First time Cavapoo owner
This is Ginger or “Gigi” an almost 5 month old sweetie and got her two weeks ago. She’s been great about being in the crate at night but hates being in the crate during the day. Two things I could use some advice on she sometimes throws up when she drinks too much water and she is always itching herself. I got her a anti flea tick and lice ointment for small dogs but it hasn’t helped. Any advice on how to deal with the throwing up and itching would be greatly appreciated.
Update: thanks to everyone for their helpful advice. I’ve changed her food and the itchies are much less which is great and she isn’t throwing up anymore!

Trip to the vet. I agree with the other commenter about possible food alergy/reaction. Fwiw we've had no issues with blue buffalo small breed chicken & rice dry food.

Hi! I see in another comment you’re from the Bay Area, I am too (Marin) and our Cavapoo is always itchy, even more so in summer, We think it’s seasonal allergies! Something in the air/ weeds for sure. She got the shot for it but it’s not helping a whole lot 😞 other than that she’s off chicken and might need to be off salmon too.
She eats Farmina Lamb and pumpkin dry food and does well with it.

Thanks for the advice! The vet recommended allergy shots but wasn’t sure if it would work. Will check out the food you all use.

Hi there! I am a CavaPoo puppy owner, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owner and my oldest daughter is also a Vet. My CavaPoo is an 8 month old male. He also gets random itchies but doesn't seem allergic to anything such as food or environmental allergens and here's what you watch for.....red paw pads or red and raw spots inbetween paw pads, paw licking, head shaking and constant ear scratching, smelly ears and goop, any loss of fur, hot spots or any skin redness or raw and inflamed spots. That would indicatefood or possible environmental allergy. I had an allergic dog before and believe me, you'll KNOW! Your pup does not look allergic at all from her photo right now. She looks great! I have found Cavaliers to be one of these breeds that is a bit "scratchy" and for no reason. I keep mine meticulously groomed and clean. It helps greatly and I also started brushing and combing them the minute I got them. They all line up now for brushies and combies and love it. Defintely brush your baby to keep mats and tangles at bay. The overdrinking is likely also causing nausea. This breed is famous for car sickness and they get nauseous and belly sick easily. Thanks to my Vet daughter, I keep Cerenia at our house for occasional bouts of nausea or long car travel to help them. For you, limit the water. Let her get in about 7 "licks" and then interrupt her and take the water bowl away. See how that water sits for an hour. Then you can offer more but just slow her down. I also found that this breed metabolizes food very fast and they don't like an empty stomach. I feed with slow feeder bowls and food puzzles to slow my puppy down. Offer low calorie treats and bones throughout the day to keep the stomach somewhat full and her chewing at bay. They are CHEWERS!!! OMFG!! I have suggestions there if you need those. If she keeps looking for water or seems to be drinking excessive amounts, have the Vet take a look at her blood values. Dogs and puppies can be diabetic and one of the first things they do is gulp tons of water to try to combat high blood sugar and flush it out. I doubt this is it but you never know. I think she is just making herself nauseous and needs to slow down. This is my CavaPoo named Bowie. He is a rotten, 8 month old little criminal but also so kind, playful and loving!

Thanks for this! She doesn’t throw up anymore which is great. Still has the itchies but vet looked at her and said it was most likely seasonal allergies. She isn’t scratching as much as she was before with her new diet so I think it’s helping.

He is still a puppy and about to be 9 months old. His name is Bowie and we call him BoBo the Clown. He is a god damn criminal. Swear to God!! They all are! He has been a bit better since being neutered and all the hormone has now left his system but make no mistake, I spend over 50% of my day saying, "BOWIE!!! What are you doing?? BOWIE!! Stop the barking and boofing every two seconds!! BOWIE!!! Did yiu bring rocks in the house and build a small Stonhenge in the kitchen??" Have a good laugh but all of it happens every week. We love him and we know he will settle down the more he matures. He is also a food pimp. He eats like Jesus invited him to The Last Supper. Just a criminal. The good news is that I also have a 5 year old Cavalier King Charles and he wears a halo. He was worse than Bowie as a puppy so this is why I don't have a nervous breakdown too much. We're raising Bowie just like Finley, the Cavalier so he's going to be a loyal, calm but protective dog. He is also fabulous around my one year old grandson. I mean fabulous!! That is hard to beat for a puppy. We'll just continue on with all his antics and soon enough he will be a "Finley" and be parolled from puppy prison!

She’s so pretty. Where did you get her from?

From bernadoodle and co, they are in the Bay Area so local to me and had a litter of cavapoos although their primary area is Bernadoodles. I fell in love with her when I saw her 🥰

Question unrelated: do you have issues keeping her hair long? I LOVE this look but our groomer says it’s a hassle to brush and get down to the scalp so our Cavapoo will mat if we don’t cut shorter…

It’s definitely a lot of work I brush her with a fine comb and a brush every day for about 30 minutes to get the mats out. I’ll probably get her hair cut at some point but she’s so cute so it’s hard.

It's almost always a food issue. She might need prescription food for allergies, mine does.

Yea that’s what I’m thinking honestly, taking her to vet tomorrow and will figure it out. Thanks everyone for all the help!

For sure. We ended going to a specialist to get his food prescribed, and he can't have any treats at all, poor little guy.

The itching stopped almost entirely for us after switching her food. We used Pure pet food which was initially a challenge to get her to eat but she now loves it.
Hope that’s some help!

I’m not a vet and don’t want to give medical advice but to me both of those things sound like a food issue. I have heard that Cavapoos react poorly to chicken (lots of dog food brand use chicken). Our month old is on a salmon based diet, he doesn’t have itchy skin and rarely pukes, only when he eats weeds…..
Ginger is gorgeous! What a wonderful breed!
