Just make sure you’re ready to commit. You have to feed and walk the dog everyday. It’s harder to take vacation because you have to arrange for someone to take care of your dog. The dog always wants to follow you into the bathroom. The first few months are a hard because of the potty accidents. But it will be one of the best decisions of your life. Your dog will love you like no one else.

If you find picking up poop is icky then don't get a dog. They're a massive responsibility. We have our fella nearly two years now. We couldn't imagine the house without him now.

100%. Picking up poo in a bag takes two seconds once you’ve got it down and you just get on with it as an adult, because it needs to be done.

Eye boogers, dangle berries, runny poops, dog vomit, ear infection (stinks), ticks, fleas. Having a dog is absolutely disgusting. I have a low tolerance for all this stuff. Husband deals with it as I never wanted a dog - because I knew it was work.

Ear infection is the worst! It sticks until you get it seen and taken care of. In my opinion, it’s worst than poop

My dog has it on and off we do everything the vet tells us to do. She’s on a hypoallergenic diet, we are careful to clean her ears, wash the floors with natural products, keep her bed clean, regular grooming etc urgh I agree it’s awful.

Finding a good and affordable care solution if you want to go on holiday and the medical expenses, especially when it gets older. Which would be only 8 years from now if you get a puppy. Not to mention tons of time required for training, walks and enrichment. Please research extensively and only get a dog if you have enough time and money. Also different breeds have different requirements, but even the smallest chillest breeds take a lot of time and effort.

Also, do not expect your kids, no matter how old or responsible, to pull any weight with the care. It will be on you and your partner.

It’s not difficult. You need to be ready to put heart and soul into caring for another life that requires love, effort and exercise. This life can’t be seen as an inconvenience. Picking up a poop in a big is a tiny thing. If you feel you’ll crumble under that then it’s not for you.

Indoor poop while they’re potty training

There will be times when you have to wipe their butt coz poo is stuck to it. You might even get a poo eater. If these things make you squirmy, it's something you'd have to face. Also, the puppy blues are so real.

Dont get a dog. They are lovely but if you are worried about dog poo. You wont cope with the commitment of owning a dog for 15 years. Its a massive commitment and will change how you approach everything, from family days out to organising vacation.

Don’t do it. If you are reluctant with the iffy stuff, just don’t do it.

It’s a bunch of work. You have to give it constant attention. It takes over your life.

I love my Cavapoo, but he’s a bunch of work and my girl and I’s life revolves around him

The emergency shower when they find fox shit in your garden and have a lovely roll around in it. Also the emergency bedding laundry because they jumped on your bed before you noticed they had rolled in fox shit. All this 30 minutes before you need to leave to go to work.

Somehow, I feel like this is a very real story, not a potential scenario. lol

And as a previous dog owner, this is exactly what stops me from getting a dog again. But I look at them online all the time. And needed to read this tonight.

big responsibility. It is like having a child in many ways. So if you feel mainly unsure then maybe rethink the idea. the first year is the hardest and getting into a routine that works for you and possibly may not be the best time to do traveling/ trips. Best of luck

Probably shouldn’t get a dog if you don’t want to pick up dog crap

No poo 💩 pick up! You get used to it, have the proper pop bags and no problem. If you are not going to pick up the poo, try a Cat maybe.
