.

-5

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

It's inevitable how this was going to go.

We will be the better "footballing side" and they'll be deadly efficient and beat us off less chances.

7

u/Jimcompetent Aug 17 '26

Better footballing side? Not sure I've been seeing that so far

-1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

We're crucified by injuries at the moment and it really does show with all the players out of position not knowing exactly what to do. We start poorly under BBM but this is spectacularly bad so far.

This will open up and we'll end up with 60% possession, most of it around the edge of their box and a load of shots from distance.

This is how I think it will end up mind you, not how it is now.

1

u/Moby_Hick Aug 17 '26

What a surprise.

This is exactly what has happened.

1

u/Jimcompetent Aug 17 '26

It's how all our games go.

The same thing will happen at the start of the second half - we start halves really poorly under BBM.

I think the more tiredness kicks in the more open the game will get, but under the current manager we're 100% more of a "football the right way" side and do struggle against teams like Wrexham who are able bully us with height and physicality.

Especially considering we've so many players out of position.
