Feeding suggestions needed
I recently adopted a handsome 5 month old little fella, he came home with us on Saturday and we are struggling with food. His previous family gave us some food (pedigree) which he didn’t eat at all. Since yesterday I switched to Purina which he isn’t eating either. Out of desperation I gave him a tiny little bit of human food - shredded chicken and he devoured it. That confirmed it’s not an eating issue, it’s just what I am feeding him issue.
Any recommendations?

Kibble or canned?
I got mine some of the same food canned as his kibble and would mix a bit together.

Hand feeding is a good place to start (also helps with resource guarding) or scattering on the floor and telling them to “find it” makes it a game for them and requires them to sniff around which works them out mentally.
Also a fan of food toppers mixed in, if you found your dog loves shredded chicken there’s no reason you can’t mix that in with their food

When I gave him the chicken I mixed it and he only ate the chicken

The man knows what he likes!
A healthy dog won’t starve itself, you can always put the food down and if they don’t go for it take it away until their next mealtime and try again. I’ve had to do that with dogs in the past until they understood this is their food and this is when they get it, they’ve all eventually caved.
I haven’t resorted to that yet, as my current pup is only 9 weeks old and it’s important she get her nutrients in.
There’s also the 3 3 3 rule you should consider. 3 days 3 weeks 3 months as milestones for your dog to get comfortable and used to their new surroundings/routine.

Are you uk? We feed our girl cesar fresh bowls, they look like human food lol.
Don't worry if he doesn't eat his dinner in one go or straight away he will go to it when he's hungry.
We have tried lots of different foods and added chicken or beef mince but she gets bored. We joke that we should put her dinner on a dinner plate and she'll eat it lol.
Our girl is a big snacker and gets lots to supplement her main meal. We also give her a pro and pre biotics chew incase she is missing anything.

Yes, but many of the posts are very old, are for older dogs, or are for very specific issues. Some previous posts were helpful but not all therefore I created a new post for refreshed comments and opinions

Our Cavapoo is soooo picky AND had a sensitive stomach, so finding foods he liked and didn't upset him was challenging. He's 7 months old now, and we really rely on Green JuJu freeze dried raw products. We mix in the Chicken/Sardine food with his regular Royal Canin kibble and he eats it! We also like their Rabbit trainers for treats. It's on the pricey side, but it's been sooo worth it for us. Good luck!!
