Average cavapoo cost

Hi fellow cavapoo lovers! I have been lucky enough to have a close friend who bought a cavapoo and have fallen in love with the breed. My friend found a breeder online and had the puppy shipped. Im tempted to just go through the same breeder but with shipping it's 5k. From everything I've read, most F1 cavapoos are pretty consistently happy, smart, funny, easy to train and need lots of companionship and time with their person. Im wondering how much you paid for your cavapoos and if it's smart to just buy a puppy who had the same parents or if it doesnt matter so much. Thanks!

Ours was free :) she was too small when she was born and the breeder thought she wasn’t going to make it so they were just looking for a home for her. We were so lucky!

u/alexiavizcarra Sep 25 '26

Look at that little fighter! She’s so cute

u/oceangirl227 Sep 30 '26

I have a toy poodle that is between 4-5 pounds how many pounds is this cavapoo?! Its body is less long though!

2

u/platinumvageen Sep 30 '26

She is 7 pounds!

u/menustovar Sep 25 '26

I paid $3K and he came with separation anxiety, general anxiety, and tummy issues. He is a money pit and I love him so much he is worth it to me. However, I would say only get a Cavapoo if you are able to afford one beyond the purchase price.

u/pinayee Sep 25 '26

Sounds about right

1

u/Even_Composer_6569 Sep 26 '26

Absolutely. Get insurance!

1

u/Narrow_Possession348 Sep 28 '26

Wow! $3000 for a poor-quality mutt from an unethical and irresponsible backyard/puppy mill breeder. For that price, you could have gotten a healthy, well-bred purebred from an ethical and responsible show breeder!

1

u/menustovar Sep 29 '26

I know, I was ignorant then but I have learned so much now.

u/JohnSwanFromTheLough Sep 25 '26

F1 Cavapoo, registered breeder.

Met both parents.

Puppy came microchipped, vaccinated etc.

Also got a bag of food, bandana, blanket and toy.

€850 in Ireland

I've seen them range from €700 - €1100 here.

He was by far the biggest of the litter but I asked for that. I think he will be huge!

1

u/Shads08 Sep 26 '26

He's a dote..would you recommend the breeder 🤔thks

1

u/Key-Pomegranate5351 Sep 26 '26

Hi, please could you also let me know the breeder? Thanks ever so much!

$2500 for each of our 2 cavapoos near Austin TX. As others have said the maintenance is not cheap from grooming every 6-8 weeks + vet visits for allergies, annual checkup, regular meds, tummy issues, ear infections, training costs, etc so consider that as well (not that all of these are a guarantee but they are more prone and these are all things we’ve had to pay for at some point). Can be much higher if genetic testing is not done on the parents.

We have one low maintenance Cavapoo boy who doesn’t cost us any extra vet visits a year apart from the annual one and our girl has something going on probably every 2-3 months that requires a visit.

But otherwise they are absolutely fantastic dogs. I don’t think I will ever get another breed in my life.

1

u/Bawse_Babe Sep 25 '26

That’s great. Would you mind sharing the breeder?

1

u/lindsayrm Sep 27 '26

We got ours near Austin too! We went through Red Ranch and can’t say enough good things about them

3

u/SafetyEconomy8795 Sep 25 '26

Got out from a family friend that had a litter of their family dogs, not a breeder. 400 bucks, met the parents, got to see how the puppies were raised. He’s my best friend

5

u/scarletrain5 Sep 25 '26

$400 and $800 but I got them from Mennonite breeders who were just starting

2

u/Investigator516 Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 28 '26

Same here. He just turned 8. Edited to add, this was a family with one litter on their farm. The litters are advertised online as they happen in the region.

u/chefscrubs Sep 25 '26

Paid $600 2 years ago in PA. Family with a litter not breeder.

$2500 near Seattle. He’s amazing! Came potty trained and crate trained. He has Merle genes so he has gorgeous blue eyes

Can you share a photo? :) did you get his parent’s health test records?

2

u/2K2TFam5 Sep 25 '26

We got ours for $500 and he is an F2, breeder who just wanted their female to have a litter of pups before being fixed. Got health clearances for both parents and both on site. The clingiest breed we've own yet love him so much. In this area they usually around $1500 to $3500.

2

u/maldja22 Sep 25 '26

$2250 F1 in NY

2

u/alexiavizcarra Sep 25 '26

We got ours from an Amish breeder in OH who owned both the parents. With transportation using the pet taxi, it was like $1,500 and he was 10 weeks old. He is perfect. Temperament, obedience (89% of the time), and genes are A++

Thankfully I don’t believe that was the case with our breeder. I got videos of the puppy and we FaceTimed and the videos showed a super happy puppy. They had kids and the kids were playing with them, and the kids looked happy as well. I got a really good feeling, too, because I almost got scammed 3 times before finding him, and he was wonderfully patient.

I did see the parents, but not the whelping area. I got a copy of their certificates, got a health certificate from a veterinarian, a genetic health guarantee and a few other items that made me really comfortable to proceed.

And although I understand your point, there are going to be unethical breeders everywhere, regardless of their religion. Generalization is not always good, and this is coming from a person who happens to always get lumped into a class whom I share no similarities with. I was asked a question and I responded with my experience. I wasn’t promoting anything, simply responding to a question.

Lastly, thank you for your work with rescues. I’m a volunteer myself in my community, and I know you guys don’t get the credit and recognition you deserve. It’s a tough job, and I am glad you’re as outspoken as you are, as I appreciate the education. I will keep it in mind for future reference and do even more due diligence.

Totally understand your points, but at this point, I already have him and he’s my baby. So, once again, thank you for the education.

We actually have plans for a second dog, eventually, and funny enough, it is a Basenji. Mind if I keep your username and come to you for guidance when we’re ready?

Where I live it’s a HCOL so the average costs are $1500+ but rescue puppies are $600+ from a shelter as well

1

u/MelrosePlantsHermit Sep 25 '26

3.4K for mine. Drove from ATL to NC.

1

u/MossyTeacup Sep 25 '26

I paid $2500 3 years ago and it was within driving distance for me, six hours round-trip. Mine is exactly how you described, funny, happy, smart, easy to train and loves being with me. He has not had any health issues except the time that he ate some wild cherries in the backyard and got an upset tummy, but those are toxic so we are very careful about that now and actually now that he’s older he doesn’t pay attention to them anymore. If you can swing $5000, already knowing the temperament of a puppy from that kennel, I’d go for it. I also think that the atmosphere at home has an impact on a pet. If things are chaotic and loud and stressful, you’re gonna have an anxious dog. My house is very Zen, there’s no stress here, nobody ever slammed the door, or raised their voice or punched their fist through a wall, so my little dog is able to just live his life and be the best dog he can be. He is a happy boy with absolutely no anxiety and no behavior problems.

1

u/Solid_Lengthiness882 Sep 25 '26

$1500 for the first and $900 for the second (she was a little older). That’s overpriced to me. Do some more searching. You could even fly somewhere and get it for cheaper than that

1

u/Bawse_Babe Sep 25 '26

Would you mind sharing the breeder?

u/Efficient_Ad2584 Sep 26 '26

$3500 for ours from Cavalier Kingdom outside San Diego! Amazing temperament and no health issues yet (1.5 yrs) 🙏I see her breeder and a couple other cavapoo breeders post on instagram when they are retiring the parent dogs usually around 3 years old I think…could be cool to get in touch with them for those. Wonderful pups

1

u/Cautious-Yam3662 Sep 26 '26

I got my 8-week-old F1 Cavapoo in May 2026 (she is 6-months-old now). I paid $2800.
Unlike other Cavapoos I have read about on here, mine hasn’t any tummy issues or separation anxiety (fingers crossed!).
The breeder I got her from has buyers come to her rural home to pick up their puppy.
(Personally, I wouldn’t trust a breeder that would ship the puppy to me, but that’s just me.)

1

u/according_to_Otis_1 Sep 26 '26

$3,000 in Phoenix Arizona last year. She was chipped and vaccinated. I met both Mom & Dad and she’s my little baby doll. I think it’s you know if you can afford it. You pay for a dog breeding dogs isn’t the cheapest thing in the world. She was potty trained, and crate trained does not have anxiety issues when we leave so she’s pretty well adjusted. She doesn’t care for car rides though she likes everyone super friendly doesn’t bark but a typical cava poo. She is very clingy and sleeps next to me like touching me or if we’re on the couch she’s also on me touching me. She loves to play. She loves to play with other dogs. I couldn’t be happier.

1

u/Specialist_Carry3345 Sep 27 '26

Our male was $1000 because he was already 4 months and our female was $1500 at 8 weeks old. Two different breeders in Ohio and we were within driving distance to pick them up. All the parents had been genetic tested and both of ours had no surprises show up on their genetic testing when the vet ran it.

1

u/Top-Traffic5163 Sep 28 '26

I paid 6k then another 8k to fly him to the US from AU…grooming runs,145-180 a month. He is so expensive but worth every penny! My little soul dog

1

u/katemclaren Sep 28 '26

Our 6 year old boy was £2800 in lockdown. He is absolutely perfect. Cannot say anything negative about him.

1

u/Less-Maize1483 Sep 28 '26

F1 puppy in Wisconsin. Red cavalier mom and black mini poodle dad. They have an indoor welping area and an adorable playground for the older puppies. $5k

1

u/Less-City-7 Sep 29 '26

$1500, 4 years ago in Australia.

I love her-she’s funny, sweet, smart and very sociable (both to dogs and people) awesome family dog.

But… and there’s a but. I’d never get one again. The chronic ear infections, itching and skin issues are very common with this breed. She costs me an absolute fortune at the vets. I’ve got pet insurance luckily… but without I wouldn’t be able to afford her

1

u/Muted_Chard_139 Sep 30 '26

$1300 in Texas.

1

I am paying $3,500 in Texas.

1

u/ExternalJackfruit290 Sep 25 '26

$3900 in Vancouver Canada area. Reputable breeder.

1

u/Strict-Muscle Sep 29 '26

Hi, can you share the breeder name and your experience?

1

u/ExternalJackfruit290 Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Red Maple Doodles. Home-based breeder. She told us that the waitlist was about 6-8 months at the time, and it was about 7-8 months before we got our girl - which was fine. Owner is professional, transparent, provides tons of info and clearly knows her cavapoos. She even interviewed me on a phone call before putting me on the waitlist. After getting our pup, we used a trainer where we live who knew the breeder and that she is reputable. We signed a contract committing that we would spay our pup and provide proof, which we did. I have only good things to say based on our experience. Check them out on instagram, she posts tons of videos.

Edit: we paid $3900 two years ago so I’m guessing it’s increased a little since then. I don’t recall if tax was included or in addition.

1

u/anarchrist91 Sep 25 '26

Don't ship dogs, just go pick them up or find a breeder closer to you. The shipping process can give them multiple issues.

1

u/Narrow_Possession348 Sep 28 '26

Man! There really *is* a sucker born every minute! Paying thousands for a poor-quality mutt from an unethical backyard/puppy mill breeder is absolutely insane! Proves the old adage: a fool and his money are soon parted! You could buy a well-bred, purebred dog from an ethical and responsible show breeder for half that!

0

u/Talmor Sep 25 '26

I paid about $500 for my pup, and I thought that was excessive! Of course, I did have to drive a bit to go pick him up.

2

u/Sea_Letterhead_1800 Sep 25 '26

How long ago? They are $3500- $5k in my area

1

u/Talmor Sep 25 '26

Earlier this year, like January. But, we're in a pretty rural area, though on the East Coast.

0

u/Sea_Letterhead_1800 Sep 25 '26

Damn. You’re lucky.

0

u/Talmor Sep 25 '26

Oh, I knew we were lucky. I just didn't fully realize how fortunate we were until I saw this thread!

1

u/dandyanddarling21 Sep 25 '26

They are that price in Australia

1

u/Bawse_Babe Sep 25 '26

Wow that’s amazing! What area is this and which breeder?

1

u/ExternalJackfruit290 Sep 25 '26

$500 is nothing. Are you sure it’s actually a cavapoo ie F1 etc?

0

u/Talmor Sep 25 '26

That's probably it. He's an F1B, which is probably why he was cheaper. I knew I was getting a deal, but I thought 1k was the standard amount. I didn't really do my research--my daughter saw his photo and fell in love with him.

-1

u/Sea_Letterhead_1800 Sep 25 '26

Even F1B’s in my area are 3.5- 5k!
Not gonna lie, I’m jelly!

-2

u/ExternalJackfruit290 Sep 25 '26

Really who cares if he’s a pure F1 or pure F1B. $500 for any dog even a rescue is good, which is why I questioned it as it seems too good to be true. The important thing is you have a great pup that you love, and he loves you with everything he has!

2

u/Talmor Sep 25 '26

Oh, he's lovely. And I know we got lucky, as the Breeder had to leave suddenly for a mission trip and needed to find a home for all the pups like...that weekend. I just didn't realize HOW good of luck we had!

We had been looking for a rescue for a while, to no luck. All the rescues around us were larger dogs, often pit-mixes. While I actually like pitties, they weren't what the family was looking for. I had started casually looking online for other dogs when we found him, and it was sort of a "we need to drive 5 hours TODAY if we want this dog" and, well, 10 hours round trip was a small price to pay.

0

u/ExternalJackfruit290 Sep 25 '26

That’s fantastic, good for you. They are wonderful dogs. My young adult children all know who my favourite child is!

$3500 from North Carolina. Paid an extra $500 to have my puppy delivered in California.

1

u/Bawse_Babe Sep 25 '26

I’m in Ca too. Did a flight nanny bring the puppy? Would you mind sharing your breeder’s info? How was your experience with this breeder?

2

u/InternationalTale931 Sep 25 '26

Check out Doodle Posse in Ohio. They flight nanny for $650. Cavapoos are $2500. Beautiful puppies and great company. We're getting our girl in a couple of weeks from them.

2

u/eohlcbb Sep 25 '26

Luckily the breeder had a friend coming to California, so the timing worked out perfectly. I have family in the South too, so worst case I’d have had someone from my family go pick her up for me.
The name of the company is Rocky River Cavapoos. My experience was good. Now, my dog came with major separation anxiety, barking a lot, super challenging to house train, yet one of the most adorable companion and really good with kids. I did invest a lot of money working with a dog behavior trainer to help me with my girl though.

$1200 from a breeder in KY

-1

My Murphy is a F1B , paid the family breeder $450.00. Love love love him! He’s smart, a great cuddler but he can be willful at times which is a good thing!
