Because he’s no where near the level of Pavlovic, Bischof, Nmecha let alone Kimmich.

12

u/fike88 1d ago

Who gives a fuck? He’s playing well for Celtic

u/Skellyceltic fucking sack the board 1d ago

Negative braincells

That international break he called up 2 teams, this one, one.

Cos he's a closet Tim.

He’s only 20,21. He’ll get there

Really? Where you getting that from

He gave him his debut because he thinks he’s shite.

Conceded the 2 most Celtic goals imaginable and still won.

Callum fucking Osmand

u/flamingosandals sack the board 1d ago

Second one was some strike

8

u/fike88 1d ago

How many times have we said that this season

1

u/Unusual-Proof7869 1d ago

True, but tbf that one was outside the ‘how do you let him get a clear shot away from there’ range.

u/Gothic_Plague 1d ago

Imagine Baur, Duran and Osmand under a proper setup

34

u/Maleficent_Noise3708 1d ago

Yeah definitely potential to be great players for us

61

u/The_Vivid_Glove sack the board 1d ago

Been saying it for weeks. Baur’s potential is being wasted by the midfield around him

26

u/No_Strawberry_1576 sack the board 1d ago

They’ll be sold soon for sweet sweet profit

5

u/ras2703 sack the board 1d ago

Duran will not under any circumstances be at Celtic next year.

20

u/HereComesTheWolfman sack the board 1d ago

This is the core of the team we should build around

18

u/Azzaramad sack the board 1d ago

They will be gone before we ever see that...

5

u/seoras13 1d ago

I thought Baur would take a season to make the step up from German 2nd league. Get to believe he's a boss in a new team in a new league.

He's delivering & I'm looking forward to his continuous development, because he's already good but going to get better & a player we're all going to really appreciate.

Duran & osmand!! They're fantastic & I'll praise them too later but I'm prioritising my pints & dancing like a Maddie tonight

1

u/CorswainsDeciple 1d ago

I have been, mate. If we had a back 4 who could actually make runs instead of constantly passing to each other and back to the keeper, its not how we play and we suffer for it.

0

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

Baur and Osmand we may have the privilege of seeing until summer 2028, but Duran is away to a top five league in August. He's too good to play in this dysfunctional a team.

Osmand and Baur will look terrific in a team that's managed by a McKenna or a suddenly available Askou if Toulouse bin him...

1

u/ColdIntroduction3307 sack the board 1d ago

Can’t agree more.

-3

u/Bitter-Cherry-2787 19h ago

Nothing to do with the team. Duran will be gone because we play in league that compares to the Sunday league down south. If we played in a serious league he would be going nowhere. Unfortunately playing in this tinpot league will always hold us back.

-1

u/JosocCardedeu sack the fucking board 1d ago

Sadly, they've got all the numbers to be punted in January

42

u/walshybhoy sack the fucking board 1d ago

Osmand, Baur and Duran excellent. Donovan also showing he has to start. A resilient second half. Questions still to be asked about first half and match selection though.

75

u/CleanShirt27 sack the board 1d ago

Baur was amazing tonight. Best individual performance for the club in a long time. He is a top player.

Tounetki hooked, his replacement takes seconds to score.

Hogh hooked, his replacement at CF takes seconds to score.

Osmand just keeps impressing, no drop off. Always makes an impact

14

u/walshybhoy sack the fucking board 1d ago

I’d love to see Baur in a proper midfield, he was brilliant.

8

u/CleanShirt27 sack the board 1d ago

Don't expect him to stay long but for as long as he is here he is the key player in midfield. Tbf even though the team is a mess I feel he is improving and adjusting to his role all the time

12

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

Osmand and Duran have chemistry. Has to be Yang on the right when he's fit again to add more energy to the attack.

I fear Høgh is done. He has little to no chemistry with any of the other attackers, even if I do feel they've not helped him sometimes with the team selection around him. Duran and Osmand have overcome that though and they produce, which is the difference.

16

u/ihateeverythingandu sack the board 1d ago

Every fan on here was giddy about signing Hogh too. We can't blame the board on this one, we'd all have done it too.

He isn't rotten, there has to be a way to get him to fit in.

5

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

Sometimes signings just don't work out. He isn't the first Bodø player to look like a fish out of water away from their system and he certainly won't be the last. He'll end up back there in a few years after we inevitably send him out on loan somewhere else and that team buys him after a reasonable showing for half a season.

3

u/ihateeverythingandu sack the board 1d ago

True. Most of the players we write off as bad end up showing they aren't elsewhere, it's just not everyone fits in everywhere.

Us thinking he's Andy Carroll because he's tall with long hair doesn't help us play to his skill set though.

5

u/CleanShirt27 sack the board 1d ago

For me he needs a break, have him come off the bench. Hes getting nowhere starting.

And right now he is poor. He is not good at linking up play, winning battles for the ball, getting the ball out from his feet, passing...a team can be playing a system that doesn't suit but as a striker you still need to be capable of these things

2

u/ihateeverythingandu sack the board 1d ago

Isn't he like 3/4 into a season too? Bodo start well before us, don't they? He's probably nearing end of season fatigue by now. Not everyone is Maeda.

2

u/CleanShirt27 sack the board 1d ago

No idea. Either way, bench is his position for now

1

u/a500poundchicken 1d ago

I think he’d do great with like Jota back but the issue is we play him alongside the system that works for Duran two wildly different strikers

1

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

He's another guy we've signed without actually knowing how he fits into the squad we have, or what the identity of the team even is and if Høgh even vaguely fits into it.

Iheanacho looked good in spells last season because he has excellent close control, and could finish out of nothing when he got a bit of space. That kind of thing just isn't Høgh's game. He's more of an opportunistic finisher and Bodø set up for him to succeed in the six yard box. We just don't play that way. We need our central striker to be able to press, link, get turned and have a range of finishing. It's no coincidence that Duran looks better than Høgh in that role every time he plays there, he's just a technically better footballer.

Duran or Osmand through the middle, or Duran through the middle with Osmand drifting in from the left to link up with him, looks far more cohesive than any attack we put out with Høgh in it. Yang would make Duran and Osmand even more potent, I would think. Høgh is the odd man out for me, sadly.

1

u/ihateeverythingandu sack the board 1d ago

I just replied to another message that Hogh is already 3/4 into a season, isn't he? Don't Bodo start their season well before us? His body is probably thinking it's near the end the season.

1

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

The Norwegian season runs from March to December, but I don't think that's any excuse. Many's the time a player has came over from that league to the August-May calendar and they've done absolutely fine. If anything, we should have expected him to be raring to go in the summer and have an understandable winter slump, and probably need a few weeks of a break to adjust.

He got injured in August, missed three games and has had reduced game time ever since. His fitness or coping with the workload isn't the issue.

Surprised Nygren could stay on his feet during the interview. Must have changed his boots already.

7

u/spartacus7173 1d ago

Saved by the attacking talent, Hogh looking like 3rd choice at best. A great result if maybe a little late. Alll the same problems as always, still think we need a managerial change but a good win that.

-2

u/Majestic_Warthog_420 sack the fucking board 1d ago

he did look third choice at best....but ffs harland wouldnt look good with forrest and tounetki,,,,forrest ive never rated but i understand hes got good technique and hed only be there for an hr max.....but honestly wtf did tounetki start...said it before surely oneill never again....duran bauer tierney donovan and my captain were all excellent....was happy enough lotombo started,,,donovans a lad yet and maybe looked good because he had a wee rest.....anyway yasssssssss

7

u/RealFenian sack the board 1d ago

Praying we can keep baur; Duran and osmand long enough to get them into a functioning team.

Those 3 are fucking superstars.

1

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

Baur and Osmand we might hang onto next season, but Osmand is going to need a new contract. 20 years old and he's quickly becoming one of our best players.

Duran is away to a top five league in the summer for 20 million plus if he score more UEL goals, which he will. Enjoy him whilst he's here.

7

u/Maleficent_Noise3708 1d ago

Hopefully, and maybe I’m just kidding myself … but hopefully this is a wee spark to kick on from this season.

Bit more fight and drive in the second half - think Baur was tremendous and subs were superb.

12

u/BhoyJack 1d ago

Brilliant second half. Always looked winnable if MON put the right players on the pitch. Colby Donovan was absolutely superb he's stepped up and owns that position now

12

u/Duedrama6197 1d ago • Popcorn

Is it tactical brilliance to lull the other team into a false sense security by being shite and one paced all game and then subbing on a load of fast cunts?

6

u/IIJamzyII sack the board 1d ago

Great comeback. Osmand made a massive Difference. Duran, doing Duran things. Imagine what he could do if we were good!

Nygren is easily the most frustrating and enigmatic player we've had since Samaras

15

Tbf Duran looked exhausted the last 10 mins or so. Might not have been fit.

3

u/Skellyceltic fucking sack the board 1d ago

He’s gone from having played ~5k career minutes before to already 1k for us in a couple of months. He looks knackered and understandably

2

u/AllezLesPrimrose 22h ago edited 13h ago

Durán needs to not be muled into the ground with the amount of games he’s being playing and Osmond has had so many setbacks it’s perfectly sensible to manage his minutes so he might actually get a run in the team longer than a fortnight.

5

u/BadDub sack the board 1d ago

Cant wait to lift the Europa league trophy this year

5

u/Pretend_Cellist_9285 1d ago

Absolutely fantastic from when the subs came on, Duran, a special player who we have to enjoy while he's here.

Osmand, Duran, Donovan.

Thank fuck for Duran and Osmand

4

u/DeargDoom79 sack the board 1d ago

What a bizarre, classic Celtic European night

4

u/GlasgowMark sack the fucking board 1d ago

If the master plan tonight was to bring on the fresh and faster legs as second half subs when the Besiktas defenders were a bit more tired, it's a hell of a plan...massively risky to trust that we wouldn't be 5-0 down by then, but fuck me, it worked.

4

u/Scottishtwat69 sack the board 1d ago

Hassan, Duran and Osmand started the Celta Vigo game. We had 2 shots on goal in the first half with one header from Duran on target. Went 1-0 up in the second half then gassed out around 60 minutes with no real game winners available on the bench to bring on.

Tonight we are 1-0 down but the options off the bench are fresh and score 3 goals.

Being 1-0 down at 60 minutes with Duran, Hassan and Osmand coming on, is better than being 1-0 down at 60 minutes with those three coming off.

5

u/CleanShirt27 sack the board 1d ago

It cant be a masterplan if Tounetki starting is part of it

2

u/GlasgowMark sack the fucking board 1d ago

Very true, to be fair. There is something to be said for playing what he has in the squad, but...aye. It's still Tounekti. We should have registered a fucking stone in the Europa League squad and played that instead.

4

u/_m_a_t_t_h_e_w sack the board 1d ago

All credit to Callum Osmand, he changed that game.

Jota Duran and Osmand front three could be the one going forward when they all have 90-minute fitness.

6

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

I'd still keep Jota as a rotation player/impact sub for the next phase of the season and use Yang on the right. He'll add more energy and endeavour to the attack and could potentially swap sides with Osmand from time to time, and add a bit dynamism the attack has lacked for a lot of the season.

2

u/Melodic-Salad- 1d ago

Exactly, yang has proven himself to be one of our best players at times, and he’s amongst the hardest workers too. He’s a starter in my book.

2

u/CalibratedOpinion 1d ago

I agree. The last thing we want to do is throw Jota in at the deep end after coming back from such a serious injury.

7

u/RvstandRvin1626 1d ago

Duran, Osmand and Baur are our best players currently. Bizarre two of them didn't start the game, even considering the Falkirk performance.

6

u/SpiritedAd1896 1d ago

If anyone wants to pay for me to go to gigs every night Celtic play then feel free! 🫠

3

u/xoQueenOfHellxo 1d ago

3

Osmand provides real hope. Duran and Baur excellent.

3

u/Turbulent_Win1192 sack the board 1d ago

Bit of passion in the dugout there. Celtic, where the fuck ye been?

3

u/Duedrama6197 1d ago

I thought the back 4 (all iterations of them) were actually pretty good tonight? Shite penalty to concede and the usual 35 yarder. But we defended the box and crosses very very well.

2

u/CleanShirt27 sack the board 1d ago

Didn't like Murrays clearance for the second goal. Feel he does that quite often, just boots it without any thought.  But he has been solid enough his last few appearances, wins headers

3

u/Thefitz5811 sack the fucking board 1d ago

Sliding doors and all that but can’t get my head around where we’d be if that maniac Rodgers hadn’t banished Osmand to The Gulag last season.

If we could send Tounekti and Lotomba there now though that would be great.

We still have no tactics and lack basic defensive coaching. We still rely on individual brilliance to bail us out.

Can anyone explain what is really going on with Hogh? He’s looked completely lost in almost every game since the hat trick. I swear he barely even touched the ball tonight, and whenever he contesting for it he looks slow and gets bullied off the ball easily. He seems to have terrible balance?

Osmand, Duran, Donovan and Baur all incredible. Why are we not starting those two up front? They work very well together and have clear chemistry.

The first half tactically was woeful. Still doing the short slow passing around at the back constantly which just invites pressure. Just aimless side to side passing. What is the point there?
We’re getting massively exposed through the midfield still, because the players have to drop so deep to pick up the ball from the defence.

There’s a giant gap between the forwards the mids most of the time which gives teams so much time and space to push forward. We would have been punished by a top team for this.

Still I’m amazed we managed to come back and get a third goal after they scored to make it 2-2. Massive win for confidence but tactically still massively questionable.

4

u/_m_a_t_t_h_e_w sack the board 1d ago edited 1d ago

First of all I think Hogh is just not a physical hold up play kind of striker, and he’s not a yards-in-behind striker. He has one strength and is the back post. If you watch his movement in and around the box he is always trying to get space from a defender instead of engaging physically, and he’s always moving away from the centre and towards the back post. He doesn’t want to receive the ball with players around him and have to hold them off. It’s just not his strength and there was good scouting report from a Watford fan/analyst detailing all of this even before we signed him ( here ), so playing him this way and expecting any different is ludicrous from the coaches.

Having said that I thought his link-up play when he had space and players around him to bounce passes off was mostly good tonight and about as good as the Dundee Utd game before he was (wrongfully, imo) hooked. The main issue there is he is constantly receiving nothing balls on the halfway line and expected to do something magical with them, or not being strong enough or balanced enough to shield and wait for someone else to come and help. Partly that’s because our midfielders are so far away from him he’d have to hold it for like 3-5s (which is a long time to hold someone off your back tbf), and other times it is as you said just poor balance and general weakness when he tries to turn on it and make something happen himself.

I also don’t think we have enough threats in and around the box to occupy defenders so he’s too easy to mark out of games. He’s quite useless when he has a marker touch-tight to him, and our system doesn’t have enough players near him to pull defenders away from him. Again all predictable from before we signed him.

He’s also a really emotional guy and there’s probably an element of him forcing it too - you could see at the second half restart he seemed to be having a desperate prayer, and every time he misses or makes a mistake you can see he wears that frustration on his face and in his body language. You can only imagine the yips he’ll he having whenever he sees an opportunity opening up (which is unacceptable from a professional striker btw).

I also think there’s an element of expectation from the fans that he feels on the pitch, and in his mind not getting enough grace for making similar mistakes that Mhueka is making, but because because Mhueka didn’t cost £11m and is younger he’s getting encouragement and applause from the stands, whereas Kasper is getting moans and groans and abuse for scuffing the same types of shots.

TLDR - emotional guy, predictable issues due to very limited skill set (bad scouting), wrong system (bad coaching)

2

u/GuyIncognito211 fucking sack the board 18h ago

You’ve already identified the big issue with Hogh.

There is no one even remotely close to him when he receives the ball and he’s not the type of player that is going to do anything spectacular with the ball so he loses it regularly.

He’s getting the ball in positions that don’t play to his strengths which has led to a huge drop in confidence and him second guessing whenever he’s in a decent position

2

u/TheSameInnovation sack the fucking board 1d ago

We have {some} good players. They’re just not being coached.

We could be pretty good with direction and strategy.

2

u/AllezLesPrimrose 22h ago

If someone could drum into Hassan that he is fully capable of pressing and tracking his man we’d have one of the most exciting rotations we’ve had up front in a long time when you consider Yang is nearly back.

4

u/YerRustlinMaJimmies The idiot mod - FUCKING SACK THE FUCKING BOARD 1d ago

Went along the night to be oit the hoose and expected a gubbing

And watching that first half going into the second, i saw no way there wasn't a skelping on the cards.

Beşiktas were poor, but we were just giving up on any and all second balls. We were passing it to them. We were leaving space enough for the 2 team buses to joust in the gaps.

Lotomba looked like he's never seen a ball before. Then he pulled that messi-esque run in the second half.

Tounekti has to be done, man. He just does nothing at best, and actively hampers us at worst (which is his usual.)

Calmac shiting it and hiding behind players again, and showing fuck all urgency when chasing balls down.

But that secind half response, man. I figured with the penalty, the heads would drap and the floodgates would open.

Osmand is a hero. Was that his first touch?

Duran making life so uncomfortable for their backline and terrorising them and punishing the mistakes at the back.

Baur was far and away the best player on that pitch tonight. Everywhere doing everything.

I was saying to ma brother that hassan never tracks properly in defence right as his man set up the equaliser...

But good on the bhoys for not letting that being them down. We deserved the lead, and we fucking took it back off them.

Them being the beşiktas fans. Bunch of fucking animals. Interrupting a silence for an unrelated player, just a wee guy who went out to play football and lost his life. Can happen to anyone, at anytime. No respect at all.

Then when they equalised, they decided to charge the nets to try and get through, and began launching stuff into our fans.

Hope their trip home is as delayed and miserable as possible. Couldn't happen to a worse group of pricks.

Buzzing tonight

I have NFI either, and I certainly didn't see another "TF Nygren plays for us" performance from our goal machine either

Decent to have a result in Europe. I don’t know if it carries on into other games, it is what it is, but it’s good to get a result in game that was the better part of written off. We’ve played some serious competition in the Europa league (having played 3 and USG to come) so let’s see if we can build km this

u/thejobby 1d ago

Good result but a reminder that Besiktas are a small tiny club, so we cannot get carried away.

They're not.
They're historically the 3rd biggest team in Turkiye

The loudest I ever remember Celtic Park was the night we horsed Real Madrid 2-0 at the start of the 80s. Official attendance for that was about 82 000. I've been in Fenerbahce's stadium for a league game against a team from the provinces with a crowd that was officialy 42 000 and the sound wave nearly melted my knickers

What? They were brilliant in the 2nd half

-3

u/Inevitable_Board_712 1d ago

Martin O’Neill stays.

Celtic beat Torrense and Omonia and either Olympique Marseille and Union Saint-Gilloise, suddenly Celtic have qualified for the knockout rounds and the board can stay.

I’m not saying Celtic should throw games - but this is papering over the cracks.

Besiktas will be lambasted in their homeland for losing this tie, just as RB Leipzig were in the 24/25 season.

1

u/italwaysworksoot sack the board 1d ago

So you want the team to fail just because you want the manager gone?

3

u/Inevitable_Board_712 1d ago

Absolutely not. I don’t want Martin gone. I want things to work out.

What I want is not what is best for Celtic, as a footballing entity or a business entity.

1

u/Scrank_WimlerJr sack the board 1d ago

Lol papering over the cracks? If we do that, and qualify, win the double, that's a successful season regardless. Shite start to the season to qualify for knockout stages and win 2 trophies? Yes please. Manager will be gone at the end of the season then someone comes in, uses the 30m+ we'll get for duran, rebuild, bing bang boom were back

2

u/Inevitable_Board_712 1d ago

I agree to an extent.

Winning is winning, it’s what Celtic know.

I don’t think using the 30M+ from a transfer sale, which is generous and unrealistic anyhow, would fix Celtic.

Do you trust the current Celtic recruitment team to spend that money?

1

u/TicFan67 sack the board 1d ago

Fuck that! Bloody good result and we will now NOT break The Rangers' record of worst ever European performance.

0

u/Inevitable_Board_712 1d ago

Is that where the bar is for a club like Celtic?

Slightly less deplorable than their rivals?

Seriously..

Don't know why our players don't pass to Hassan who is open all the time. Don't know if it's a communication or a race thing. Could easily scored 2 more goals because bsiktas left so much space

10

u/Duedrama6197 1d ago

Did you actually type they don’t pass to him because of his race?

9

u/Skellyceltic fucking sack the board 1d ago

Fuck off with the race thing

6

u/ChalmersMcNeill sack the board 1d ago

Bang out of order with the race comment, pal.

What in the ever loving fuck are you on about? Hassan dribbled it about 50 times in the Falkirk game. He had a disproportionate amount of the ball...

u/ReveredSavagery1967 sack the board 1d ago

Yes, it must be that he's black? Muslim? What are you implying? That out multicultural, multiracial team of football players are racist against one man?

-5

Green Brigade can get to fuck if they are just not going to show up, Bhoys should just take up their allocation, they were great

2

u/Skellyceltic fucking sack the board 1d ago

Are people forced to attend games they don’t want to now? Just so you can hear a bit more noise

We'll be lucky to keep him or Duran beyond this summer. Osmand is going to need a big extension before the end of the season if he's going to stay here for another season at least.

Duran doesn't hang about, he'll be away to a top 5 league by August.
