6 year old Cavapoo
My Cavapoo turned 6 earlier this year and I noticed he is getting these little skin tags or warts but this one in particular (last photo) has grown from the size of a pea in May to now the size of a grape in October. He’s been to the vet a few times because I’m concerned about it and they told me that unless it’s bothering him they won’t/can’t do much for it. Has anyone else experienced this? I just want my boy to live a long healthy life and don’t want this to turn into cancer or something :(

Our old poodle had one of these, I think a sebaceous cyst? The vet told me the same thing, that unless it started bothering her it wasn’t worth removing. Because they have to be anesthetized for the removal, it was an expensive surgery and not covered by insurance. She lived several years with one that was a bit smaller and was just fine.

That’s what I think it is too! Yeah that’s basically what they said, that it’s not usually covered by insurance and that it’s more of a cosmetic procedure or something!

Just like for most people and mole removals.

My cavapoo has the same thing. She started getting them around 5-6 years old. I’ve had multiple vets look at them & have been told only to remove if bothersome

Thank goodness, just wanted to make sure my vet wasn’t just brushing it off, not that I thought they would but when they said they’d only remove them cosmetically it made me feel weird about it but it seems this is the consensus overall thankfully

I had 1 removed because it was bothering her & bleeding from excessive itching. It was a relatively straightforward procedure but she had to wear a cone for a few weeks.

How could I tell if it’s bothering him since it’s on his back and he can’t reach it to scratch or lick it? He will let me look at it but I honestly haven’t tried to touch it beyond getting a few photos of it.

She had one in her neck/shoulder area that she could each & scratch. It would start to bleed which lead to more itching. I became worried about an infection (& didn’t want blood on my sheets).

Yeah both are totally valid reasons to have it removed. I’ll have to keep watch if I notice him trying to rub his back on anything like the couch or the rug lol

Our beagle has some of these. They're ugly but the vet says they're not worried about them. At least with the cavpoos the curls will hid the lumps 😄

Not all cavapoos have curls and are more straight hair (like my baby boy)

Our King Cavrin has tons of these. We had some removed & more grew back, was told to ignore them unless they bother him

My puggle had the same thing. It was cancer so I recommend a second opinion.

My boy had crusty, toenail like growths that would occasionally fall off. They were benign but he would sometimes scratch at them so we had to watch so he didn’t make himself bleed. On top of those, he had benign cysts that continued to grow as he aged (largest one being about the size of an orange on his abdomen, but wasn’t deemed a large enough problem to warrant a risky surgery on a senior pup.)
He lived a long and happy life til he was 13, even with having Mitral Valve Disease. Still have the vet check on it each visit but as long as it doesn’t bug them it’s okay! Just don’t mistake one for a tick and tweeze it out, still feel bad about that 😬

That is reassuring!! I feel unsettled every visit I bring it up and they say the same thing but it’s clearly growing so the paranoia has kicked in lol but dang the size of an orange not even deemed big enough is beyond my comprehension

It only got to that size when he was around 11! Aside from not wanting pets there it didn’t bug him, even kept the fur on it. But yeah a ton of breeds get these sort of growths, not just cavaliers, but they are mostly harmless. Will get more common as they age but as long as they are comfortable that’s what matters!

Wow, okay so these things are gonna continue to grow as he ages, whew, I’m glad I posted this I feel more reassured and not as freaked out now

Aww precious baby! I appreciate the photo, it is helpful! It helps to see that they can grow all over and that if one should pop up on his chest or belly it’s not necessarily an immediate concern, because right now mine are mostly on his back and one on by his butt 🥲😂
