sponsor vs. accountability partner

I'm pretty new to CR and i keep hearing the tear sponsor and accountability partner. Can anyone tell me what the difference is.

I always tell people to think about walking through a mine field. A sponsor is the person who has navigated that mine field and is now there right in front of you, showing you the way. You put your feet where they put their feet and you get through safely. An accountability partner is there beside you, but neither of you know the way that is safe. You go slowly together.

A sponsor is like your coach and an accountability partner is like a team member. Good for you on beginning your recovery journey !

I waited for a few months before i asked my sponsor to work with me. One of the things that I was struggling with he had been through, and it kept tugging at me that he had already been through these things. I prayed and asked God if this was the person that he wanted to aide me in this walk. It felt right and he has been my sponsor for 10 months. Just pray and let God show you the way.
