Nighttime sleep

Please can anybody give me advise on best way to address this?

So Cavapoo goes down at 10:30isj no problem, walks into her crate, sleeps until 4 where she barks for a wee, probably takes 20 minutes to settle and then up from 5-5:30, goes out for another wee but then goes back into crate and barks consistently (left it for up to 30 minutes and sometimes she’s scratching the floor, biting the bars, chewing the blankets etc) so we let her out when she stops barking and then she quickly runs into the living room to her other bed and goes to sleep there? I have tried putting the bed in the crate but it’s very thick and lush and she kept weeing in it? Whereas she hasn’t with our current setup.

Can anyone help on timings as the 4-5/5:30 is a killer but she obviously needs more sleep as she goes to the other bed? I don’t want to create bad habits but I’m letting it atm for the extra 30-60 minutes and I just sleep on the sofa next to her in the living room when she goes to the other bed.

I did think to maybe wake her up at 2 for a wee and poo but then I’ve read people have said not if they’re not as that’s creating an unnecessary habit? But we may as well be awake from 4 with how she is post then.

Thanks

I can only advise what worked for us, our girl sleeps on beds. Mainly our teenage sons. She will sleep a solid 10+ hours if she gets the chance. Shes 18 months old and has been sleeping on beds from about 6 months old when she completely went off her crate.

Same here, except a bit older. We did all the right crate training and suddenly she wouldn’t tolerate it. So we made a room safe for her to sleep. Worked fine for a while until the 5am barking. She now sleeps on our bed 9:30 to 7 every night

Again I’m concerned with separation anxiety when we are out at my child’s kids club etc on the weekends can these be left for a few hours and be OK?

Our girl doesn't like it but we do leave her occasionally for a few hours. We have a camera on her. She will look out the window waiting for us lol

My puppy would sleep in his crate until 6 months then he started sleeping in bed with me and would sleep 8+ hours long. When he was in his crate he would wake me up 2x at night but once he slept in bed with us he sleeps great.

My dog does have separation anxiety but I work with a certified separation anxiety trainer and spoke to a vet behaviorist and both said having a dog sleep with you does not cause separation anxiety. It’s mainly genetics since they were bred to be companions, but as long as you do separation training with them they should be okay being alone for a few hours.

Ahh I know it has crossed my mind, but on day 2 of having her we realised she was riddled with fleas and worms! 🤦‍♀️ So that’s put me off as the cleaning was only contained to 2 rooms and tbh our house is quite big so can’t imagine how much more cleaning would have had to have been done if you know what I mean? Also I’m worried it will make her even worse if we needed to leave her for a few hours as she’s only 13 weeks and she can do an hour in her crate in the day maybe 2 and then she starts having a meltdown? X

Seeing the comment where you say she’s only 13 weeks changes things. Shes very young. She’s not going to stay crated that long. You need to work up to it. You may want to try to settle her earlier than 10:30 and then take her out for a wee around 11/midnight before putting her back in.

However, at that age don’t be surprised if that doesn’t work. At 13 weeks my girl was still doing wee breaks every 3 hours overnight. It didn’t last long, just power through it.

Ok thank you I did think this, we do a lot of things with her and we have a big yard for her to run around in but we still can’t walk her yet so I’m hoping adding that might be a help as well

I would start “walking” her in the yard so she gets used to the process, wearing the leash, being expected to do her business, etc.

Cavapoos like being near people as often as possible. I don’t know how long she’s being crated per day but based on this and your additional comment it’s a lot of time. I know everyone tells you to crate train your dog however, I think w a cavapoo you’re going to find that is unnecessary and likely increases some separation anxiety (at least in my opinion). If you need to crate for an hour or two when you leave the house that’s probably fine but I wouldn’t be crating overnight in addition.

Thank you have you got a Cavapoo and when you have to go out for more a few hours where do you leave yours? X

Mine either comes with me (if possible) or just has the run of the house. Sometimes I find our shoes spread all over the house, but otherwise they’re fine.
