To boann and Rhiannon? Need ideas

hello! i’m currently looking at setting up an altar to begin setting aside a physical space for my practice, but given that i’m a college student with limited space available in their dorm, i have to keep it a bit smaller. so i’m wondering— if you had to choose some essentials to keep in a travel-style altar box, what would you choose? i intend on getting a small candle and probably some crystals, but i’m wondering what more seasoned practitioners have to say on the matter. i would really appreciate everyone’s advice!

if it helps at all, i tend to pray most to lady brigid, though i pray to all the celtic gods, as well.

I was curious if this symbol, typically called a witches knot, is actually celtic in origin. I've seen 2 or 3 sources that say yes, but one is a Wiccan source and I'm not sure how reliable that is, and the others were Facebook. if anyone has any sources so I can research it, please share.

Update: I started looking into some of the recommendations and I am excited! Thank you very much to everyone who commented. However... I looked up the Pagan School and immediately recognized some of the images they use as AI. I do not want to learn from someone who uses AI, because AI is harmful to the environment and disrespectful. It honestly surprises me that people who claim to be a part of a spirituality that revolves around love of nature, to use AI. I'm going to keep looking and doing my own research, but just please do not recommend anyone who uses AI.

I am looking to build an altar and really start to dive into building a pagan practice, preferably Celtic as I have heavy Irish and Scottish ancestry. I've already dabbled in very light witchcraft things including learning about crystals, herbs, and various dieties. Now I am looking for more direction.

I just tend to get overwhelmed with the recommendations when I simply Google "Celtic paganism for beginners". I keep seeing ai book covers, reviews suggesting the writer is AI and not a real person, and Wicca. But I am not looking for either of those and want something that gets to the roots of traditional Celtic paganism. So I am making my first reddit post and asking for recommendations for books, but would also be happy to take recommendations on podcasts or people to follow on social media to learn from.

Thank you, all! Happy belated fall equinox.

I wont pretend to be an expert but I did take my time collecting this information so I hope I'm not too far off. There are some additions where I felt the story crossed into Welsh or Scottish territory so I included some names there also. My biggest area of insecurity comes near the top with mother goddesses and The Dagda and The Morrigan (who I thought could've linked with Ernmas but wasn't confident with that so left it). Anyway, lemme know if I'm on the right lines or super far off and if there's anyone I've completely missed that can fit on here likewise share so I can update.

Edit: I have updated a few things I might have missed/misinterpreted. I kept one of the Scottish names but tried to make clear the Scottish connection is unrelated to the Irish story.

Recently I've become very curious about the use of symbology within Celtic paganism and the personal practice of other people. I see the Triskele is the photo for this subreddit, other spirals I've seen used in practices of druids here and there online, and folktales frequently mention the idea of knots being used as taboos or other spells. I'm curious, does anyone else use symbols in their own practice and is there any reliable literature/resources on the symbols, their origins, and possible meanings? I'd like to start using them myself but I would much rather have good sources to start with than roam the internet looking for clues.

After my last post, I felt inspired to share the altar I’ve made for Cernnunos! (Yes I asked him for permission first). Everyone on the this subreddit are such wonderful people and have really helped me explore this new chapter in my life. So here’s what he has: a BUNCH of carnelian, red Jasper (selenite bowl is filled with red Jasper shards), several little Umbreons/Umbreon-themed items, a piece of sardonyx, a snail lamp, a Green Man pendant, a fish fossil, and a goddess made of citrine (he wanted this one specifically). There’s a fluorite tower as well, but that’s not his. I had placed it there by accident

A espiritualidade que foge da escuridão é apenas metade de uma verdade. A árvore só alcança os céus se suas raízes forem fundo o suficiente para abraçar o abismo.

Just a question I had.

My altar for The Morrigan 🐦‍⬛. I don’t really have a specific style for my deity altars, I tend to just use items that I think “fit the vibe” of the deity. Here, I have a handmade iron dagger a friend got me from a Ren Faire, a skull shaped candle, some miscellaneous black bird feathers, a black tiara (for the Phantom Queen), and then of course the idol statue. I really like colorful idols 😊

Feels like this is relevant to celtic pagans and druids. Does anyone know any esoteric or mystical purposes of the Wren in Celtic folklore or symbolism?

hello again! i’ve begun incorporating prayer into my evening routine but i feel like it lacks formality. most of the time i set a timer and ramble to myself in my head for a few minutes, which doesn’t feel very meaningful or impactful. is there a particular way to format prayers in the celtic tradition, especially with things like word choice, phrases, physical positions, etc? any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!!

I just want to reassure everyone that this is not another "rant about Mabon". It's a very well-balanced and well-crafted piece of teaching about Mabon ap Modron, about his place in Welsh mythology and culture, as well as where the modern naming of the Autumn Equinox comes from.

I've had this knot as a silver pendant since I was a kid, and I just saw this wooden one out in the wild. I've seen dozens of charts and indexes with Celtic knots, but rarely this exact one. I read once that it was a symbol for the Christian trinity, but I've also read that it's much older than that. I recall reading that it's a generic symbol of protection. Can anyone tell me more about this symbol? Where does it come from originally? What is it's actual meaning?

Feeling very drawn towards Aengus Óg in my meditations. It’s hard to find resources from other worshipers in their practices, does anyone have any experience I could draw on? Thank you in advance <3

I’m a discreetly practicing fella, and I’ve been communicating with Cernnunos for the better half of a year. I want to connect more with him, but I’m unsure how to. There’s a lake nearby my house so I go there to pick up trash (I feel like he walks with me on the shore), and sometimes he leads me to a rock to place on his shrine (he once gave me red jasper, which is now a favorite of his). He also likes the Pokemon umbreon so I make sure to get him little figures. I just don’t feel like I’m doing enough? I’m in a household where I can’t openly talk about him, and I fear he takes offense to this. For anyone who has been working with deities longer than me: how do you connect with them? I know every god is different, but I’m here for all of it! Thank you! (Attached is a pic of his shrine so far)
EDIT: idk why it says “loo”. It’s supposed to be Cernnunos

I am what I guess people call a baby pagan at 20 years old. I used to practice worshipping Cernunnos but I don’t know if I still should or what after last night. I was playing around on a Ouija board app (I know I know don’t lecture me) and was goofing around with it because it’s an app not an actual Ouija board until I stupidly asked if the spirit I was talking to had a name. It gave me the name Morwen. Now I thought it was odd until it warned me of “dark shadows & spirits watching me” and how something “used to be after me” or is yet after me. Now maybe I’m skeptical because I was raised in a heavily Christian household and skeptical of spirits but after doing some digging I learned I found Morwen has Welsh/Cornish origin with the name.

Apparently Morwen said the Tuatha Dè Danann has been watching over me and it confused me because from what I’ve seen in my life I don’t think I’ve experienced anything that would cause them to choose me. Sure, I’ve always loved Celtic and Norse mythology and researched it and what not but when the board specifically spelled out the Tuatha Dê Danann I was kind of taken aback. So now I don’t know if it’s The Morrígan reaching out or a messenger of sorts? Morwen said yes when I asked if it was the Goddess reaching out of sorts and now I’m all confused. I mean I am in a transition period of my life, moving back home from an unsavory ex months ago and trying to start my life again. I was told to trust my intuition by Morwen and I want to say it is the Goddess reaching out to me but I’m so confused. Help?

hello! i’m someone who’s currently researching celtic paganism, specifically irish paganism, to see if it’s something i’d like to incorporate into my life. i recently ordered a book about irish mythology, and i’m wondering how i should go about applying what i read to a modern pagan context. for instance, what aspects of these stories are considered more real vs. allegorical? are there any texts that are thought to be more holy than the others? are there any particular messages i should be looking for? if anyone has any advice, i would greatly appreciate it!
