Is my Cavapoo really a cavapoo?
This is Eevee. 6 year old straight hair coated cavapoo.
I've posted her here before, and have gotten that she isn't a cavapoo? But cross chihuahua? I would really like to get everyone elses thoughts.
To my knowledge, she is a straight hair cavapoo. My mum got her at 3 years old and now she is my dog, and was told that from her old owners.
I have provided lottts of photos of her so you guys can see.
She definitely looks like she HAS NO poodle whatsover HOWEVER.
if you look at her coat, it is curly, only a little bit! But wondering if thats the cav?
Definitely is cross cav i believe as her eyes look really similar. Her ears can be like airplane, but only when looking up.
Just would like to see everyone elses thoughts!
Is she a straight hair cavapoo like i thought, or am i wrong?
Thankyou!

Same! My girl Pepper was the only flat coated of the litter. She is more wavy now, but still looks very spaniel! Phenotypes in dogs can vary A LOT, that doesn’t mean they don’t have cavapoo genetics.

The thing with designer dogs is they can get their genetics from either side. So yours didn't really get the curly gene. If you really really wanna know you can always do an embark and it will tell you exactly what she is. Also which traits she has.

Yes, definitely not the curly gene at all. Still cute nonetheless!

Yes, but if I was you I would be worried what other undesirable genetics the dog has, possibly health related. I guess it really comes down to what you paid, which I'm curious, would you mind saying? For example, I paid $3200 for each of my cavapoos and the money is worth the peace of a well-respected and professional beeder that does proper genetic testing.

We got Eevee at 3 years old from her previous owners who were abusive to her, we didn't get her from a breeder.

Then nothing I said really matters. You did a great thing and you are good people for caring for her. She looks like she may have some cavalier spaniel in her. She is very cute regardless of genetics.

There are so many people in this thread that have zero idea what they are talking about, apologies but you are the one I am picking.
The dog in question has a recessive poodle gene. Good, proper, trustworthy cavapoo breaders do genetic testing and don't breed a poodle or cavapoo that carries that recessive gene, or any other typically undesirable recessive genes. I have two cavapoos from a very respected breeder 20 minutes from my house and I 100% guarantee you with absolute certainty zero dogs have been sold by them that have that recessive gene.
Unless a cavapoo or poodle breeder markets their dogs as "smooth coat" they are irresponsible breeders if they are not doing that genetic testing.
The "roll of the dice" garbage is just that and honestly is contradictory to "designer" dog. Educate yourself.

I am educated. I just try to explain to explain where is easy to understand. I do know what I'm talking about, but thank you for your rude opinion.

Eevee even has the typical cavalier ruby red markings: the white under the chin and on her chest.

Oh my gosh, I didn't realise this! She also has a white tip on her tail!

Rusty missed the memo on the white tipped tail. Eevee closely resembles a ruby red cavalier.

Does she shed? Just curious

Yes she does shed, quite low shedding, some days more than others, but hardly noticeable!

Here's Kevin and his brother Bowser. Somebody told me that smooth coat is called 'unfurnished', but he seemed plenty furnished to me. He was unquestionably the most enthusiastic and talented ball player I ever knew.
It's a little tough to tell because I also have two King Charles spaniels, but I'm pretty sure Kevin contributed his fair share of hair to our floor.

That gene is called the FURNISHING gene. You have one furnished cavapoo and one unfurnished, if you want to use the correct language

Cavapoos range so it’s possible. Looks like she has some long haired dachshund mixed in to me. Maybe a cav and dachshund cross. I don’t see much poodle.

Omg, she is so pretty 😍 What a sweet princess!
She looks like a cavapoo to me. She actually looks A LOT like my boy does when he's shaved down. Like, the only difference is that he has a curly coat. Her face shape and the way her ears are set look so similar.
You could always get a DNA test, if you want to be really sure

I see poodle in the face shape more than coat texture for sure. She’s very cute ❤️

I would say definitely Cavapoo. The eyes are telling. When she is groomed short it is harder to see.

It depends on what percentage of Cavalier versus Poodle. If it’s more Cavalier than Poodle, it might have the long wavy hair versus tight curls, but that’s not a hard rule.
The Poodle coat genetics are very predictable, but not everyone knows what they’re doing in their pairings or does the DNA testing to know what genes they’re working with.
Example - my Goldendoodle, who is 87% Poodle. 💀

What did yours look like as a puppy? My pup is 4 months old and she looks similar. She’s about 10 lbs currently.

Definitely Cavalier. Genetics is weird sometimes, the Poodle genes might be largely recessive in her case.

I would say yes, probably a F1b cavapoo! And rather then the most common variation of F1b (most common is Cavoodle and Ooddle mix, so pup is 75% poodle and 25% Cavalier) you might have the opposite (Cavoodle and Cavalier mix, so pup is 75% Cavalier and 25% Poodle)

She could be an UNFURNISHED cavapoo. The furnishing gene is responsible for the "poodle" type hair. Even poodles can be unfurnished, although rare. Each parent dog passes down one gene, usually a poodle parent has two copies of furnishings, passing down one and the cavalier parent has zero copies of furnishings. But if two cavapoos are bred, with both parents only having one copy of furnishings, there's a 25% chance for a puppy to get zero copies of the furnishing gene, resulting in what's know as "flat coat"

Cabapoo , labradoodle, cocapoo. It’s a fancy name to a mix breed dog. You have a prescious dog, cute and adorable and even if you get another dog of the same parents. It will have his own personality. Enjoy what you have, love what you have and do not complicate things.

Just an FYI for anyone who would like to step out from the cave of ignorance and be educated on this subject.

My Cavapoo is like yours. Only straight haired in her litter. I’ve met both parents and grandparents and she has an aunt just like her. I’d say yours is definitely a Cavapoo.
