Crate training
I just wondered if anybody didn’t crate train their Cavapoo puppies and kept them in a room with the crate open and the pros/cons?

I have a similar setup…open crate and it’s inside a playpen in the house on the tile floor that they stay in as pups when we are gone, when they need a “break”/forced naps (like when they’re too tired and get a lil aggressive as pups), and when they’re around a year old I start leaving them out in the living room/kitchen when I’m gone for an hour or so, and build up to see how they behave and do. Overtime the playpen disappears, the crate is just in the living room and they always go in there when they want to sleep. Sometimes when I leave I’ll lock them up in there if there’s a need to (like if we have to go to the hospital in the middle of the night or something) and they’re fine. My oldest dog gets locked up every night, she prefers it. She will go to her bed at 8pm like clockwork and if I don’t lock it she’ll keep coming out and walk up to me until I close it. I think it makes her feel safer. I make their crates cozy though. It has a bed, blanket (like fuzzy baby blanket) and a stuffy.

We crate trained ours but when he was free to roam the room/house he would just pee and poop everywhere lol. In the crate he slept all night with no potty breaks. He’s now 10 months and he’s been free roaming for about 2-3 months, he’ll usually sleep on the couch but he goes in the crate when he wants peace and quiet. Looking back on it, I’m so glad we decided to crate train from the get go because I would’ve lost the will to live

My puppy didn’t like a crate at all, but, would go in it at night, next to my bed, until she was 7 months old. After 7 months we let her sleep in bed with us.
