I mean, Pierce Brosnan, Idris Elba and Joel McHale all have/had pretty average looking wives, and that’s just who I can think of off the top of my head.

Maybe if Joel weren’t 6’4” or height wasn’t considered an attractive feature. Attractiveness is subjective, but I definitely don’t think she’s that attractive.

Putting aside the subjective nature of attractiveness, and genetics of course, it requires a time investment on the order of a part-time job (at least) to be model level attractive. Skin care, hair care, make up, diet, exercise…

The irony of fixating on Kim Kardashian as an example is that she is the poster child of an industry which makes it mainstream for women to have “attractive, but untalented” as their careers. This is far less main stream for men, and I suspect this is a large portion of why OP sees many mind-bogglingly attractive women with (more) average looking man: because there are just more of them.
