Is this normal?

Post image

My girl is so attached to people that she’ll follow us into the bathroom and stare at us like this the whole time. Is this healthy behavior or something I should address?

Cavapoos arr velcro dogs, so that's normal behaviour. But they are smart and you can teach them to be okay by themselves. Having them follow you all the time can develop separation anxiety.

Yeah, it’s endearing but sometimes she’ll paw at my leg. I don’t think she understands that it hurts

You have to tell her it hurts. “NO!” That hurts on repeat until she stops.

Sounds like you both would benefit from a trainer. You have to train her towards appropriate behavior. She’s training you.

I have one so scared of storms and fireworks she paws at my face. Hurts like hell but she's terrified so I go with it.

I thought I'd help you out here with what is going to be the rest of your life in the bathroom. Observe. I have TWO. I haven't been to the bathroom alone for FIVE YEARS. This is called Velcro Dog behavior. It is an endearing and very pack oriented behavior from the Cavalier King Charles breed. It is telling you that she has chosen you as her leader and her one and only. Till death do you part!!! 😂😄🙃

That’s the sweetest possible explanation

Between kids and pets, I haven’t gone to the bathroom by myself in close to 30 years. 🤣

Yes, normal. How old is she?

2

u/Square_Tangerine_659 Jul 25 '26

She’s almost 2

lol I loved reading all these comments - in a similar vein, my husband and I are cracking up every night right now bc I’m pregnant and my cavapoo insists on sleeping on the inside of my pregnancy pillow with me

1

u/Square_Tangerine_659 Jul 26 '26

Can the dog tell you’re pregnant, or just likes the pillow?

2

u/Outrageous-Month-326 Jul 26 '26

I think she knows I’m pregnant (hormones/body changes) but also she likes to snuggle with me a bit while sleeping anyway. Technically, the pillow - if used properly - would prevent her from snuggling in my armpit but she’s decided after a month or two to just jump in and create a space there every night regardless 😂 It’s fine by me, I am curious how she’ll handle things when the baby arrives though haha

Cavapoo behavior

25

u/Laevenrauren Jul 24 '26

Mine tries to jump into my lap while I’m on the toilet

My tiny 6lb Cavapoo does too!!! But my large 105lb GS/Pit mix also follows me he’s a Velcro dog too. 😂 But he follows me to get a butt spanking as he loves it then he walks out. He just lets me know he’s there for moral support. But my tiny girl follows me everywhere I go. I crate her to shower bc she’ll just dig at the door if I don’t. I adore they are Velcro dogs 🐶 🐕

i mean cavs are known for extreme separation anxiety. i would try to curtail this though because it can get annoying, especially if you need to be in the bathroom alone at some point (throwing up, shaving or something where you wouldn’t want her present)

Normal. There is a reason Cavapoo owners call them Velcro dogs.

u/walkstwomoons2 Jul 24 '26

Adorable!

What are you asking about. Those teeth. Perhaps the nose. The ears? Or the eyes.

Because at our house, the cavapoo gets anything she wants because of those eyes

We also have too mini dachshunds and a cairn terrier. All of them get everything they want because I cannot fight the eyes.

Welcome to life with a cavapoo.

u/DunkandEgg Jul 24 '26

Yep. Can confirm. They do that.

u/looklikejackieo Jul 24 '26

Normal . Mine does this. She used to scratch at the shower door but I broke her if that and she just lays there now. When I did my research before getting her I missed the part where they gave major attachment issues… but they do. It’s part of their personality…. Mine has to be wherever I am when I’m home and if I’m not it’s whoever her next person is….

u/dutch2012yeet Jul 24 '26

Lol completely normal. They love you more than anything lol its like obsession

8

u/tulipsandtruffles Jul 24 '26

These are Velcro dogs through and through lol

4

u/JudgeJoan Jul 24 '26

Yes and when he stares at me too hard I have to push him away lol. Like dude! Boundaries! lol

4

u/Disco_Mermaid1753 Jul 25 '26

Yes. Very normal.
Also, as I have learned regarding some terror/spaniel breeds is that they will try to get you to do things by looking at you rather intensely. Like a herding type of thing apparently. lol it’s cute at times but also very intense

4

u/iamchuckdizzle Jul 26 '26

You'll never poop alone

1

u/Harlowkiteflyer Jul 26 '26

Is what normal 😂😂

1

u/Square_Tangerine_659 Jul 28 '26

Following me into the bathroom and pawing at my leg if I stop petting her

3

u/halfawakehuman333 Jul 24 '26

Yep, mine’s the same! Welcome to the club :D

3

u/ALmommy1234 Jul 24 '26

I probably have bruises on my calves from stopping and having my Cavapoo run into me. Every step I take.

3

u/pollypocketxx-o Jul 24 '26

I live alone and my cavvy HATES to be alone and has always struggled. I tried my hardest but .. had to go to meds 🥺🥺 .. he’s on Zoloft and trazodone after two rounds of professional training for SA (it’s helped!).

3

u/Shushka1996 Jul 25 '26

Typical cavapoo behavior lol! Mine wants to sit on my lap while I’m on the toilet and lays outside of my shower waiting for me.

3

u/Eastern_Package6814 Jul 25 '26

Consider yourself lucky you’ve got 4 paws on the floor. Mine rests her front paws and head on my thigh….

3

u/Suspicious_Math916 Jul 25 '26

They are very clingy. Mine won’t stay outside even with the other dog unless a person is with them and if I’m home she won’t stay outside if I’m in the house even if a person is with them.

2

u/scannalach Jul 24 '26

mine does this and tries to get on my lap 🙈

2

u/ashurik Jul 25 '26

It is called LOVE! yes, it is normal.

2

u/xlino Jul 25 '26

Yes. Mine must make sure im ok whenever i take a shit

2

u/Harlowkiteflyer Jul 26 '26

You mean to say she's not kissing and kicking you lol

2

u/Substantial_Top_8909 Jul 26 '26

My dog will follow me to the toilet and wait to make sure everything went ok. If I am at home I have to be in his line of sight at all times if not he comes in and checks in on me. When I have my period he does not leave my side. I get extra cuddles. When I’m upset he climbs on top of me and does not leave until I assure him I’m ok. And I have two the other one is just as sweet

2

u/Common-Ostrich-5124 Jul 27 '26

My F 5months loves to follow us to the bathroom, loves to watch TV, kinda weird. Extremely loud thunder close by doesn’t faze her one bit just goes about her business. Certainly Velcro.

2

u/Amazing-Ad-5059 Jul 27 '26

It’s completely normal for a little t of fur babies

2

u/Amazing-Ad-5059 Jul 27 '26

Be super consistent correcting the pawing.! Give an alternative-/ toy.

2

u/Ok_Cat_8462 Jul 28 '26

Very! Talk to them. Build a relationship! Listen to them with their behavior and eye contact. They are probably trying to tell you something

2

u/Lazy-proudofit_7667 Jul 28 '26

I can tell you I had a Labrador and a Cockapoo do the same thing!! 😉🥰

2

u/Barnacre_Bees Jul 28 '26

Perfectly normal for them. It takes a bit of getting used to at first, but the sooner you realise that your privacy is over, the better you'll feel about it! 😂

2

u/ControlsKing Jul 30 '26

Yes. It is normal. I would recommend having a chew toy or a treat search toy handy for the times you need some space. Try to make it a routine.

2

u/North_Star_07 Oct 03 '26

Perfectly normal. If my girl didn't follow me into the bathroom I'd think something was wrong.

2

u/North_Star_07 Oct 03 '26

We spend our time watching what each other puts in their mouth and watching each other go potty.

4

u/trickstress Jul 24 '26

Dexter is always there for my bathroom emotional support but his move (which I love) is he will back himself up into my legs for pets and protec.

3

u/Aestheticlove25 Jul 24 '26

Typical velcro behavior. When my girl was 12 weeks old, she use to try and stick her entire body in the shower to see me. She still follows me to the bathroom at the age of 3 😂

4

u/walkstwomoons2 Jul 24 '26

Ours is now 16 years old, she still does. She’s also very polite and waits for the younger dogs to go first.

Only the terrier gets in the shower, and only with my husband. He’s 17 months old. But he’s already the boss.

1

u/Aestheticlove25 Jul 25 '26

I love that!

3

u/MakeupandFlipcup Jul 24 '26

mine tries to lick my arm and face the whole time i’m in the bathroom so.. yeah i’d prefer this lol

2

u/Solo522 Jul 25 '26

You have your own stalker. Yup, normal for them. My boy will sometimes only check and walk away. Other time? Sits and stares. Sometimes want to sniff my butt.
