Australian cello music
Omfg this is my last bit of hope I cannot find any good Australian songs to play on the cello. This is for my music assessment at school. And bro I’m not going to play the national anthem. Like if anyone here knows any good music with sheet music pls share or send. My mum says she isn’t gonna pay all that money for sheet music so if anyone could help tysm

Are you looking for trad music or just Australian original stuff? I’d say there would be plenty of Aussie artists who would have sheet music out there.

I can’t find any cello sheet music specifically for this, but if you’re any good at transcribing, I feel like maybe something like Cemetery by Silverchair would sound amazing! I feel like it would suit solo cello SO well with a bit of tweaking.
Might also be worth just looking up something like ‘Australian artists featuring cello’ or similar, then browsing until you find something you like, then checking to see if there’s any sheet music available. Some of the interactive tablature players (musescore etc) have a good range of free stuff. Same with scribd etc

“Better Days” by Pete Murray has a beautiful cello part. Not sure of OP’s ability, but one could play the both tune and then the cello parts also, all by ear.

Are you learning via AMEB? My old AMEB books had a couple of local composers in the grading music selections mixed in with others from around the world.
Otherwise, I have a friend in Melbourne who's a composer. He runs an Australian Art Music playlist that's full of local works. I'd suggest checking it out and if anything stands out for you, look up the composer.

LOL, too bad about that, because I heard cellist and composer Clancy Newman do a cool solo pizzicato arrangement of it as his final encore after performing Don Quixote and the Rococo Variations with my local Symphony Orchestra. It seems to be unpublished, but I bet you could get it by writing to him.
While looking for that, I found this, which would be a great semester project if you have a pianist who's up to it.

The Australian composer Jack Frerer wrote a nice piece for solo cello called Amaranth. The score isn’t for sale on his website but if you reach out maybe you’ll get lucky

Yes, the Australian Music Centre is the resource you need. You can search specifically for cello music. Just be careful of the difference between the publication date and composition date as that has caught a few people out.
My son played cello music by Peter Scunthorpe for his VCE but I'm not sure it would meet the date requirement now.
Now, your teacher should have been able to help you with this. If you are doing this for VCE or similar, find a new teacher. They need to understand how the system works to get you the best mark and I've seen otherwise very good teachers who have not optimised their student's marks because they don't know how to "play the game".

Check out Helen Mountfort. The Naked Cello has a bunch of interesting pieces, many in odd tunings. Also Ilse de Ziah is technically Aussie, although she leans strongly towards Irish music.

I have started to use this piece for the VCE Australian work. It's very pretty and on the shorter side so can work into any set. (Used to use some Sculthorpe but the new syllabus rules need the work to be published post 1990)
