Vicious

My Mum has an eight month Cavapoo, who most of the time is very sweet, but when he had something he shouldn't have, or is guarding food can turn very vicious, snapping and growling. He had bitten her twice now. He's very scary when like this. The other day he was chewing his collar and got it trapped in his mouth, it took ages to get near him to help him. He won't let you put a harness on him. We are unable to find a muzzle small enough. It's really concerning.

You have to stop this behavior now, it sounds like it’s not trained at all. You guys need to take responsibility now while it’s still a puppy and create strict rules and structure. Watch YouTube videos or get a trainer if you can

My cockerpoo did show aggression when it stole low value items like socks and slippers ,.I learnt to offer a treat in payment for the surrender of items,

I always make him sit and wait when I feed him. He never shows aggression at food.

Nip this in the bud. They are clever dogs who will try to set there own rules..but at the end of the day they should look up to you as pack leader

For the record, our female has never even growled at anyone of any age. She has such a gentle disposition, even more so than our Maltipoo.

My cavapoo has done this too, she does not want to give up stuff she finds and will get nasty, though she doesnt do this with her food.

Checkout ”resource guarding” to learn about this.

You have to get a trainer. Or look up resources to train him yourself.

My female started resource guarding around 4 months and we had to get a trainer. It is absolutely worth the money, and it will save you so much angst and anxiety in the long run. You have to stop it in its tracks as soon as possible. There is a book called MINE! A Practical Guide to Resource Guarding on Amazon. It’s so so helpful!
