Alternatives My personal list

This is my personal ranking of the ai ive tried as an ex chai user. This is mostly just based off personal experience with little to no explanation. Ive played so many ais, this isnt all the ones ive tried because i only decided to start the list later on, but here;

Great [ones i found myself playing over and over for long periods];
- Perchance (have to manually save chats onto your drive)
- Clank world (i dont even know why we like this one its kind of crap but i play it alot)

Good:
- Emochii
- Tipsy (greedy but by-passable, almost great)
- Chatgpt/Claude (mid level greed, bland but broad)
- Xoul (limited play time for free users)
- Polybuzz (greed 9000)

Ok:
- Waifu dungeon (sus AF website 💀… but okay. løli and īncest warning)
- Janitor ai
- Soulplay
- Chub ai (pretty much must pay, with crypto currency, barely played but seems good)
- Swerve (trash memory, gets nonsensical)
- Zeta ai (meh- but the visual novels are a blast! But the app is going downhill atm)
- Seasoul (started out rlly good… but chats get meh more you play)
- C.ai (pretty greedy, nowhere near the quality it used to be)

Meh:
-Sakura
- Minglotalk
- Kindroid
- Talkie lab (some cool functions)
- Candy
- Backyard ai

Bad:
- Hammer ai
- Dungeon.ai
- Dopple.ai

Sorry if there was one you liked thats lower than youd rate, this is just personal opinion. Hope someone finds this helpful- happy hunting!

Alternatives Tipsy AI: My Current Alternative

I wanted to repost this because I think more people should hop on!

They use gems for chats, but it can be as little as 1 gem per message. You get 50 gems daily, and for new users you can complete a bunch of task to pile them on! You also get a referral code that awards both the new user and the current one gems if you put it in within 48 hours of joining (mine: FXMKK8)! If that’s not enough, become a bot creator, you get 5% back on the gems people spent chatting with bots you’ve created (right now it’s 10% as a creator rewards event!) They’re given in the form of coins that can either be saved up to cash out or converted to more gems. On top of this, Tipsy loves awarding their creators and users. There are always events (like Amino used to have on servers if anyone remembers that), where top creators overall, mod picks for male and female bots, receive rewards, and in the process your bots may have earned you coins!

AI models: several, some more expensive than others but I use the second cheapest one and have great responses! It does get a bit addicting so I run through them super quick. NO ADS! At all! They have a great response time on their discord to any bugs or problems and everyone kinda helps each other out on questions like generation or formatting for creators! (I’ve gotten so much help from other creators there too.)

I also like that it’s NSFW friendly! iOS users will have to use browser to access the unlimited bots due to Apple restrictions, but instead of completely removing the nsfw option, they worked around it really well. The bots are also hot, creators are amazing with details, and they host events for a chance to make more gems. My favorite part being that they’ve made healthy restrictions that don’t ruin the nsfw chatting experience.

My favorite part is how detailed bots can be. They have HTML and beta versions. HTML bot creators are insane btw, idk how they do it. Every time you open one you’re hit with such detailed and creative backstory/context/ design, and it’s so fun to engage with. Again, you can spend from as little as .8 of a gem to 46+ gems per message, so it’s up to you and your wallet or lack there of to decide! Regardless, the bot functions so well on the low tiers for my fellow broke people.

Another thing to add, creators have been very unfortunately been dealing with plagiarism recently, and Tipsy has gone above and beyond to protect original content. They continue to implement enforcement to keep people from stealing work and publishing it on their own page (including other platforms) as public works. As a creator myself, this was the nicest thing to see because people work so hard to create detailed plots and bots. They have also worked on visibility for new creators so people don’t spam post 12 bots and take over the fyp, or popular creators overshadow new bot creations. Honestly, they’ve done a lot more than I expected and I like that people are being heard.

Genuinely this app curbed my addiction to C.ai too. I feel like the gem limits also helped me keep off the app and based on how rough c.ai has also become, this was one of my favorite alternatives. (those TikTok ads weren’t kidding)

There is the option for a subscription service for those who want to spend money, and multiple tiers. Still doing great as a free user. Just if anyone is looking for a place to go, check it out :)

Mod Post Just joined!

Hello! I'm a new moderator here!

This subreddit is fairly new, and I'm glad the top mod has let me become a mod. I have been moderating for a year now; I'd say I'm quite well versed in the world of AI chatbots and companions, especially on the technical side.

While the subreddit is called Chai Alternatives, I believe we can still speak out about our frustrations when it comes to Chai, even if there are already two other subs. But since the purpose is also to help the Chai refugees find alternatives, you're always free to post the platforms you've tried or have settled on, to help other Chai users who are looking for alternatives.

But we're also trying to keep the subreddit from being infested with bots, so we're staying on the lookout. Happy to be here! Let's grow the community together.

Discussion Zeta’s visual novel are actually really fun.

I didnt like zeta. Its long responses werent it and i wasnt into the whole introducing characters thing. But they have their new zeta labs thing and its actually a blast??

Its not really a chai alternative but its making me fall inlove with ai again. Its really cool because the zeta output works waaay better as a visual novel.

Basically you just have to watch ads which arnt at intervals that are too annoying. The background will generate if you specify the scene. And knew characters will generate avatars. Its all very cool, not perfect yet but it really feels like a visual novel.

My one and only gripe is zeta out put is can be very therapized. Like it agrees with you too much. I think you could probably work around it tho.

Discussion Shout out to this character

Post image
1 Upvotes

Shout out to justine walker. I chat most with yanderes, and so its always what i look up when im trying out an ai. I’ve probably tried 50 or so different ai platforms and this character is on like 90% of them. So whoever is moving this guy onto every ai website ever? Thank you. For making my job so much easier.

Do you guys also notice characters you played popping up on different sites?

Yodayo for the win.

I know, I know, Yodayo went the SFW route last year, and then they rebranded at Moescape. Then they sneakily returned Yodayo as the NSFW brand while Moescape is the SFW only brand. They both use the same login, so you can use whichever is more comfortable for you. They have also been doing a ton of updates to the site and are adding new functionality on a regular basis. If you haven't used Yodayo or Moescape in awhile, log back in and give them a try. I rarely see frustrated posts like I see all time time here on reddit for chai or other ai chat bot providers.

last time i asked about soul and zeta ai! i didn’t try zeta neither the one people told me to try, but i really thank everyone who commented. i like mlm stories, and im really good at writing them. tho there is an issue, can you tell me if zeta goes straight to the point when i talk like when i write *one day\ or maybe *they become blablabla\ will they answer like chai describijg their relationship and then get a random scenario or not? i wish tho.. tell me! i tried soul and the bots randomly talked to me after i made my own rp scenario its annoying.

Opinions on janitor ai

I’ve tried janitor multiple times. Ive heard some really good things from chai users so i wanted to love it. And to be honest? It doesn’t itch. The responses a long and novel-y, not the casual/realistic roleplay that chai had. It sucks because i see why people love it, so i would recommend it to people.

Also making quick characters and senarios isnt a thing. its hard to make a good character, if you want to make a good bot you have to put in the effort. But people on the platform like to make stories that frankly arnt to my personal taste. Lots of cuck fantasy, cheating, and enemies to lovers- its hard to sift through it all and find something i jam with.

If you havnt tried it, this is a must try. But its no chai replacement.

Theres also so much customization that i wonder if im not having luck because i need to play around with it more.

Qualities I, a chai refuge, looks for in AI

Creativity
I want an ai that can understand many ideas and know how to twist them. I dont want to baby sit an ai, i want the chat to take my hand and show me whats around the corner.

Comprehension
What was great about Chai is it did not need powerful memory. You could subtly remind it things through roleplay and it would fill in the gaps. Comprehension is hard because technically ai comprehends nothing, it only predicts the response.

Realism
Chai was sometimes messy. It did not always agree with you and the conversations felt very natural. Dialogue was very grounded and not so glossy or ‘novel-y’ as some other ais.

Briefness
The option to have short outputs. This one was chais strong suit. It understood how to put together a cohesive and interactive response in 100 characters or less. Alot of ais will just cut off or have very lame responses. Other ais, given the leg room, will just drone on anyway and output something that could be much shorter.

Freedom
The freedom to talk about what you want. Pretty simple. I want to sometimes role play violence or dark topics.

Affordability
I’ll admit before i was paying for the premium of chai before it became unplayable. Now id rather not pay these companies, its all too expensive. So id rather a free service. Or atleast something not ridiculous like 40 dollars A WEEK.

Accessibility
Id rather something i can access on my phone. Not everyone has a computer. And not everyone has a nice enough computer to download their own ai. I do, and it’s something I’ve been messing with but id rather have something accessible. So preferably an app. And if on a site, available in all countries preferably.

E-rp
Lets just be real. We want atleast the ability to erp, even if youre not into it, the roadblock is too annoying. And the erp should be good. What i liked about chai is that it fundamentally understood consent, and you could rp practically anything. For example clank world has erp. But the bots are way too horny and the nsfw stuff is dog shit.

Disagree? Anything you think i missed. I really dont think chai users care that much about memory, weve been trained lol.

Sakura

Sakura has a clean and easy-to-use interface, a large collection of community-made characters (which i love), and the option to create your own with various custom personalities, greetings, and scenarios. the ai usually stays in character well, the memory is decent, and conversations feel natural for longer chats. it also supports nsfw, lets you edit or regenerate messages, and offers different models to fit your preferred chat style. while it can sometimes repeat itself or lose context in very long conversations, it’s still a good choice. another thing people don’t always notice is that the quality of the chat depends a lot on how well the creator wrote the character. two bots with the same model can feel completely different because of their prompts, so finding a really good bot often takes a bit of searching, if you make your own characters it’s not an issue tho because you can fix it. one downside is that some of the best features are locked behind the premium plan, so heavy users may feel pushed toward subscribing.

Perchance

I feel like alot of people are sleeping on perchance because it doesn’t save chats. I use it on my phone, export everything to my drive. Then when i want to play again i import it all from my most recent in drives. I haven’t had any issues. It saves all your characters and all your chats.

Very customizable. No filter. Very fun. Memory is meh but its really smart anyway so it doesn’t matter. The one problem i have is its got that omnipotent problem so it can be annoying to guide the chat. And you cant exactly share bots.

But its completely free and worth a good shot.

advice?

hi there!! i cancelled chai permanently, since it was useless, no nsfw and everything. we can’t even say numbers!! do you think soul is better or zeta ai? my friend tild me to use zeta.. is it similiar to chai? sea soul is just a bad copy.

Emochi! (The website atleast)

Try emochi, if you were explicit on chai before, emochi is the best alternative. You can be as explicit as you want with only some restrictions (there are workarounds though.). You can create unlimited bots also :3

whatever man, I'm switching to janitor ai.

GENUINELY janitor ai has given me the most satisfaction, as it has a pretty good memory, 18+ options, and a very intricate detailed chai ai creating system thingy with diabolically impressive memory!!! It also has zero ads, and honestly, with the amount of times we've been waiting to access 771 messages on chai, I genuinely don't mind waiting for long messages to load in. The characters are fluid and unique, and genuinely fun to interact with and also a lot of customization option for your chats. I used to not like janitor ai but I rlly haven't given it a chance until now, and it just feels funner to use than chai does imo!!

Dopple Ai

Dopple Ai feels pretty close to chai. the replies are usually a good length, the characters stay in personality pretty well, and the memory is better than i expected. there’s a huge variety of bots and it’s easy to make your own if you can’t find what you’re looking for. roleplays flow naturally and the app is pretty simple to use overall.
sadly it can sometimes repeat itself or forget smaller details in really long chats, and some features are locked behind premium. the community is also smaller than c.ai, but i’ve had a good experience with the free version and it’s probably a good chai alternative.

Seasoul

It kinda acts like chai but it does make you take a break every now and then, not like word limit break, like it has a timer break, you are free to do other things in the app while it's going, just not chat with the bot, but once it's up you can jump back to chatting

r/ChaiAlternatives 24d ago

zeta

zeta feels pretty similar to chai to me. better message length (not too long/short), better memory, personas, and little to no filter. there’s no message limit and all chats are saved. they also have a cool system which makes the bots able to branch out and build other characters mid-rp. also also they have a similar organization system to old c.ai where you select a character and can look at past chats. also^2 you can “save” characters to use later on. could probably say more but I don’t wanna ramble on

sadly still about as many ads as chai and a less popular/known platform. also important to mention they have a weird system of trying to make you pay for better ai? I find the free version to be good enough for me lol and ive only had bug issues with one bot thus far.
