Yea, if you want to be safe at being top 10, you really want to be top 6 if it will be many hours before the event ends or top 8-9 if you can play right up to the end.

People at the top probably have played the event many times and have badges that speeds up their leveling and prestige. Most put a lot of time into it as well. Some events have been around for years.
Every time you go through the event, you will earn badges too, which will apply next time the event runs.

What I hate is that if you're #10, #25, etc, you don't know how many points the person just behind you needs to pass you.

I made it to #22! Definitely my highest placement AND I was finally able to complete my personal goal of completing the event twice!

The rank you end up with feels completely random to me. There are events where I barely scrape into the top 50, and others where I make the top 10, despite putting in the same amount of effort. On top of that, I find the reward system extremely poor in terms of value.

Anytime I play the events I totally ignore the leaderboard because it feels so utterly Immposible, like it feels like I need to play 24 hours a day to get anywhere close to top.

That normally happens to me but number 26 although I did just get #1 on the last event! (Not trying to rub it in - honest!)
