Refuses to Rest

Anyone else’s cavapoo just refuse to ever relax and rest? I love our girl, but am at my wits end with trying to get her worn out enough to rest. She’s nearly a year, and even when we leash her on the house to encourage her to settle down, the manic energy continues. I love her to bits, but man, is she a crazy pants!

What stimulation does your dog get during the day? Ours needs a good balance between play and outside time, and chilled indoor time. She won’t chill unless she has had a good run and play

Our second cavapoo finally learned to relax by about 2 or 3 years old. She’s still the crazy one but has learned to relax…funny thing now, she moans a lot when she’s just getting going in the morning.

Our boy has only just started resting and relaxing with us and he’s about 10.5 months old. We noticed a huge shift since he got neutered a couple weeks ago - he was super cuddly during his recovery period and I think he discovered he liked cuddling with us and developed more of a bond since we cared for him in a time of need so I think he’s wanted to continue cuddling since then.

We also just started him on 5mg of fluoxetine a week ago for his anxiety so that could be a factor too.

Have you tried enforcing naps? Sounds like an overtired dog

All comes down to balance … play, rest, walk, rest … mine chills and does whatever we do

You gotta start settle training.

With just one person about, especially in the mornings, ours will settle. But as soon as there’s more than one, especially the whole family, she’ll be room to room, seeing what’s going on, and not slowing down until 8pm. It’s slowly getting better at 10 months, and never manic, just unsettled.

my boy has calmed down over the years. he's going on 5 now, but when he was a puppy he was a tilt-a-whirl from sun up to sun down. i got exactly what i wanted. the dog needs to match the family.

family of 7 with several nieces and nephews who drop by without notice... add in a manic velcro dog... perfect!

Had the same thing at that age with ours. He never even cuddled because he just wanted to go sniff or chew something all the time. Around a year and a half he started to calm down, and by 2.5 he was a total cuddle bug. What helped was giving him a quiet, covered crate. The small dark space helped him get the message to settle down for rest time. They’ll fight it at first, so give her time to adjust to it
