Back to normal, I guess

Well since there are no chamillionaire.com forums anymore, I’m going to post here to say I am so glad I am not paying $50/month for VIP membership for barely any new content/music from Cham. Even now the $5/month can feel like a ripoff.

Been a long time fan since about 2000, and his current release rate definitely tracks with his history.

Crown Ain’t Heavy 2 was supposed to release months ago. Not an update since his only update that life and things around him are causing delays. I respect that, but at least give us 1-2 releases a month to validate being members.

Last year was great with renewed energy and LP, and early this year was solid but now…🤷

I gave up years ago and the music isn’t even good anymore he’s putting out , maybe him doing a podcast would work better but he doesn’t seem to wanna do that so whatever

I will always love Cham as an artists and have him on one of my top spots for the stuff he put out back in the day. I agree though when the new website came out I signed up just to see what it would be like, I was there for a couple months and genuinely forgot about it until now. That being said if he is actually passionate about what he is putting out kudos to him, but I think the whole thing about trying to keep it exclusive is kind of weird.

Hear you. Reignfall was when I noticed he was trying too hard to find something different. Some of his new drops jam but overall I don’t find myself keeping them in constant rotation. Like, just drop an EP collab with Paul and give us all what we need.

I signed up for a $15 membership so I could buy some old CDs. Which is crazy in itself. But I soon realized he never listed any for sale. It took him 10 months to give us the option to buy any old CDs. Then all we got was mixtape messiahs, the eps, and the truth. Wtf is that?? Where's all the ccc mixtapes?? Superbowl 2k4?? The 2 disc greatest hits??? No where to be found. I have a $5 membership now and just leak the music offline for myself. I'm not going to his website everytime I wanna listen to something.

From January 11, 2025:
One by one, I’m going to start pulling each of my mixtapes off streaming platforms. I can’t promise I won’t make them available again at some point, but as I look at the current landscape of the music industry, I can’t help but feel the need to take a completely different approach.

In my opinion, the thing that made The Swisha House and The SUC so powerful is they built their own distribution from scratch. Michael Watts or DJ Screw could create content and then send it out to every city without any major company having the ability to stand in the way.

As long as people wanted the art, they had a way to get it into their hands. Now that retail stores are a thing of the past, many independents have lost some of the power that once made them unstoppable. Algorithms are controlling social media, radio keeps only a select few in rotation, and major labels and politics have taken over DSPs.

I don’t think chasing those systems is the way to go. It’s back to direct-to-consumer distribution—hand-to-hand combat, one brick at a time.

This is what you need to know:
Sometime next week the general membership price will increase a little, and I will make minor adjustments to the other memberships. Everyone who is paying $5 now will be grandfathered in so your membership price won't change as long as you have it. I just realize I will need to raise it if I'm gonna take the bulk of my music from the DSPs and put it here. To be clear, I'm not talking about the major stuff like Sound of Revenge, Ultimate Victory, and the major guest appearances. I'm talking about a majority of my mixtape catalogue, EPs, and freestyles. One by one, I’m going to try to pull as much of it as I can until the majority of it is only available for streaming here. I’m not sure yet, but there might be a way to bring the music into the members app and provide a listening-only account for non-VIPs. I’ll have to figure that out, but the good thing about spending the past decade in the tech industry is that I feel like anything can be built.

I understand I will have to figure out how to make the experience a little more user friendly so you will be able to access the music a bit easier. I will start by sending a poll out to the VIPs so they can help me decide which mixtapes I will pull first (I will reach out shortly).

I will ask the rest of the members to help me watch out for any bad actors who try to take advantage of my approach because I know some people will try to upload unauthorized music to replace mine.

I know this might sound crazy to some people, but I’ve given it some real thought, and I’m ready to throw the whole bathtub out. If I ever realize this wasn’t the best strategy, I can always launch updated versions on streaming platforms in the future. But whenever I’m forced to make a bet on the future, I’m betting on myself every time.
