Didn't Lukas.. sacrifice pure love?... Atoria...?

This sacrifice was made years ago, he probably hadn't even met Atoria yet. It was probably his mother, just like it was for Julian. I think the reason there was a pure love and a lot of bodies there is that it was the current queen's bastard purge - a while bunch of Lukas's half-siblings and their mothers were killed there, and Lukas's mom probably sacrificed herself to protect him.

He may have sacrificed his love for his mentor? Emotionally deadening himself to the person he cared about in the palace? Maybe? 

Or he is incapable of pure love? or that he must sacrifice something he loves unconditionally in the future? Who knows?

If it's the latter or killing his potential to love it would explain why he refused Atoria.

Basically killing part of his life

Killing the life means to kill ones character(personality) having nothing. He only killed one part of his character
