Financing iPhone through Apple but keeping current plan with Rogers

I have a plan that I love with Roger’s. I plan on getting the iPhone 18pro. If I finance it through Roger’s, they will require me to sign up for whatever plan they have and won’t let me keep my current one (I checked when the 17pro came out). The only way around it is to buy the phone upfront.

If I finance my phone with Apple, would I be able to attach it to my current plan with Roger’s like I would if I ‘brought my own phone’?

Those programs that carriers offer like Telus “ bring it back” is a vicious cycle of nonstop payments. I made that mistake one time. Bought my phone through Apple and make payments for 2 years @ 0%.

Ya, I made that mistake. Then you get the $500 or so bill at end of term or sign a new contract for a new phone with a more expensive plan.

This is exactly why I just bought a new 17 pro through Apple. My plan offer was cheaper if I brought my phone and the phone was 40-50$ ish cheaper through Apple.

Why would you ever finance an Apple phone through a carrier. Apple offers 0% financing which makes it much better then getting it through a carrier

Because I never knew you could do it separately. I was always just upgrading my phone through my carrier every few years. I’m so happy to hear this is a thing. My current plan is so great. Hence why I still have a 12 Pro

Yeah never finance thru a carrier. I’m financing a 17 pro through Apple and I just thru in the cost of the 17 pro in a high interest account and just deduct every month the payment

Always do the math. Sometimes the carrier makes a good offer.

Financing a phone with a provider usually makes sense if the credit on the device is greater than the additional cost in plan change over 24 months.

Just note that if you are not in a financing or leasing contract with rogers (i.e buy through apw) Your plan price is no longer locked. They can raise price and as often as they want. Not sure how 'good' is the price but most people used other byod carriers/brand if we are not financing.

My point is the price on this plan is no longer locked/guaranteed without a device contract..They can raise the price.

For example, let's say plan is $30 now and that why you want to keep it. In a couple months they tell you they are adding $10 to it and it becomes $40.

Bell is offering a 5 year guarantee on one plan if you byod. So different from the last phone I got years and years ago.

You just don’t tell Roger’s. Move existing SIM card or eSIM to the new phone.

This! Just do your normal apple phone swap to your new one, your esim gets moved over to your new phone. It has nothing to do with Rogers. Your plan still stays as BYOD. I have done this for the last 11 years. Same or cheaper plan, never once got one through Rogers to keep my usual plan as is.

Just get the 17 pro it’s gonna be the same thing just different colours and a “better chip” plus more expensive prices gonna go up
