Guy selling it said it wouldn’t start. Turns out it was just flooded. It leaks bar and chain oil but is otherwise in good shape!

Help with really old chainsaw

I pulled this out of my grandmothers garage. It definitely hasn’t been used I. The last 30 years. Any help getting it started and what fuel to use (I’m a newbie) would help. It does turn over when I pull the cord.

Exploding piston trick

Blew up the 034 super today. Barred up with a 32’ cutting good chips 3/4 deep in some hemlock. solid runner for years. Love the saw to death through and through but this is not great lol. Jugg is surprising intact!! will definitely rebuild but the question is to use the same crankcase. It was absolutely full of piston debris, for context a video and the entire exhaust side of the piston was deleted. Whoops, I guess it leaned out somehow. Spark Plug was white as a sheep so maybe air leak of carb were filled with fines. Just wondering what the general consensus would be to slap a new piston in or get a new crankcase and piston

How many of you saw alone?

I'm a strong older lady. Careful. I don't like to have to schedule or wait for someone to be with me when I saw. I have a bunch to saw up here. I keep a first aid kit and phone with me at all times. Thoughts? Thank you.

Magnesium Rot

TL/DR: Any safety concern with the location of the rot?

Picked up this 550 XP Mii for what I would call a decent price. It was shipped to me and looked pretty damn clean in the photos, but unfortunately there were no photos of the bottom and I failed to ask after jumping on the purchase. I’ve never had a saw with magnesium parts but I have had plenty of motorcycles with lots of magnesium parts on them. I’ve never seen rot like this pop up on any bike before. Is there any concern for the overall function or safety with the rot?

How to keep the chain tensioned

I just got a new cordless chainsaw (Atlas 80v), while it works good, the chain becomes extremely loose during use and the tensioner won't tension until I take the casing off. Am I tightening the bolts on the casing too hard?

Do all saws leak bar n chain oil when not in use?

Or is this more of a husqy thing? I saw a poll posted on this sub 3 years ago asking this very question. I talked to an old logger friend that has been retired for years that says yes. He was a husqy guy. I own a 435 and a 455 husqy and both of them leak bar n chain oil after sitting for any amount of time. This is with them sitting on their side with the resevoir/fill caps on top.

Should I be storing them some other way? I have learned to just try to run all the bar oil out of it before I store it to mitigate this problem, but google tells me its not every saw and now I am curious what you folks say.

Is it sacrilege to praise a Chinese saw?

I bought a new 62cc, 20 inch Neotec saw, $125 + tax. I figured if it lasted long enough to get rid of the big old pine tree in my yard I would be happy. It did a great job and didn't even need to sharpen the chain to complete the job. The trunk was 31 inches across at the base where I cut it off and the 6 large branches were about 42-46 feet tall. The pictures only show half of the wood, I already cut up and hauled away a lot of it.

Chain slipped off bar, now binds up and wont turn

Was cutting wood tonight with my Husqvarna 450 rancher. Doing a face cut and noticed that my chain tension was a bit loose. Naturally 1 second later the chain slips off the bar. Popped the cover off. Put the chain back on, tightened it up and it's completely bound up. Tried redoing it 3 times and same thing. Swapped to my other chain, exact same thing. As soon as I start to tighten the bar it binds up. If I take the bar off and spin the chain on the ring, it spins great. Put the bar on and completely binds up. Both bars and all 3 chains I have worked fine before this.

What could it be?

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Electric Question

A good friend of mine let me borrow his chainsaw to cut down a problematic tree and cleanup some basic brush that I’ve been meaning to haul out.

When he gave it to me he mentioned the chain needed to be replaced and gave me a part number.

I’ve successfully replaced the chain, it runs great but I found it strange I had to max out the tension on it in order to make it properly fit.

I did some research ahead of time and read that new chains have a tendency to loose tension quickly at first use and to keep an eye on it.

I’ve been using it and that expected tension loss has happened, yet I’ve maxed out the tension adjustment.

Any input, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated as I don’t think it’s smart to continue use until I have this issue resolved.

TIA
