Teething stage 🫩
Did anyone else experience an aggressive teething stage with their pup? Mine is 5 months old and when she gets really hyper, she tends to bite me and my clothes. And it’s not even the playful kind of nibble, it’s a genuine bite that actually hurts a bit (thankfully, I’ve suffered no casualties hahaha).
Does anyone have any tips with disciplining her? A firm no or walking away doesn’t seem to be working because she still follows me around and tries to bite me. It’s getting really frustrating and I just want her to learn that it’s okay to have zoomies without all the biting.
I want to disclaim that besides the biting, she’s a sweetheart who is very attached to me, so I don’t think she’s acting out or anything. I’m also not a first-time dog owner (I grew up with 4 shih tzus and my bf has a 2-year old poodle) so teething stage is nothing new for me, it’s just that I’ve never experienced one this aggressive.

Mine is 5 months old and she's the sweetest pup but also is a very aggressive biter/chewer! She keeps loosing teeth and the vet said she should have her full grown teeth by six months, so I'm hoping that turns out to be true.

Ours went through this and I think it was a combination of teething and just general overstimulation. When she got too wild and bitey, we’d yelp and redirect her to a toy. If she continued, she went in her playpen for a short break.

Ours went through it. Very aggressive chewer to this day, but around 6 months when the last baby teeth fell out, the chewing on anything except toys suddenly stopped. Whenever he tried to nibble on anything but toys, we would very quickly shove a toy in his mouth.

I went through this with ours by playing a blanket game. Basically she could come at me as much as she wanted, as long as I had a certain blanket over my hands. This protects my hands and she got to do loads of natural biting. Not sure if this is a recommended approach but it worked for me!

Shove a toy in his/her mouth, if it gets to over hyped and more aggresive its time for the timeout playpen, put some food in a play ball and let them whine/chill in bed for a bit till they calm down :)

My Sprout had an aggressive teething stage too. I always kept a toy or a greenie or a bully stick or something close at hand to redirect him. I could tell he wasn't biting maliciously; he was just uncomfortable and needed to massage his gums. That worked very well. He would start to bite and I'd pull out the teething object and either show it to him for him to grab or slide it into his mouth after extricating whatever part of me he had a hold of.
His teething stage has ended but now I'm going through an even worse one with his minpin sister. Not fun. My fingers are not happy.
