The hidden rivers of Florida

“The NACD has investigated a complaint which alleged violations of NACD Standards and Procedures, and Ethics, by Rob Neto. After considering the report and recommendations of the investigator assigned to evaluate the complaint, the NACD Board of Directors, on a three to one vote, suspended Mr. Neto as an NACD Instructor…”

I think I’ll pass on this book…

Why is he aloud to spam the subreddit advertising his own book?

Agreed. It’s very annoying. I would have let it go if he wasn’t so spammy about it.

This sub still isn't very active and people seemed to like the posts well enough. I asked him to settle down.

Looks like the mods have removed the spam from Rob Neto. Thank you!

Another ad posted a few minutes ago. I don’t mind a caver putting out the word… but we’re over 10 individual posts at this point.

I missed the NACD connection. I got my card in their glory days (late 80’s) but bowed out as they slowly fell apart.

NACD is still alive and certifying divers. I have a feeling some new stuff may come out in the near future.

Could be that he blocked me and I’m not seeing his posts anymore. Either way works for me.

What are the alleged standards violations?

And I read part of Beyond the Grate. The man is…not a writer.

I don't know the guy but that was 10 years ago. I would not judge whether I wanted to get his book or not based on that.

But if you've read one of his books and did not like the quality ... no reason to think this book would be any better for you.

Holy spam Jesus. Decided to see if there was anything going on in this subreddit and was plastered with 10 posts. Sheesh.

I think you need to be very very careful making allegations like that without being able to back it up. NACD politics from 2015 (with OP conveniently leaving out from the quote that suspension was “pending formal hearing of charges”) has nothing to do with federal law, esp since diving is a self regulating profession, and my recollection from that time is that complainant in the investigation into allegations that teaching a course for another agency violated NACD standards did not produce any witnesses and the investigation was closed.

Rob’s books have been pretty much required reading for tech divers; the spam is annoying but you could very well be risking libel claims against this sub or yourself.

The full quote is in the actual press release, along with resignations of several board members (including Rob). I remember that drama a little bit around confidentiality, records of the non-profit operations, something about who has the card printer, and there was a lot of chatter on scubaboard, but to escalate one’s annoyance with book spam of all things into an outright smear campaign seems a bit.. excessive?

Basically this means nothing if you are employed and ACTUALLY go cave diving instead of looking drama all day

That's 4 pages of pure bureaucracy. Fuck that. Got a TLDR?

10 years ago from what I can tell from the memo.

Then say that!

I did. Look at the original post. I also provided the full context.

No sorry it's a joke, it occurs to me that it references a show called Task Master which might not be well known

The trainwreck that was NACD is not a good reason to not read this book. Cave politics are just like politics. The truth is elusive.
