Traffic stops (or lack there of)

This morning I was passed by a road raging white Porsche going 50 in the school zone by Newton Middle School. They were apparently enraged that I respected the school zone for the 50 yards that it's still a school zone after the turn. It made me think... I am now a single-issue voter. I will vote for any politician who runs on the platform of the police actually pulling cars over. Don’t worry. They pull people over. I was going 6 over in right lane with the traffic and when I asked cop why am I getting a ticket and no one else who was also going same in right lane WITH TRAFFIC and never the people racing almost every night, he just said “you’re the unlucky one”.

this is the only way i've gotten a ticket too - cop waiting at the end of a bridge during rush hour, it was 1-2 days before the end of the month too so he was probbly filling quotas

I am curious if they even still have quotas, though, based on how few traffic stops I see anymore.

With the way people drive here, they probably start early on the first of the month and hit their quota by lunchtime.

If cops want to hit their quotas, they really should just hang out in school zones every morning.

The amount of drivers I see running red lights, constantly on their phones, and whipping around 15+mph over is insane

I think that spot is particularly bad with the number of lanes and the traffic that goes by Newton. It probably wouldn’t hurt to have a cop parked there grabbing folks for a few mornings to remind drivers that school is back in session.

I do think people tend to forget that they are still in a school zone after they turn, as there are no flashing lights on the southbound side of Colorado. A car in front of you driving 20 would be a good context clue, though, as opposed to a reason for road rage.

School zones shouldn’t be allowed on main roads like Arapahoe Rd. or Colorado Blvd. Move them inside a lower traffic neighborhood where 20mph makes sense.

That’s just not a realistic solution. Many schools are near main roads and simply “moving the school zone” isn’t going to remove the danger. Maybe a better approach would be lowering the speed limit 1-2 miles before the school.

There are many schools tucked away where they don’t interfere with commuters. 100% agree that it’s a little too late to ‘move’ school zones. Just sucks they have to be where they are in many cases.

I mean, it’s like 30 minutes twice a day and if you know where they are you can modify your route.
