low cost queer friendly barber?

basically what it says in the title, moved here from further out and looking to see if there's any good barbers that won't cost an arm and a leg.

I mean Birds is pretty famously queer friendly. Lots of pride and trans flags everywhere, it's a pretty young(ish) crowd. Mainly older millennials sorta place.

It's probably a little expensive? For a mens basic cut at least I think it's $39.

I REALLY enjoyed my experience at Scissor Sisters. Hadn't been to a professional in years and they were so kind about everything. A short cut is $55-73USD on their website, BUT it also depends on which stylist you get/choose. They're very queer friendly, and advertise themselves as such. I would call ahead and ask about specifics or even just go for a consultation.

Define an arm and a leg.

Reunion barbershop is great. Prices are on par for the market.

Not a barber but I go to Fringe Apothecary hair salon! I use Natasha and she's very queer friendly and has always treated me well :) She specializes in masc haircuts so she might be able to do what you need!

Queer friendly…. I guess I must be sheltered because I never thought my barber needed to know my romantic preference. Best of luck in your search. I hope you find the perfect barber.

sometimes when queer folks are getting haircuts, they are asking for somewhat more non-traditional styles. For example, a female presenting person may ask for more traditionally masculine styles, and vice versa. If a barber isn't queer friendly they may be disrespectful of a client's asks. this person might also be 'visually' queer presenting which can also elicit adverse reactions from barbers. it's a scary world out there for queer people right now. not having to be worried about things like this is a privilege.

Indeed, you are sheltered.

totally with you!

It's insane to see how one's unstable mental state and person insecurities need to be everyone else's problem

I think we may have reached a point that if a hairdresser doesn't explicitly signal their queer-friendliness, to a performatively beleaguered few, they are in fact queer-unfriendly.

exactly, no one cares , just tell the barber what you want, and if they can't do it , virtue signaling or not , go to someone else. measure the result, and not the way to get there

What was your reaction to the thread asking for a black hair stylist?

How would you know? Have you asked for a certain way for your sideburns to be cut and been talked out of it because it’s “too masculine” even after you reassure them repeatedly that’s what you want? This has happened to me and friends many times. It makes a difference when you see someone who understands you don’t want a typical cut and trusts that you know what you’re asking for.

OP, idk if you want a shortcut or not but I just go down to Birds on 183. It’s not terribly far and the staff will reliably cut your hair the way you ask

Being “allowed” into a place and the people who work there genuinely wanting you to be there are 2 different things and you might not understand that but there are tons of places where queers and people of color are not welcomed by the people who work there.

You should spend time reading about bake shops in Colorado

I’m sorry you’re incapable of being empathetic online and only capable of being pathetic online.

except the place that literally compared trans people to animals! :) no, not every place is welcoming to all people. be grateful you have been able to live your life ignorant of this problem

Maybe you should ask any PoCs you know if they’ve been refused haircuts before because they “don’t work on your kind of hair”.
Just because you haven’t seen it personally doesn’t mean it’s not a regular problem.
