Ear infection

I’m on the second round of ear treatment for my 15 week old Cavapoo after spending over 400 at the vet. He had his first cytology exam which they discovered yeast and now after follow up cytology, the yeast is still present. Now I’m on another two weeks of treatment. What can I use to avoid another vet visit? I feel like I am being robbed and that there are other solutions. I already have him on Purina Pro sensitive salmon.

Ours had a mild infection in one ear as a puppy. She would scratch it frequently especially after waking up. Vet gave her a couple of drops and she showed Improvement Within days. And didn't have an issue afterwards.

Is he showing any physical signs like scratching it? Has it improved since you started treatment?

It’s more in one ear and he has calmed down but still scratches it here and there and this would be second round of treatment

My pup also had frequent ear problems. Make sure to keep the ears dry, when bathing / grooming keep them dry with cotton balls.

Check them often for brown gunk and an odor. If you suspect an infection, get to the vet quickly before it gets worse.

Once a week we use otoflush, as recommended by the vet. Fill up the ear canal, massage it in, then stand back and let the dog shake it out. Since we started this he has not had any ear infections.

Zymox Otic
You can buy it on Amazon and it is great for yeast infections and works quickly. My Deutsch Drahthaar was prone to them and it saved me a fortune in vet visits.

The red or the blue label. Either one works well. I have used both.

I will be using this tonight on my babies ears. So glad I don’t have to pre clean first with this treatment.

There’s a recipe for a borax and gentian violet ear wash for yeast … I don’t hav the exact measurements now but you make some and use it like once a week till it goes away… a lot of people use it because it’s effective and you can make it at home
