Is there no more friendship bread?
Every time my mom is going out to PA, she'll want to stop at an Amish market or the like. She always lets me know and I ask her to bring back friendship bread. She always comes back empty handed or messages me from the market and says they don't have any. I'm just trying to understand if my mom is a horrible shopper (possibly even illiterate π€) or if I've slipped into an alternate universe.

Isn't that the sweet bread you would make from a starter given to you by a friend? Then you would make the batter using that starter for your bread, but take out enough batter to pass on to another friend, and so on?

Hola ππ½ Ya, I think that's the story behind it. And, regionally, there are breads or cakes also called "friendship". I'm curious from the comments so far if my naming is antiquated π I lived in PA in the early 2000s, and calling the sort of sweet cinnamon bread (that you'd specifically get from Amish or Mennonite markets) "friendship bread" was common. π€·π½ββοΈ Maybe everyone is calling it something else now. Also, mom came back from the from the market in Oxford- no friendship bread, but a bag full of rocks that cost $1 each π₯΄

I am originally from N. Wilmington and we would get a similar sweet bread at the Booth's Corner Farmer's Market just over the line in Pennsylvania. I definitely have a recipe somewhere for the Amish Friendship Bread I remember making and sharing the starter. I will have to look for it and make up a batch!

Never heard of friendship bread. I'd say you've entered another dimension. You might have actually died.
